Your van is the neatest & tidiest works van I've ever seen.
Keep the videos coming. Really like the clean neat work that you do. Wish other electrician did that kind of clean work. Keep up the great work.
What a pleasure to see units/junction boxes etc labelled up, the time it saves when fault finding !!
Good team work, very informative made is so easy to understand for new electrician....Thank you.
I'm an industrial electronics engineering student. My studies don't have much to do with your videos, but I'm learning a shit ton about practical electrical work from watching them. Thanks a lot mate, I truly enjoy your channel.
Cheers from Madrid :)
This guy produces better tv than the BBC, I could watch these vids all day. Keep up the good work Thomas.👍🏻
Blimey, what a nice comment! Cheers pal! Wish I had the time to make enough vids so you could watch them all day ;-)
Big Clive sent me, and I'm glad he did. Great show lads!
Great job on that fuse board! Watching these videos is better than therapy :)
Really enjoyed this video you guys are entertaining to watch. Keep it up!
Nice to see you care so much about cable layout, sweet fuse box
What a huge difference the clean-up makes!
Really great job guys!
I'm choosing my gcses options and you are one of two people who have inspired me to choose my options that equate to being a sparky.
That sandwich wasn’t nice, it was satisfactory.
evilution lmfao
The Emergency light stuff near the consumer unit, it is a battery powered or mains powered?
How good to see English electricians on UA-cam who talk about things we understand.
Just want to say ,i am proud of people like you which taking there job proudly
And i am not a Electrition but a handyman for nearly 15 years!!!
I have knowledge of wiring but bever had a chance to advance it
Shame
But will try to finish my electric course soon
But again well done and proud of you
12:52 Was that a glitch in the matrix?
Amazing. I noticed that too lol
Yep that glitch in The Matrix still going to this day
Now that's worthy of art in my eyes that fuse bored nice double take of the entry systam tom
U both worked your guts out on that job
Always enjoy watching you guys , another great video!
Great vid guys. Always good to see how other sparks do it. Keep em coming
This is the first video of yours I've ever seen and I can't believe that's an acceptable state for a wiring panel to be in. No wonder you're pulling it out. Electrical work looks very different than what I'm used to seeing in America.
The fact Americans seem to loathe any form of regulation and have a lot of very old buildings of their own makes me doubt that every building in your country has tip-top wiring.
Sitting here revising for my C&G2391 and adding"No other SOB in the building on a banker's holiday" to my revision notes on safe iso' so that's a PASS sorted. Besides, once I'm out in the wild any BH is a no-traffic day and I'll have another one where the hotels are cheap. Good on yer Tom(s).
Hey mate ! Absolutely love your channel ! I’m a electrician from Australia. Almost out of my time as a apprentice. Keep up with you YT as its great !
Very neat rewiring of the power board. 😃👌👏👏👏
It was a pig to do, but looked ok i thought.
6:25 "I've gotta change out a few luminaires today...." LOL!
I'm a new subscriber from Big Clive's site. Thanks to you both for a look at critical infrastructure installation and repair.
Ignore the haters, great job Tom. The jargon police will always be there - jealousy of success. As a maturer guy coming into the industry over the last year or so your videos have been invaluable. So please keep up the good work!
The wall behind the boards looks like it’s only held up by your new ply! Very tidy job nice!
Its seeing set ups like this which make me glad to be an in-house electrician for a commercial company. Scary :o
Great video, thanks Thomas
Tom and Dave you are both doing a great job. I live across the pond and I'm breaking into the electrical business as a retirement job. I've found the videos informative even though I'm having a little trouble understanding your terminology and humor. I have found that you have too many "Arm Chair Quarterbacks" in your viewing audience, remember if your not part of the solution your part of the problem "Fellow Sparks". It is easy to throw stones when your sitting in the stands. We also have a problem with the younger generation not wanting to work in the "Trades". Some of the major things that causes them to shy away from it is the "Old Crotchety Bastards" (master electricians that are in debt to all there ex-wives and can't retire), the hard work and little pay. I will part by saying keep up the good work Tom I look forward to the next videos when the "Third seat" will be filled.
Nice work on the consumer unit
I had to work my Bank Holiday too, but I always think it is nice to work a bank holiday and take it off another weekend when the Motorways are nice and clear, and the beaches are less crowded. Take off a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday break if you can, to make up for losing your bank hols. What a nice neat install.
Nice video mate! I'm currently doing my second year at college (City & Guilds level 2) and watching videos like this are great for knowledge etc! Keep it up!
nice finish too. well done Tom and DAVE
Good Work Matey, safe isolation quote cracked me up lol
Thought the technical terms for an eicr were either "it's alright" or "it's f***ed". Who'd of thought ive been doing it wrong and It was ment to be satisfactory or unsatisfactory all this time.
Then there's the "completely and utterly f***ing f***ed"
Mate, it should be: it's alright or change it because you might die.
Good job guys! Cheers
As a distance learning prospective electrician I have no idea how I’ll ever learn to deal with stuff like this. I couldn’t have managed to plaster without my apprenticeship!
Your humour is so amusing
Fair play fellas . Nice job
Great video! Keep on rolling!!
Nice job lads!
Very neat fuse board top job
Here from Big Clive. Very interesting. Nice to have a recommendation to a channel
Thanks for heading over. enjoy the show !
Quality install lads!
What a man. God to see some younger sparks doing a decent job.
We're they your temp site lights by the dis board
That’s it mint for another 50 years 👍
I know you haven't done the snagging yet and will probably do it anyway but I always whack a bit of mastic or painters caulk around the top of the trunking it just finishes it off nicely. Great work keep em coming 👍🏻
Really good videos, keep them coming, i enjoy seeing them, I can relate in a couple of stuff, I'm from Nicaragua and I live in United States (Florida) and some requirements are likely the same some others are different, from your side of the world, but we can all agree on one thing, it's an amazing and beautiful trade to get in to, my tools are Milwaukee as well, my brother got me into them and now I just fell in love with them, let's face it, when you're on your own and you need to finish the job, those are the right tools for it. Greetings Tom.
Sorry if this is an excessively basic question, but from where is the power turned off if you want to work on a fuseboard/consumer unit? is it just that isolation switch in front of you or is it done by the energy provider somewhere down the line?
Thats a propper job, old messed up distribution boards replacing is challanging but verry rewarding.
Hey I'm a new viewer from Australia, love the content. I run my own electrical company in Aus and its real interesting seeing how similar our systems are!
As a canuck, this is all completely backwards!
Lovely job
Go dam it! you're the best sparks in London Town !! "this time next year rodders, your be a millionaire!! " ha Love the work.. Thanks i seem to have an addiction to your channel more than netflix now ..
Just you d your channel.
Fellow sparky, nice original idea.
It's a good chance to show people what we actually do an it's all I interesting.
Fair play
Purely amazing!
As an American electrician, its interesting to see how you guys do your panels.
I am an electrician in Ireland, moved here from the UK, most of the old dis boards that I replace have the old DPZ ceramic bottle fuses fitted, (most have been wound with wire), no rcd protection, lots of borrowed neutrals, some have been in for 40+ years. All on a TN system.
Dont worry about flickering so much its not that biggy as long content is great. Keep doing what you doing yours work is top notes😎 Have a great day for You and Tom😛
Its bank holiday monday thats safe isolation lol so friday is even safer isolation cause no one wants to do much and shoot off early so im pretty confident no one will want to come and turn a circuit on
12:50 Intercom system was so good they fitted it twice.
He's taking the piss. Lately there have been comments about repeating sentences.
Glitch in the matrix.
9:18 Big Clive did and interesting tear down of one of their shower units. Interesting robust piece of engineering.
Lovely work on that consumer unit. 👍
Just subscribed.
Would you happen to know why you use multistranded wires as opposed to singlestranded ones?
As far as i know, here in Iceland we only use multistranded for cables that don't go from fuseboxes to outlets/other internal wirings.
Because multi-strand wires are easier to work with and it makes sense.
Over here in New Zealand, we use wires in switchboards that look like welder cables, they have 215+ fine strands for the distribution parts of the board.
I did my time with the older solid conductors at socket-outlets (2.5mm2) and the 1.5mm2 at lighting circuits, stranded is definitely better by a long stretch.
I know your work is good but daaaaamn, that fuseboard cupboard came out cleaner than Jesus's conception 👍
aye, impressive work :)
This comment wins.
I like the inside of your van
Great work tom. What a mess who ever did all that work b4 u mate.. task inahalf
Great video! Shame not to see a bit more of the fuseboard area being turned around but we understand. Keep it up fellas 👍
Very darti work
Nice job on the Fuse Box, client will be pleased, noted the building has a Apollo Xpander Wireless Fire Alarm System....
How was the other end of the SWA incomer connected at the other end? I can't think where i'd gland the other end off into.
Enjoyed your video. Live in the US. Worked on UK laboratory equipment. It was a challenge to go from the British electrical code to the NEC (National Electrical Code, USA). At least the field engineers who did the install and repairs spoke English.
Only a few working days and we were operational.
The German engineers who installed equipment in a nearby building did not speak English. It took them 6 months to do the install. Why I was not contacted to use my fractured German (humor) I'll never know. Oh, well, no logic to it, all personalities and politics. Thanks. Good luck.
Well done chaps not much making good after you for sparks only a shit load of pointing 😁 keep up the good work loving the channel
Which model of sds drill do you use ? Does it cope with engineering bricks?
Can we presume that the scrap wiring is a perk of the job to take and weigh in?. Or is it included in the pricing?.
It gets fucked in the bin
As my old tradesman used to say, “lamps glow, bulbs grow”. In fairness though he was an arse.
Instablaster
Safe isolation - bank holiday monday. Love it
love theses rewires
If all else fails, you can often get rid of the LED flicker by setting your shutter speed twice your frame rate. I used to have a mare with the flicker, but that sorted it immediately.
what is your opinion on using trunking as i have people say they don't like it because it looks ugly. if that is the case and the walls are solid brick, is there another alternative that is not as ascetically unfavorable?
Hi, you have added a note to state that the EM sign is the wrong one. It isn't so please don't change it. That arrow has a couple of meanings, one is "Progress up from here" and "Progress through and on from here" so the latter meaning is applicable for this so as above it is actually the correct sign for this location. The only meaning of the sign down arrow is "Progress down from here" and is the most misused/incorrectly used sign. Your average corridor as well should have the arrow up sign as well to progress through and on from here but nearly always it's the wrong pointing down one. Keep up the good work, love the high standard and general attention to detail, Its refreshing to see.
Noted you called the dno or supplier out to move the cut out and meters etc... whats your view on pulling fuses in general? Nearly all of us have had visits from the seal fairy to magically remove one... I know some who wont even entertain the thought and call the dno to pull it for them.. guess its a judgement call, if its old and stuck leave well alone, but a modern henley with no load is unlikely to cause issues
There`s really not an issue in cutting the seal on the bullet. Look at all the `decent homes` social housing upgrades, DNO simply could`nt support the thousands of board changes which have taken place over the past decade or more. Cut the seal, pull the bullet, leave the meter sealed, install new 25mm tails, cut the load side of the meter tails, and terminate into a Henly block. Take a picture of your masterpiece, and notify the DNO, tell them the fuseboard had melted and it was a midnight call out! Obviously if there`s a real issue with the state of the main intake, leave well alone and report. Scary thing is you are probably more qualified as an engineer than the ` smart meter` installers, and while I agree we all need to make a living, there have already been some serious blunders on both Gas and Electric meter changes. Wouldn`t it have been nice if they had agreed to build an isolation switch into smart metering, supposed to be intelligent people!
Got2Bgaga very well put. We all know what goes on. As we agreed on its ajudgement call. Putting an isolator in the meter is far to much like common sense. You can get meters with a switch built in but guess it was a cost thing! As for some of the meter installers ... less said the better. I can see the time when one emds up in court for manslaughter
You can actually get away with cutting the seals by stating that the board was in a dangerous condition and required isolation. can't quite remember off the top of me head where it is in the regs.
Why dont sparks do the meter installation in the U.K. ? Since part p the electricians have been going down hill, we basically had people doing a two day course installation of domestic electrics, nic/ eic etc dont care, they get more money in, so they profit, sparks in the uk are Muppets, yeah yeah, I am trained and educated there amongst other countries, but yeah born and raised, just makes me ANGRY, we got stuffed,
gavin john-hyde I have no qualms with pulling fuses or come to that replacing tails, there’s a few times with new meters that there’s half a turn left on the dno terminals in the meter! As far as I’m concerned a consumer should be able to disconnect from the system and I’m confident that with 30 years experience I’m able to do it safely and leave it in a better state than some of the clowns who are fitting these things.
Hiya great video how do you know which cable is which after you've disconected them? Also a LAMP is the device into which s BULB goes
that is spooky , i am watching this bank holiday monday 1 year later . wow .
and now 2 years also spooky
Absolutely pissing myself to the Bank Holiday safe isolation, loving the videos keep it up
Hey tom love watching the channel. I’m a sparky down in Sussex, and I really would like to know why you don’t fit RCBO consumer units. Cheers Sam
The other good thing about Triton stuff is they make "like for like" stuff that uses all the same connections years later. I change a lot of their showers and it makes life so much easier.
Nice job.
Do you have any tips on how to remember which wires go where and how to keep your wiring neat for an aspiring electrician?
As Tom said in the video, take your time, it's not a race, things get fucked up when people rush things, wires get put in the wrong terminals, wrong circuits get put in the wrong breakers.
Neatness is in no way accidental, it is about having a measured approach to what you are doing.
And if it's not a bank holiday Monday just pull the cut out fuse 👌
great vid again tom and dave, im a 3rd year apprentice and was just wondering if you would be able to do a video on testing for the new and future apprentices.
what tests we do, why we do them and maximum readings allowed such as Ze is 0.35ohms for a tncs system
Read the Regulations, if you can....
I found your video quite satisfactory 😂👏
How many hours did you quote for sorting that mess
That first FCU hidden in the boxed-in section....how do you change the fuse when it's all clad?
They said they'd be putting a door on the boxed-in section so you could get in there and read the water meter, probably use the same door to get at the FCU.
top sparks, that was an amazing job you done …. poshest sounding sparks too
3:40 "You just have to try to go slowly and as methodical as you can"
[takes out massive cutters and puts it around a bundle]
The arrow for the emergency exit is correct?
Yes, it's correct..
www.stocksigns.co.uk/understanding-fire-signage/
I would not worry about replacing the consumer unit, I would be sorting out the rotting, wet, unsupported wall behind it first.
Nice work as usual :) Cable management was pornographic!
For a fuse board up grade, the mains fed what is the requirement if you have to break the seal
Nice work
Tom can u do a video on the basic tools an apprentice will need , i have a ruff idea what to get but i want a professional's opinion, keep up the videos really helpful and inspiring
For the first year, all you'll need is a sharp knife for un-boxing things.
A good broom and a nice dust-pan and brush set :D
The power companies should do it the same way as they do here in Germany:
Electricians here are permitted, if they're registered and certified by the local network operator, to remove the seal and remove fuses for themself. They're also permitted to replace the seal after they've finished their work. Meaning here you must have additional tools and safety equipment, because in the service entrance box you'll find three 63A NH-fuses in most cases.
And that bullshit speech is exactly the same here. That's not a "Glühbirne" (literally "lighting pear"), that's a "Lampe" (lamp) or "Leuchtmittel" (illuminant). Or if you say Erde (earth) here, some are literally exploding...You can find earth in a garden pot, it's named "PE" (protective earth)!!
Exactly so isses :)
no im an electrician i lived in Germany also and Germanys electricas comes no where near as safe as uk electrics
