A lot of UA-cam bike "reviewers" who jabber subjective stuff into a helmet mic while riding around could learn something from this. Clear, relevant, useful information. I wish more of them would do this... show me the damn motorcycle rather than telling me what you think about it. I'll make up my own mind. Thanks for the presentation and good luck with your new bike, its a nice one.
Thanks for the demo. I too have the same exact bike. I noticed the the bags were way to hard to remove and required a strong rip upwards to get them removed. To fix this, I shimmed each of the 3 panhead screws that hold the horizontal bracket that comes with the bike with 3 washers each. That fixed the problem. Notice also that the rubber grommet on the brackets have an up and down side, meaning that they are tapered and need to be place on the bracket to mesh with the case. I used contact cement to keep them from popping off.
I just found one of these FJ-09's--same color--2015 with under 1, 000 miles, and I am in the process of buying it, but I think I want to add these bags. Thanks for the video--I subbed!
Thanks for this, it was great that you showed the front view and width, my main concern was width interfering with lane splitting but it doesn't look like that will be an issue.
You are welcome. The bags add to the design I think and don't get the way of anything. The bars themselves would be more of a concern, but even they don't hurt in lane splitting.
Thank you. Im planning to get this bike next week and choosing between used with these panniers or stock and purchasing Givi's instead. I like these and like you say they do fit well aesthetically. Ride safe, cheers! :)
Very informative, thank you very much! I'm not sure if these panniers are available for the tracer here in the UK though. They aren't shown on the Yamaha website anyway.
Nice demo, thanks! When the bags are on the bike and the key is in the locked position, can you lift the handle and remove the bags, or does the lock keep the handle from being raised securing them to the bike?
This is similar to my FJR bags. The lock have the option to lock the opening of the bag & lock the bag into place. Yes u can still lock the bag while having the bag handle raised which means u can remove the bag from its place. Or not raising the handle while locking ur bag and the bag will be locked to the bike.
I don't think 22 liter bags will suit my needs. I'll be looking into what Givi, and Shad have to offer. The bike does look clean with the bags off though.
Is there a published weight limit to what you can put in the bag? I like to haul 12-packs of Dos Equis home from the liquor store and it's not exactly light. My St1300 says no more than 12 pounds.
Hey man that's a beautiful bike I own a fz 09 and the power of the engine is amazing. And i want the saddle bags but I have a top case for the bike right now. I only use it for my helmet and to put my jacket in there. But is the bike really torque to you or is it just me? Ride safe =)
MarksmanKillaz The FJ fuel mapping is much smoother than the FZ I am told. It is very "tourquey" still so not a bike for beginners. Easier for in town than the Multistada that hates to go slow.
Mark, nice vid & informative. Have been looking at the FJ-09 to compliment my Harley Ultra but for commute purposes. Would be commuting about 55 miles each way a few days a week. Now that you've had the bike for over a month, how are you liking it and do you take it in much traffic? Thanks!
thehexter1 Thanks. I too owned a Harley when I bought the FJ. This bike is like butter compared to the rougher Harley. I take it in weekend traffic and it feels solid. It is so light and nimble that I think it would do well in commute traffic. The seat is a bit rough past 30 mi for me. I'm getting a Corbin now. I love the bike and can't wait to get back on it. Fun every minute.
Thanks Mark! Gonna take a test ride on one later today at the local dealer. I take the Harley on my long trips, just got back form 1,100 ride up through Oregon from Santa Rosa. The FJ-09 would be a commute bike through the 101 corridor up here to Oakland. Need something narrower to split lanes. :-)
thehexter1 For sure. I don't split on the highway, but this bike is very light and flickable I imagine a good candidate for commuting. The bars are wide, but not an issue if you're splitting safely. Get one and we'll go riding!
Well, the local dealer isn't letting anyone test ride the FJ-09's because "they sell without it"! Hmmm, the 2 bikes they got in are still sitting there. Anyway, the demo truck is coming on 7/11-12 so I'll get on one then and let you know the results. Also going to ride the FJR-1300 but doubtful I'll go that route as I still have the Harley for my long distance trips and vacations. On;y concern is dealing with the chain drive. Have always had shaft or belt drives which require little to no maintenance. Keep hearing how one has to clean and lube the chain every 500-800 miles. Ugh! :-)
thehexter1 GP Sports in San Jose has a demo. They are great. Tell them I sent you. I've ridden mostly chains all my life and have not ever felt that I needed to service the change so often. I probably will pay more attention to this now, but I've only had one chain fail and that was an old bike that we trashed as kids.
I just bought this bike in March and I ordered the bags, which arrived but can not seem the get the hardware. Can you tell me where I may be able to get the bars needed? I live in Canada but can order from USA. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.
First of all thanks for your response. How they deal with the wind when they're full? any issues on the bike? one up two up? And last is there any top case thats fits there? Yamaha or aftermarket? S
I paid $135.00 for tiny LED lights that install into my Givi 35 Liter side cases which can not fit a helmet inside them My Top bag buries the stock tail lights and turn signals but I added a license plate mounted LED digital light . Admore costs $200 made in Canada
The stealer keyed my bags to match my FJ-09 key. So no need for a separate key. You should take it back to them and have them re-key it. For the money you pay, it would be foolish not to do it.

A useful and real-world difference to most UA-cam road tests, cheers Mark.

sscarcello I find that they are very easy now after 500 mi and 20 removals.
Nice video I'm thinking about buying one of these bikes soon and wanted to know more about the saddlebag setup this was very helpful!!!
+Dalk Lenderman Great. Glad to help and happy to see more of these bikes on the road.

just got a new old stock.its killer ,and i like it better than the newer ones.totally love it

Great Demo of the bag set up. Really does finish off the design of this bike. Very nice!

Beautiful bike, I've been thinking about getting a V-strom 1000.....this bike does have my interest though.
Very informative, thank you very much! I'm not sure if these panniers are available for the tracer here in the UK though. They aren't shown on the Yamaha website anyway.
Nice review, thanks.
Thanks for showing us. I'll have to look into getting a set now :)

What is the L W D of the interior of the bags.
nice demo, does a full face helmet fit in?
No, it is too narrow.
Dry Ice
You can get used FJR bags. They will fit FJ-09 and they're 2.5 inches wider, they will fit a helmet.
thnx

Mark would you know how many ltrs they are?
I live in Santa Cruz! got a '15 FJ09, love it!
Thanks for your demo. I wonder how confortable is this bags for the back passenger.
Felipe Gonzalez Good question. There should be no interference with a passenger. Maybe I'll do a video that shows this.
I would really love to know what the total width of the installed bags are. My FJR is about 36 inches.
Good video, thanks. I just bought this exact bike.

What's a California edition mean? Is that a special Fj09 for emissions reasons? Or just that beautiful candy red color?
Nathan Ton It is a separate model number and is most likely different emissions.
hi, I live in Italy and I would like to buy the bags, can you indicate the make and model?
The side cases is also for the tracer 700 or fj-07?
Hi Mark! Nice Review, but tell me, how did you solve the problem of storing the helmet? Greetings and good luck!
I can't store the helmet and that is not great. I simply lock it using the included cable.
Hey man that's a beautiful bike I own a fz 09 and the power of the engine is amazing. And i want the saddle bags but I have a top case for the bike right now. I only use it for my helmet and to put my jacket in there. But is the bike really torque to you or is it just me? Ride safe =)

Hi, thanks for the vid. Are these the factory Yamaha 22L bags?
Yes

SJ GP Sports! I was just there a week or so ago, how was your dealership experience with them?
kronikinsomniak Very good. Great demos. Fair pricing.
Hi Mark,
nice Review , can you please tell me if a Helmet fits in those bags?
Thanks ; )
Helmet will not fit. Will need at least a 36 liter size saddlebag for helmets
Can it store full face helmet?
Derrick Wong No
What brand is the side box?
Brobuyan Riz Yamaha
Same as the FJR1300
Would they fit on a 2004 Yamaha Fz1?
You'll have to inquire with a FZ1 owner. I don't know. I doubt it.

yocracing.com is the cheapest I've seen. In SoCal. Part number 2PP-F84G0-V0-00
Mark, Thank you for the video. May I ask you the brand for the hard saddlebags and the attachment to the passenger pegs and the price ?
Thanks a lot.
ANIL YUKCE Yamaha. The list pricing will be on Yamaha's site.
Thanks a lot
In Germany we have just the 'Softbag' Version...
No hard saddlebags... :(
Can u fit a full size helmet in there?
Ford Guy No.
great video, thanks for taking the time. Fantastic sexy looking sport tourer!
Looks like the BMW System bags from the nineties.
What is their volume. Im sorry if I didnt heard it. Anyone knows?
pan theMan 22L per bag
hmmm quite small
pan theMan Yes, useful for urban hauling, but you'll have to pack tight for a trek.
First of all thanks for your response.

The stealer keyed my bags to match my FJ-09 key. So no need for a separate key. You should take it back to them and have them re-key it. For the money you pay, it would be foolish not to do it.
Skub Berson Who is the stealer?
Mark Trenchard LOL he means the dealership, but affectionately calls them the Stealership, or stealer for short.
shin888 +Mark Trenchard Haha, yes. I wasn't aware that colloquialism wasn't known to everyone...
If part of the case was painted. One more thing to worry about. :)
Chuck M no paint on these
they look good but Yamaha uk list these at £390 EACH! holy cow batman, methinks that just blew the deal.
if my helmet won't fit I won't buy them. Givi makes a beautiful bag and my helmet fits just fine.
+Dennis Herreid
Get the FJR bags. About an inch wider, same mounts, and holds a helmet. Plus you can get matching colors.
Xlnt.!
the jellyrolling of the camera is awful!! Love the bike tho!
MT not fj :)
Master Of Torque for some reason :)
