Around fourteen seconds into the video in an almost lovecraftian display of curiosity I read the excerpt of the poem, and experience complete liver failure.
The dead swans lay in the stagnant pool. They lay. They rotted. They turned Around occasionally. Bits of flesh dropped off them from Time to time. And sank into the pool's mire. They also smelt a great deal. Paul Neil Milne Johnson of 37 Wasp Villas, Greenbridge, Essex, GB10 1LL. Vogan poetry is mild by comparison
Heh The compliments at the end were priceless I trotted out 'counterpoint the surrealism of the underlying metaphor' in an English class once Couple of the guys knew where the quote was from but the teacher thought I'd gone mad Very funny all the same
I get that this is comedy and all (which is executed perfectly), but for some reason, I also get this very dark and sinister feeling from this bit you've created specifically (More so than from the actual movie). Well done!
I loved how in the TV version for Paula Neil Milne Johnson (Adams changed the gender for TV and the book IIRC) used the animation rendering of Adams himself with female hair.
Such a classic, missing only the introductory description of the *imagery intensifiers* and *simile dumpers* into which our favored folks were strapped, so that no escape from the audible torture was at all possible during the reading. ;)

These are great! What do you think about making a separate playlist in chronological order? (Well, time travel aside--following the order of the story anyway.)
It misses the joke though. The point was that some poetry is just so bad it’s painful to listen to for everyone. Having him not being affected detracts from that
Not quite. Paul Neil Milne Johnstone was a poet of mild prominence that went to school with Douglas Adams. Adams used his name here (if you're not aware, this audio is from the original radio show). In later versions (most printings of the book, the TV show, later radio recordings) Adams changed it, at Johnstone's request, to Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings.
@@jamesmcgee7723 Yes, it was very good, and on the station which carried it in my area, it was followed by the serialized radio play of Star Wars... also very good.

The way you animated the vogon _smiling_ was beyond perfect. It needs to be a .gif, and fast.
+MKtheinstrumentalist hope this is fast enough nick-of-the-dead.deviantart.com/art/Vogon-Poetry-589620363?ga_submit_new=10%253A1454978690

*AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH*
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH IT'S TOO MUCH!!!! *Dies*
Honestly this poem is quite good
Ugghhh aargghh
I think Douglas would approve. And if you knew me, you'd know that's the highest possible praise I could give.
Nice touch giving the Vogons their bureaucratic suits from the movie, but still staying true to the original material.
Heh

priceless :)
I particularly like the green monochrome monitor for the book. Brilliant touch. :)

"Tell me how good my poem was..."
"It would make a very good sonic weapon. ouch..."
Guards! Take the prisoners to number three airlock and throw them out.
@@adambesley4455 yes, but... "Death is too good for them."
Love you work. I wish you could do a whole animated show of this. I love hitchhikers!
I tried that but it got taken down. The 2nd half of the first episode is still up though
Think this strikes a chord with a multitude of kids who were forced to read Poetry from age 11 to 16!
The vogon didn't like Arthur's answer despite saying that the vogon just wanted to be loved and had them thrown out into space anyway-- what a jerk
[Conformation Needed]
damn earth not dying when you blow it up.
will you be doing the whole book?
i'm just doing clips at the moment but i do want to at least do the whole first episode
Nick Page There really very good
I didn't expect to find you Weasel!
The radio series. The book is only a tie in.
Yes, very good. I'm waiting for the babel fish.

Silly silly 😜 silly, love your poetry and delightful animation !
And thus, cringe damage was invented
Cause of death: Laughter
10/10 would laugh again
This stuff is totally awesome.
To the vacuum of space it is then...
people this is no joke... vogons are here and they are real... they are trying to kill me
Very nice animations! Please do more! :D
excellent work ..very hoopy!
One thing I like about the new movie vs this is that Aurthur didn't feel pain for it and was just confused. It just seemed so... human.
It misses the joke though. The point was that some poetry is just so bad it’s painful to listen to for everyone. Having him not being affected detracts from that
@@ethanmillward675 It also might imply that Arthur is just so low in intelligence that Vogon poetry just flows through his brain.
Saddened that you left off Arthur and Ford getting creative with their compliments- by far the best bit IMO
That bit was in the next episode. That's the cliff hanger that the first episode ends on
+Nick Page ah fair enough then I suppose
we need to get james earl jones to read a Vogon poem
"I liked it!"
Funny how your rendition of Paul Neil Milne Johnstone looks exactly like Vyvyan from _The Young Ones_ .
Wow! I loved it!
AARRGGG I ALMOST DIE ON VOGON POETRY AND I'M A UNIVERS CREATOR FOR PRIMUS SAKE
I've always wondered something. What exactly is a "gruntbuggly"?
auranit Good question. Although now I know where Lewis Carroll got his poetry lessons from.
top stuff. do the book entry about the towel next
I liked it!
What is a "freddled gruntbuggly" anyway?
It is gruntbuggly that has been freddled. As phrase it is similar to roasted pork.
ron and harry look weird
0:51 I know this is an old video, and you don't care but the name is Paula* not Paul. She was a famous British poet I assume.

ok cool ehere

This low budget 80s production blows away that 2000s cringe fest movie.
