First the NBA changed the rules to correct offensive flopping. Then James got older and his lack of work ethic and physical discipline to condition and protect his body finally caught up to him. It's been a perfect storm of events that have caused his rapid decline.
He is washed. He's a step slower. His playmaking skills are fine, but his shooting efficiency is so bad & I think he's shooting less because of that, in hopes of not worsening his FG%, he doesn't want to make it look any worse. He's shooting his worst FG% since his rookie year. He's still getting a good amount of freethrows, I believe he was 3rd in attempts per game just behind Giannis & Embiid, so I don't buy this "he's not getting anymore calls" narrative. I think this is a result of lack of dedication, just think about it, the past two teams he's been on, it's rumored that he's been called out by Westbrook while on the Rockets & KD while on the Nets. If I remember correctly, Westbrook said he was always late to practice, & would take vacations in-between games just to go party. KD was upset when he showed up to training camp out of shape. If you want to win, you have to be dedicated. This puts Philly in a tough spot, because they have to pay him. Lol
The problem with this teams is that if a player qualify for a max , then they think they are obliged to give em that money. Then 1 or 2 years later they want to trade em for salary dump. I feel there are no negotiation in this meetings with agents.
Another factor: James Harden's best years came in Mike D'Antoni's system. D'Antoni's system supercharges the statistics of ball-handling guards (Jeremy Lin, Raymond Felton, Steve Nash). Harden already was an all-NBA fixture but D'Antoni's system made him a 30-point-per-game scorer and he put up mindboggling scoring and assist numbers in Houston. When Harden got to Brooklyn and people raved about Harden's numbers, people forget D'Antoni was the assistant coach. I can't call it a coincidence that Harden has looked unimpressive at times in Brooklyn after D'Antoni left, and now he's looking worse in Philadelphia.
@@michaeljohnson7945 I don't think his downfall was losing D'Antoni. His explosiveness, jumping, quickness just ain't the same, not really something that relies on coaching. Honestly, I think he's just getting old & didn't have the dedication to take care of his body, as Westbrook & KD both pointed out.

He hasn’t been the same since the hamstring injury. He also doesn’t have the work ethic and desire of players like LeBron and Giannis so he won’t be the same.
I’ve always thought Harden was massively overrated. Even when he was averaging 36. He exploited the rules and he also doesn’t take care of his body especially in the off-season. He’s so focused on the fame and now he’s close to his mid 30s and it’s catching up to him.
With Harden at least giving you 20+ pts with 10+ ast along with Tyrese Maxey & Tobias Harris producing then they have a good chance. But without Joel Embiid I have Miami winning but the Heat didn’t play well last night - Tyler Herro was the difference in G1
James Harden’s problem is that the league has caught up to his skill set. Every team has played against Harden and has studied his go to moves. He has to evolve slightly. Maybe move w/o the ball more, add a mid range, post moves etc. the league has adjusted to his old moves he just needs to adjust too. He can still avg 20-25 ppg, 42%fg.
I agree with you. Same thing happen with KD. KD has a jumper similar to Lonzo where he shoots from the left side of his body & the Celtics were able to contest his shot easily due to this. Also teams now know KD can’t handle double & triple teams like that. And KD has a predictability too with how he scores where he just shoots over u or does a hesi pullup & teams know how to guard that. You have to adapt your game & add nuances to your game to make you harder to guard
Do you really think it took years for teams to figure that out? He's been running the same two plays his entire career. The difference is he's lost his first step, and since defenders don't have to respect the drive as much, his stepback doesn't work either.
@@anthonycelestin3559 we'll see if KD has been cracked next season. KD was looking like he was figuring things out by game 4. KD isn't Harden, he'll work on getting better.

What’s crazy is people seem to forget how good harden was at the mid range game before about 2016. He used to face up at the elbow and cook people from middy. Also was known for his euro step early on. Once Kevin mchale was fired and we hired mike D’antoni is when he started only driving or doing a step back 3 because that’s what he was being asked to do. Now he is deserving of all of the hate he is getting rn Bc he never kept himself in good enough shape and hasn’t progressed or learned anything to add to his game. But to act like he’s always played this way is just plain wrong.
There's no reason he shouldn't still have a good midrange besides just not doing it. You'd imagine he'd be turning to it since his 3 is bad and he can't get to the rim.
It’s up to him to keep working on the middy and the post game. I can’t blame that on any coach. Every great player has a counter to a counter. Even lebron has more offensive moves than harden rn
Lebron & Brady have set an unrealistic bar of how long someone's prime should last. Harden will be entering his 13th season. Under any other circumstance, this is considered to be completely normal. Lol
Those two are the most notable, but not the only ones. Many players especially in basketball have continued to play at a high level after 33. Chris Paul is 36 and playing great. Vince Carter played 22 seasons, Jamal Crawford hit 20 seasons as well and was always able to get by people. It is getting more and more common with people actually developing a varied skill set and mastering team play.
@@tonis8180 Lebron won 4 rings while being the best player on his team each time. And Lebron is at the end of his career and still playing better than a much younger Harden.

Thing is that the heat weren’t exactly invincible last night. Herro played great but they definitely looked very beatable especially at the end of the first half.
We need to appreciate LeBron more. He is 37 and still trains, conditions, and keeps up his nutrition like he did when he was 22. This is why he’s still a Top 5 player in the league, averaging 30, and putting up 50-point performances still; which was literally a month ago. Harden is disappointing to watch. I was impressed at first, but he declined quickly as the game progressed. The Sixers are in trouble.
I mean if i used a couple of years perfecting the ability to draw a foul, become an MVP because of it, then the league changes the rules to stop that from happening anymore. I'd be washed too. He gets the Charles Barkley pass on that one.

His decline is not just age, it’s also the fact that he’s out of shape - he doesn’t invest the time and discipline needed to be in shape and preserve himself. That’s on him. Also, he needs to develop some new moves to add to his limited arsenal. He’s no longer at that stage where he can do a few things and you just can’t stop it.
People age differently. I talk to a guy was approaching 80. He said for years I felt 50. Then one day he woke up and he felt 80. Harden maybe a guy like that. You go from feeling 25 to all of a sudden old in a heartbeat. If Harden can't drive the lane and throw his hands up getting phantom fouls. Then players don't need to respect him driving by you it kills his step back. Now you have a volume scorer who can't even get up volume to score any more. He's not getting 12+ FTs a game of free points on top of it to add it his 10-30 shooting night he's so famous for. You now have 20 points instead of 32.
@@larrylindgren9484 That’s interesting. I actually never knew that, thank you. If that’s the case with Harden this would make sense, especially coming off of that hamstring injury. I can still imagine that his poor diet and conditioning has only exacerbated it. The thing is that even last season he was very effective with a much lower free throw rate; so I see this as more a product of conditioning, attrition and mentality than officiating. It’s a lot of things; In the end, Harden is washed.
He's always had a lousy mentality, but his physical talent made up for it. Not anymore. He's going to decline worse than Westbrook because he doesn't take care of himself.
You're both wrong and right. The defense in today's era is much better IF you're a team that actually plays defense. The defense in the past was WAY MORE physically demanding. Players of the past would have problems playing in today's era, but players in this era would also have problems in the past. Harden would get killed in the past. Guys like Kobe or Giannis would have no problems adjusting
The karma that came due this season was we so satisfying. These guys think they can cut corners and pretend to have a cause all season, only to fail in the playoffs.
A lack of getting to the free throw line was never Harden's problem in the playoffs. 8.7 free throw attempts per game for his regular season career. 7.9 per game for his playoff career. His problem in the playoffs is he just doesn't show up. Period
The Sixer went on a run for the last 5 minutes of the 2nd quarter - the rest of the game was completely controlled by Miami. But again we’re talking James Larden lol

First the NBA changed the rules to correct offensive flopping. Then James got older and his lack of work ethic and physical discipline to condition and protect his body finally caught up to him.
It's been a perfect storm of events that have caused his rapid decline.
@Will James Jr
100% agree 👍🏼
Yup.
Lol
I won't pay him cuz he garbage
Or maybe he’s just taking the backseat to embid lol
Bro was scoring 20 of his points of foul shots, the refs adjusted to the game and now JH cant score as much

@@Digital.midori not even close.
5 of 13 is actually a good Harden playoff performance. Harden's standard in big games is 2 of 11 in the playoffs.
The best James Harden of the James Harden was in Houston Rockets before he left the Rockets.
Does anyone really expect the Sixers to win the series without Joel?
The talent is there, but there is no assertive leader to push the Sixers over the Heat.
I didn’t expect them to win with Joel either, the heat have way more depth and actually have leadership
With Harden at least giving you 20+ pts with 10+ ast along with Tyrese Maxey & Tobias Harris producing then they have a good chance. But without Joel Embiid I have Miami winning but the Heat didn’t play well last night - Tyler Herro was the difference in G1
@@OfficialCarlay it’s not even a series without Joel Miami will sweep them
Even with him I didn’t expect them to win
James Harden’s problem is that the league has caught up to his skill set. Every team has played against Harden and has studied his go to moves. He has to evolve slightly. Maybe move w/o the ball more, add a mid range, post moves etc. the league has adjusted to his old moves he just needs to adjust too. He can still avg 20-25 ppg, 42%fg.
You trippin , he has no love or dedication to the game. It shows on the court, he's washed .
He needs to give me at least 30 I can’t do anything with 16 if he’s gonna give me 16 points he’s gonna dish out 20 assists
@@anthonycelestin3559 we'll see if KD has been cracked next season. KD was looking like he was figuring things out by game 4. KD isn't Harden, he'll work on getting better.
James is the point guard and facilitator Philly always needed .. he's not a superstar anymore but he doesn't have to be .. They won't win this season but next season, adding more depth and shooting to this team and Maxey taking his game to the next level .. this team can win a chip
But they traded depth and shooting to get him, I don’t think you do that to win next season. These 2 seasons are their window though.
@@mayeezy254 yeah but they wouldn't have won without him too .. In fact they would have probably lost to the raptors in the first round .. James actually played great against the raptors not scoring wise but facilitating and the pick and roll with Embiid was deadly .. Nothing Maxey could have done if he wasn't there .. So I'll judge the trade after next season I guess
Sixers need a chip or embiid will eventually leave
Ah the prime Harden days with all that winning nothing
Bro only 32 lost all expressiveness & speed
Lebron & Brady have set an unrealistic bar of how long someone's prime should last. Harden will be entering his 13th season. Under any other circumstance, this is considered to be completely normal. Lol
Those two are the most notable, but not the only ones. Many players especially in basketball have continued to play at a high level after 33. Chris Paul is 36 and playing great. Vince Carter played 22 seasons, Jamal Crawford hit 20 seasons as well and was always able to get by people. It is getting more and more common with people actually developing a varied skill set and mastering team play.
Thank Goodness Miami didn’t trade Herro for Harden. Even though that trade offer was never on the table.
We need to stop putting players on the best of all time lists when they choke every year in the playoffs. Harden, Westbrook, KD.

This dude has HISTORIC playoff choking moments EVERY single time he played in the playoffs. Every time he was in the playoffs.. it ended in an all time pathetic performance by him.

Thing is that the heat weren’t exactly invincible last night. Herro played great but they definitely looked very beatable especially at the end of the first half.
Skip picked them to go to finals
Very true, but harden has been trash
Its super obvious to tell when people dont watch the game, see the headline for a video and immediately start commenting.
Casuals....
Two things can be true!
skip always finds a way to argue, he had to bring up the trade and the topic changed from Miami series to the trade
PEDs. Since he was 15
And having fun at cancun
I mean if i used a couple of years perfecting the ability to draw a foul, become an MVP because of it, then the league changes the rules to stop that from happening anymore. I'd be washed too. He gets the Charles Barkley pass on that one.
this is exactly what i've been saying. not only did the rule change cuck him but also his role changed entirely when he joined the nets so his adjustment became even bigger.
He never did anything when the rules were in his favor either. Thats just Playoff Harden

lets be real guys, James Harden is on the decline
so yea, dont get swept like the Nets
Man he was never at that stage. He flops lmao. He use to get every cheap call. He’s not elite without free throws
He cares more about nightclubs and women.

he hasn't been the same since that game kyrie snatched his soul
Off topic. But I like Jen Hale by far over any other moderator they've had. They should keep her full time from now on
It's Harden in the playoffs, nobody should be surprised.
Harden is not good anymore, misses floaters, layups, and can’t hit his Stepback consistently.
I don’t know if he could ever actually hit those at a high percentage. He always got bailed out with fouls which keeps his percentage high.
At no point in time was Harden in the same league or level of scoring as MJ and Kobe. He’s benefited from playing in the weakest defensive era ever.
Defense is better in todays era, stop that myth.
Not to mention averaging the most ft of all time

The karma that came due this season was we so satisfying. These guys think they can cut corners and pretend to have a cause all season, only to fail in the playoffs.
A lack of getting to the free throw line was never Harden's problem in the playoffs. 8.7 free throw attempts per game for his regular season career. 7.9 per game for his playoff career. His problem in the playoffs is he just doesn't show up. Period
