The Federal Sign and Signal Corporation STL-10A. This can run on anywhere from 15-25 horsepower and produces a significantly lower tone than the STH-10A because of the siren having fewer ports. The sound comes from the chopper inside the siren chopping through the air at very fast but oscillating speeds for the attack signal.
Worked for Radnor years ago as a paid EMT. When the alarm went off the bankers, carpenters, lawyers and shoe salesmen would all show up. It was quite an experience.

I lived 3 blocks off of City Ave in Wynnefield and responded with Narberth Ambulance to many of those sirens for fire calls, heavy rescues, river rescues and the like. Even in Wynnefield, they’re audible but not annoying. I was a paramedic with the VMSC for almost 18 years and could identify every station by it’s siren, although they were similar, they were distinct.

I thought it was 10 horsepower only?

Imagine living in West Philadelphia, within earshot of three different townships, full of fire stations like this! 😛
That would be a nightmare.

@@milwright Near St Joe's? I remember Narberth Ambulance, too.
@@EyeWatchThemAll I spent a little over 17 years with Narberth. It set me up for my retirement job with the PFD.
I like the color style on the fire apparatus.
Why cant it wind out longer
I’m sorry but fire trucks should be red . Hence fire engine red
What was the call
Federal stl 10
Is this still a volunteer fire departments?
all over rural Ohio, WV, Western PA. Many still have house sirens like this.
