    I just got my first set from aliexpress today. The Parisian Restaurant. A retired set that would cost me around $450, I got it for $65. So far the build is amazing. The minifigs faces are a bit unsettling but that’s an easy fix.

  • @remiharmens9325
    @remiharmens9325 4 місяці тому +4

    It is a complete coincidence but I finished building the same modular today, also bought at Ali and with the ugly faces of the minifigs being the only (minor) negative point. Because they split the set in two separate packages for shipping even my baseplate arrived completely flat.
    My conclusion is the same as yours: great value for money, nothing missing, no bad stones, good manual. This is the seventh replica of out-of-production Lego modulars that I have built and they were all great. Only one had some milky windows. By the way, as an alternative to using baseplates you could perhaps also use the mils system. I have never done that myself, but it does seem to be a good solution especially if you want to build a city. Nice video!

      That’s a surprise about the baseplate, did yours bend at all when putting pressure on? I have considered mils but trying to be affordable it’s a big add on. I’m happy you had a good experience like me. Thanks so much for watching! Have a great day!!

      May i ask you guys.
      I have bought more lego smaller sets vehicles and other real lego after those replicas so in the end it makes me buy more lego.
      Also would never pay 800 bucks for a box of lego.
      Those prices are insane.

    • @remiharmens9325
      @remiharmens9325 28 днів тому

      You are quite right. The Lego prices are often insane. I certainly am willing to pay a premium price for a premium product and a good design, but the differences are just to large and imho cannot be fully justified. I am building the fake version of the Titanic and the quality is absolutely comparable to that of Lego at a quarter of the price. No problems whatsoever and the result looks great. They are asking just to much money for a set like that which is a shame as I would prefer buying the original.

    My advice would be to start the build with a MILS plate. This would stop the corners of the base from bending upwards. I source mine from Smyths toys... the buildit base plates and 1000 brick sets.

      @BallisticBricks42 my son and I have been creating dioramas for our cobi military collection. If you've not seen cobi, take a look.. it's like brickmania, but it actually looks like a tank / plane / vehicle and costs less than 1/5th of the price.
      Ultimately, we will be relocating to the eifel area, buying a property with a large ancillary building for a huge permanent landscaped diorama. I mean huge... bricksie scale huge... meantime we attend every show at the tank museum to display.

    I have just bought this set on ebay. I don’t know if I have a good deal or not. I knew before purchase that some pieces were missing such as the car and maybe some other minor pieces, but I felt that £57 inclusive of postage was a reasonable deal. My ultimate intention is to use this to create another floor or two over the underground station which I completed last week. First I will do the cinema build. It arrived just broken down into its main modules so the first task is to fully disassemble before building.

    Morning ballistic, hope you are well? I'm thinking of getting some retired modulars off aliexpress but with the issues you have with base plates, it's putting me off. Also have you had any issues with the smaller base plates or is it just the big one?

    • @BallisticBricks42
      @BallisticBricks42  24 дні тому +1

      Hey Sean, I’m not so sure what you mean by the small and big baseplates. I know Lego release them in two sizes. The normal one that Modular’s go on and then an extra big one. I’ve never experimented with the biggest one Lego or fake companies have to offer. Once the Modular is built on a baseplate, there’s not normally a big problem. But what I’ve done is for a few of my Modular’s, buy a real Lego baseplate and build the fake set on there. If that’s the only thing putting you off then you don’t have much to worry about. Buying the set for a heavily discounted amount basically buys you the real baseplate by itself. Hope this helps! Have a great day!!

      The amount of money Ur spending on regular Lego baseplates I could make a mils. As I said, Ali express for baseplate and double sided plate. All you need then is roughly 30 2x2 bricks and some technic 2x1 or 4x1 bricks. I've made loads from either existing Lego of from bundles off FB marketplace. Worth it in long run, FLAT and safe to move around.

    Nice to get this insight. For me personally -and i totally get the point of getting a modular like this for smaller money- dont really like the fact that they just take existing modular designs from lego and copy them 1:1. Take a look at some other companies out there like Pantasy, they create own designs for modulars, and those indeed look very lovely.
    On the other hand, some companies just straight up steal designs from rebrickable and other mocers out there, and sell them as their own..

      I have a video coming up next week on pantasy! I have talked about the ethical issues before and it is a problem, but Lego don’t sell a lot of these Modular’s anymore, so they won’t make money either way is my thought process. That’s a big reason I made the channel just to share my experience, but I understand people having a problem too. Thanks for watching!!

      I have to agree with @BallisticBricks, LEGO have had their money from selling these modulars. They no longer make them and, when sold on the secondary market, they make no money unless it’s via BrickLink, where they’re getting a second bite of the cherry.
      If, on the other hand, it was a current set, I wouldn’t personally buy a reproduction.

    Well, i really cant think that buy alternative "lego" is a good idea. In some point, and its just my opinion, this dont sounds ethical. The original manufacturer spent a lot of money with intelectual property. We all know that this set is no more produces by lego..however we need to applie a limit and dont encourage these companies that stole intelectual properties. Thats the point, for me is a question of principles.

      @@BallisticBricks42 It's great to hear different viewpoints, and I appreciate your openness to discussion.
      While it's true that LEGO doesn't directly profit from the resale of retired sets, the issue of purchasing knockoffs extends beyond just the financial aspect for the original manufacturer. Here are a few considerations:
      Supporting Criminal Activities-Buying knockoffs can inadvertently support illegal operations, which is a larger issue that affects communities and economies worldwide.
      Unethical Labor Practices- The production of counterfeit goods is often associated with poor working conditions and exploitation practices.
      *Should also mention; Undermining Innovation,Personal Integrity and Misrepresentation of the brand.
      Exploring ORIGINAL designs from other companies is a fantastic way to diversify ones collection, provided those companies also respect INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY and ETHICAL PRACTICES.
