Watching someone discover Ingrid Andress for the first time was really cool to watch so thanks for uploading this! You will love her in concert she's great!
Of late, all the great new music I learn about is through you Michael. Thanks! This song really hits close and is so beautifully written. Brought serious tears to my eyes.
I saw Ingrid together with Lauren Jenkins at the airport in Nashville in 2015. They where playing at a cafe, a bit hungover, mostly covers but they had some own material to play. Me and my friends almost missed our flight listening, and we’ve followed them since then. All the best from Sweden.
This is why I fell in love with Country music. Well-crafted, it reaches right in, grabs your heart and squeezes until it hurts too much. What a voice, what lyrics, what a performance. And thank you for making me aware of her!
Never heard of Ingrid before this video, and this isn't my usual genre, but.... wow. I'm blown away by the deconstructed honesty of her lyrics, her voice, and her performance. I listen to, and play a lot of rock, metal, blues, alternative, and older country -- with that, her lyrical storytelling reminds me of a couple of not-so-mainstream bands: Gaslight Anthem (Springsteen-esque storytellers) and Gang of Youths (intelligent, poetic storytellers -- your eyes will "sweat"). The honesty and heartfelt nature of her vocal performance reminds me in a way of Teddy Swims. Vocally, they are quite different, but she and he both give me the sense that they are singing their songs from a place of sincerity and vulnerability that brings a tear to my eye, and a smile to my face, as they share their truth through music. Thank you for making this video.
Subscribed! Love this song so much. One of my favorite things about music is talking about the meaning of songs and the magical elements that make it unique. The first time I heard this song on SiriusXM “The Highway” I went on Apple Music and downloaded it. Great tune and I loved the way you broke it down! Awesome..
Another great choice! This was her 1st #1 Country song. By the way, I wouldn't worry about not having written a song yet yourself; that isn't what you do. What you do- explaining all of this in understandable and usable ways- is not something most people who play it and know it can do. You are able to do something unique. If you never write your own music that's no problem. I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos. Keep doing what you do so well!
The Ryman is a really old church that became a music venue. The pews are really beautiful old wood, which makes the whole place resonate sound like a violin. Seriously, you feel the music no matter who is playing. Ingrid’s song is a wonderful example of this!
I really enjoy how you do these, you look at a song for what it is in its full essence. Not just the chords, rhythm, melody, and musical elements. You look at the meaning of the lyrics, the emotion put in, atmosphere of the room. Fully encapsulates a song and what it represents
Write a song Mike! You’ve got this! I know it’s hard to open up and be vulnerable when it’s just you, a guitar and a pen, but it’s so therapeutic. I can’t play guitar nearly as well as you, but writing my little songs is my therapy.
Hey Michael, awesome vid!! I find myself smiling ear to ear watching your enthusiasm lol when you said you haven’t really written a song I was floored. That gave me so much hope because I’m not the only one like that! I have a degree from ACM in guitar performance and we took songwriting 1&2 but even the songs I wrote I wouldn’t consider them MY songs. They all had parameters. Thanks for being honest and inspiring!!! Looking forward to your originals!
Wow just Wow!!! That is just the BRILLIANCE of basic songwriting. Beautiful story told over beautiful melodies and lyrics. Love the peaks and valleys she exhibits in her singing!!! I am now a HUGE FAN of Ingrid's now!!!!
Michael, given the depth at which you feel and appreciate other people's songs (stories), it's readily apparent you have the life experiences and depth of character to craft your own song/story. I look forward to hearing it when you do write it. But...even if the proverbial bus-hitting were to prevent that from happening, please know you have impacted many lives regardless, including mine. Thank you for that.
So glad I watched this. What a great tune. Awesome job on the commentary, man. Love your commentary about whats happening musically and the passion you have when telling us why it matters. Great shit man.
Im getting sentimental in my old age. This brought me to tears. Going thru breakups when i was younger and split with my wife after 21 yrs a few years back then my daughter going thru her first real relationship, this tune hit me from all angles. I cant believe you have never written a song, get on it. I do find it hard to write by myself tho, i would rather collaborate.
I loved how you break everything, and explains what's actually going on behind the scenes. P.S. When you finish your first song and you will, Send it to me because I know I will love it.
More Hearts than Mine is one of the songs that my duo partner and I get the best audience reaction in our gigs. It gets a similar reaction as Desperado. People stop talking and listen to every word.
Absolutely love this song & Ingrid. Have you seen any of the "Hey There Delilah" response videos people have done turning that song in to an entire story. I feel like this song needs a response to it in the same way. Those HTD response videos are amazing, I mean they just suck you in to the story.
Every time I see you discussing an accomplished and original singer-songwriter in that T-shirt, I can’t help but wonder what Prine fans would make of one of his English contemporaries. I can’t recommend ‘Grain of Sand’ by Harvey Andrews highly enough. (The opening line is literally lifted from a letter his aunt wrote to his mother).
Michael, I watch a bunch of your videos and every time one comes out I just keep thinking "man, he needs to react to "Everything that glitters is not gold" by Dan Seals." It's everything music should be...several live versions on youtube, look it up when you get the chance or give it a reaction if you're feeling like having your heart pulled out of your chest on camera :)
@Guitargate Love the videos. Ever heard of Oli Brown? I came across him a few years back. Give him a listen and tell me what ya think? So many variations in his music.
One thing I hate about most new radio friendly songs is what you got caught up on around 8 minutes in. You typically get a full 1st verse, then chorus. The 2nd verse is only half the length of the 1st, then a 2nd chorus. Some sort of short bridge, but then you get a 3rd and sometimes 4th chorus to end. Almost no mainstream song has a full length 2nd verse or a 3rd verse. I hate that. At least in the better songs like this one, they change the lyrics a bit in the chorus.
@@Guitargate the lines about my daddy pretend he doesn't like you I definitely remember, might have been on a live stream of I might have cheated on the channel and watched this somewhere else. Hope you and family are doing well!
I have song lyrics written, and need a real musician to help me develop the rest. My guitar playing and music theory knowledge is limiting my ability to finish the song. If you are interested in using it as a teaching tool, perhaps we could collaborate. It would be very interesting to see a musician take a fairly polished set of lyrics and write a song to it, and also see how the music dictates changes in the lyrics.
Would be so sick to see you react to the song Violet's Tale by Ren from the big push, the guitars and vocals are actually crazy ua-cam.com/video/a4R9Vk5_CbU/v-deo.html
dude, start writing songs. its funny - I wrote songs from day 1 of playing at age 14, with no understanding of theory, the first 50 songs were just power chords, like little blink 182 songs. a person like u, with all ur knowledge, expertise and talent, it jus seems silly, but I get it - you have a mental block, a restriction or fear placed on yourself about failing perhaps, jus write a few songs that are shit, they will get better with time. accept that they dont have to be perfect and get into the groove of writing songs.
@@Guitargate oh nice, you replied. I just got home from walking my dog and I was thinking about you and I was like 'I should've given him the bet advice iv heard re song writing or doing anything creative. Here it is: Place restrictions on yourself, make it a game. Example: Restriction 1: Time Limit - eg. U have 1 hour to write a song/demo Restriction 2: It will be ___ genre eg. an early 2000s indie song like The Strokes or a country western song or whatever u like Restriction 3: The chorus will use the classic chord progression 1-5-6-4 OR the Andalusian cadence OR whatever u like The restrictions are your choosing, tho the time limit is essential, coz it takes all the pressure off. Oh my song isnt an amazing hit #1 song? No shit, I wrote everything in 1 fucken hour. Play this game, you can't lose. Hope this helps man, love your videos, I learn so much.
This is proper songwriting. Such a great storyline , melody and the killer punch line. 🥰

Saw her live as an opener late last year, and she was incredible
One of my good friends is her drummer. I know you’ll love his playing.
This is a killer tune! Ingrid Andress has definitely got it. So glad you are featuring her here. She is an artist worth hearing.

It appears the Opry channel took down this video. In addition to your excellent commentary, I thank you for preserving it the video itself.
That's just a beautiful song. Never knew who sung it until now.
Wow! What a great song and beautiful performance by a beautiful woman in a majestic place. Love it ❤️

Your uncontrollable excitement is so infectious. I get pumped watching you get pumped lol
This was the first song I heard of hers. Still listen to it today
What a beautiful voice and Ingrid Andress sings it so meaningful.
Thank you, this was great, new artist added to the library🙏

That's her best song. Incredible singing but also touching lyrics.
Write a song Michael! We are already fans!! You can do no wrong! But then you gotta teach it to us lol!
Oh my gosh she is incredible!
I've loved that song since the first time I heard it a while back.
I FUGGIN' APPRECIATE YOU SO MUCH!
THIS SONG IS SOMETHING THAT HIT ME ... HARD

Thanks!! I am who I am!
Fantastic lyrics... damn!
That's one out of 50 songs that JellyRolll has an each song hits the Heart on so many levels
Reminds me a little of Deana Carter in her vocals!
This reminds me of the really good lines that are in Dawes' "All Your Favorite Bands"...
That song has been around a long time, a great one. I really like "We're Not Friends."
Wow, that’s a good song.

When things are quiet
What do you say
Or do you just take time
To pray

great song...😢🙏🏻

Im usually not a big country fan but this shits FIRE
Thank you so much mister Parmigiano reggiano.
you’ve GOTTA react to Ashley McBryde’s Opry “Girl Goin’ Nowhere” it’s so so so powerful and you’ll LOVE IT!
I do know Ingrid and she is an awesome talent and person! Did you enjoy her show? (I know you enjoyed Keith.)
Please follow up with how the show went… I went ahead and watched a few of the other videos so I am curious if she delivered.

I have only met one person with perfect pitch and it fuhreaked me out to see it in person.
Do you have it? Because it seems like it
check out Jeff Tweedy's book on how to write a song

She sounds just like Carole King. 👍
Please tell me she’s Ursula’s granddaughter.

Michael….you’ve revealed a poet in yourself so many times…write that f’ing song dude.
More Zach Bryan pls
Seriously, no interest in seeing Urban, but would go just to see her.
