I bought one of these in white yesterday. 1984 Targa Whale Tail. My 7th Porsche in 10 years. Prior car...two days ago...was a Porsche GT4. Clearly very different cars. But this vid does nail it. I've had more fun in the Targa in one day than I had in two years in the GT4. Does that make sense? Nope...but wow. Just wow. The Targa is AMAZING.
Thanks for this. In 1994 I bought an 84 coupe. It was a stretch for me but it was beautiful, fast, and reliable and I couldn’t believe my good fortune owning such an exquisite machine. Brings back great memories.
Sweet ... thank you for sharing your personal experience with us ...... this is my dream car ..... the Porsche 911 targa 3.2! I saw it first in 1983 of my neighbor’s ... I was 13 then.... later had the chance to sit in one at the dealership, but never drove one!
I would argue the 1984 is the best of the original. It retains most of the lightness and simplicity of the SC but has the 3.2 Motronic controlled engine. Every year thereafter brought a little more bloat.
Ouzo Lou Garage, I have an 85 Porsche targa all original with 40k miles idk if you or anyone you know of would be interested, my number is 9098150652 thanks
Me! And the owner... And by pure, what I meant was purely analog, as after this generation we see the introduction of lots of driver aids and electronic systems.
Yeah, there are a couple of nice roads, looks almost identical to the spot on your video...but not enough road to justify a trip down from Winnetka. Nice video BTW, I love 930s and I hope to get one in the next year or two. So many decisions between Targa or hardtop, 915 or G50, SC or Carrera...there are tougher things to stress about though than buying an old 911!
I'll have to check the area out! I'm always looking for good spots around the city. And I'm jealous, I wish I was shopping around for classic 911's! I think if I had the money, if go for a 930. But idk what I'd choose between hardtop and targa...
Oh yeah, the 917k is definitely not a 911. I stretched outside the 911 lineup and went for the most expensive Porsche purchased (that I could find) just to make my point haha
More reliable the (non Mezger) 996 and 997 (water cooled, therefore) engines ?!!! Have you ever heard about IMS issues, RMS leaks, cylinders lining cracks ? 🤦♂️
Hey friend! No, I hadn't, and all 911's have their reliability issues, I suppose I was more trying to highlight the mechanical simplicity of the car, in comparison to the newer cars. Maybe I got too excited while driving this gorgeous car. Thanks for the notes!
Checkpoint 3.2 Carrera is bulletroof, believe me 😊 It already has the hydraulic cam chain tensioners, aluminium crankcase, good reliable EFI 😊👌 ... and if you add to all of this a G50 gearbox it will become 🔝
Checkpoint There’s a reazon for their value, and awesome $$$ apreciation curve during last 10 yrs, for almost all aircooled 911’s (maybe with the exception of the ‘74-‘77 2.7 EFI magnesium crankcase powered ones)
wrong information. Nuno, all porsche engines have had major issues. There isnt one that hasnt event the mighty 993. IMS and RMS issues occurred on cars never driven, naturally bearings dry and seals dry up. The issues with all porches engines are with cars never driven or maintained.

I love that drive on Chicago's north shore.
You have hit it right on the head, last of the elevens, pure 911.
Really good video! Well done.
Thanks! Be sure to tell your friends ;)

What a gorgeous car! You definitely did it justice with this video
Thanks! The maroon color is unlike anything I'd seen before. And it definitely drives as good as it looks
So perfessional!
Like the Movie Car Crash called "Patriot Games" (1992) Seen Like a Jack Ryan Movie.
‘87-‘89.....these are the best of the original

My friend has one of these. Never got to drive it but fun car to ride in anyways lol
Great video :-)
Thanks! It was a blast to make
I want a 911 targa soooo bad haha
Me too, it took all my self control not to talk away with the keys...
This is my dream car but its pretty expensive
One of my favorite 911. Thanks for checking my channel sorry it took so long to visit
No worries, I hope you liked the vid!

great car
last and best pure porsche 911's ?? according to who?

Were those wooded shots out by Willow Springs/ Maple Lake?
Nah, it's up north by Winnetka. Is there a good spot over near Willow Springs?

I don’t think the 917k is a 911, it’s a 917k

That's what I love to hear! Now if only they weren't so damn expensive...

“Achieve great things”? Sorry but that’s a bit much.
Whats wrong with 1985 or 1986?? I came here expecting to hear why 84 is better than 85. You jumped right to 89. FAIL
