      Yeah i found a few faults in this one. Especially with the coasters they just reached their end of their life not something that should be in this Banned section. Yes some of them needed to be upgraded if they wanna be openned nowadays but thats putting modern trains on them or retracking.

    This title is misleading most of these attractions just closed but weren't banned, in NJ after the fire at the Haunted House, New Jersey banned these attractions for a couple of years while safety features were updated but, now they are back and have been for a long time. The super speed boats went away simple because pf operating cost but weren't banned. Bumper Boats weren't banned but modified to battery power and slower speed, they are still around in a lot of places. The wooden coasters shown shut down because of maintenance 'cost and rough rides but these coasters weren't banned. Lola cars are still around in some states but not banned they are just operated differently. Wave pools are still around and a main stay in a lot of water parks. Most of this video featured Action Park which as far as know is completely shut down after a number of attempts to re-open it. It was very often referred to as traction park or class action because of all the accidents and injuries at the park. The one thing I must point out is that more injuries caused at amusement parks are caused by people not obeying the rules of the ride or park, they do stupid things while on the ride/attractions that they are specifically told not to do. As a rider you are responsible for your actions and behavior while riding so keep that in mind when you go to these places and have fun and be safe.

    One of the things I read about the wave pool at Action park is that they used freshwater. Given that most people are used to saltwater in waves, and saltwater is more buoyant, that was a disaster waiting to happen.

    OMG! Thank you so much for answering a question I’ve had literally for 31 years. I grew up in Delaware and at a local fun park there was the same tank game in the mid 80s but it was gone by the time I was seven years old in 1990. I used to ask people all around “do you remember a crazy tank game down at the waterslides in Rehoboth, Delaware?” And never got a positive response. I am so happy now, literally vindicated and at peace. These were the tanks. 100%. Cool. Thanks.

    The Haunted Castle fire in 1984 was preceded by a similar accident in Australia - the 1979 Ghost Train fire in Luna Park in Sydney. That fire resulted in the deaths of seven children and one adult. Insufficient fire safety precautions were a contributing factor, although a series of investigations over the years have never yielded a complete explanation for the fire. The Ghost Train was never reopened, although Luna Park still operates.

    I have never been on the alpine slide at Action Park (although I have been to Action Park several times). But I have been on other alpine slides. They used to be popular (or maybe still are) in New England and Canada, and, well, anywhere that had hills or mountains that could be used for it. Alpine slides are A LOT safer than skiing or snowboarding. You control the speed yourself so if you are an idiot, I can see maybe how you can hurt yourself on one. That is just a Darwin Award. I went down alpine slides at a very young age with no problem; but then I listened to the advice of the instructors about controlling speed. In the video, you can see the levers on both sides of the seats -- those control speed. If you choose not to use them, well...you deserve what you get.

    • @FionaOfMountLawley
      @FionaOfMountLawley 5 місяців тому

      Action Park's wave pool departed from industry practice in one very important way (from what was and remains a common attraction). It was filled with fresh water, in which patrons are slightly less buoyant than they would be in salt water, as is routinely used elsewhere. This has a significant impact on the frequency at which patrons become unable to keep their head above water and therefore need to be assisted by lifeguards.
      For Action Park lifeguards, rescue of patrons was necessary 6 or 7 times per wave pool session on average. The sessions were 90 minutes long if I recall correctly. This is very much in contrast to figures considered normal in the industry, in which lifeguards generally aren't called on to rescue that many people in a month.

    Disneyland's most scary ride was the rocket ride, if the arm that held the rocket broke you were dead, because it was several stories off the ground. Knott's Berry Farm had two dangerous rides, the Parachute ride, where if you accidentally tried to get off, it would take off again, as my father saved my life after I nearly fell off. And the Log Ride. No seatbelt, if you stood up at the wrong time you would be a head shorter and a near vertical drop in pitch black conditions. I wonder how we survived.

    • @crooked-halo

      Sky Jump at Knotts was not "dangerous" & it didn't "take off again" if you "accidentally tried to get off," whatever that means. Timber Mountain Log Ride at Knotts has no "near vertical drop in pitch black conditions." You survived because both were/are extremely safe family rides.

    I lived in NY many years ago, when Action Park was in its peak. I never went because I was never into water park rides, but I know many who did. I just didn't realize how crazy the rides really were...a go cart riding down a steep hill on nothing short of a concrete slab? No way. As for Great Adventure, I went there the week before that fire happened and it was so terrifying and tragic. I never went into that because I don't want to wonder around scared in the dark...very sad for those who were trapped.

    I used to go to Action Park in the 80’s and 90’s. Action Park gets a bad rap now but at the time it as fine. As long as you were a strong swimmer, you were in halfway decent shape you were fine. You did not just sit there at Action Park, the motto was where you are part of the action.

      I'm sure that was true when you went kayaking and you were electrocuted to death. I'm also sure that was true when you went on the looping waterslide and you came out with deep cuts. Those were from teeth imbedded into the looping track. I've never been to a water park that had to keep an ambulance on standby. I don't know of any water park that has a high fall into water anymore because sometimes strong swimmers don't land right. Honestly, the excuse that if you're not a strong swimmer, doesn't work for me.
      Maybe you can create an academy of strong swimmers. Then you and your group can go to waterparks where they don't need liability insurance--you're group will assume all liabilities to be a risk of your group. Then you and your friends can show videos of your great masculine bravado. I'm so impressed. Look at what they can do.

      @@willshad I've got an idea. Let's put you next to the pond at Geauga Lake when they had a short--the one that killed people. Let's put you in action park's kayak pool when there was a short. Have you ever gone on Action Parks' looping slide when there were human teeth in the wall that would rip you up. Maybe you wanted to go on Luna Park's Sidney dark ride the day it caught on fire. Or maybe you want to go on Son of Beast the day the track broke. Maybe you wanted to go on the dark ride at Six Flags Great America the day it cant on fire. Maybe you wanted to be on any coaster when the rollback breaks failed. Or even be on any coaster derailment where you flat-out fall or bounce off of supporting structures on the way down. Just because I'm aware of park accidents doesn't mean I don't love amusement parks and their most terrifying rides. I have the right to nope-out anytime I don't feel safe. Even that may not be enough because parks hide their lack of maintenance from the patrons.
      Action Park was too reckless with safety. They had to have an ambulance on standby when they were in operation--that's an immediate warning sign.
      But to drive my part home, had you been parentally and unnecessary macho bravado would be wiped clean the moment you had to go to war against Action Park's insurance company. You'd be outraged as to how they could do this to you and how little they want to give you for life long injuries.
      I suspect you're the type of person who will go blindly to an Oakland house party and to feel safe, you'll pack a couple of guns--there's nothing better than packing guns to a party you were never invited to.
      You want to call me a coward? At the very minimum, I have two gray cells to rub together before I get myself into trouble. You...well, you want to be a pawn, going first on the board and getting killed before the game ever got good.
      When you call me a coward, I call you stupid. I'm happy to watch you go 1st especially on rides I may not consider safe. You get to be dead or in the hospital while I get to take the video with my camera phone.
      You have no idea how stupid your comment was, but I do. Have fun going 1st. I'll gladly let you do that so my genes can be passed to the next generation and your children with a grave and disturbing example will have to visit you in hospice.

    You show clips of sea snakes (saltwater snakes) in the speedboat pond. But the speedboat pond was a freshwater pond. You claim "perilous encounters" with snakes were a problem; but the only New Jersey freshwater snakes are northern water snakes, garter snakes, and ribbon snakes. They all are non-venomous. And not at all perilous. You should really do more research before posting.

    Six Flag's Haunted Castle, Thunderbolt, Texas Cyclone, The Python, and Disney's Flying Saucers were NEVER banned.
    Texas Cyclone and The Python were clearly a case of coasters that had become quite old and you never mention any sort of local government preventing them from operating any further. Heck, there's nothing stopping Busch Garden from creating a modern The Python with newer safety features or even have it be a singular rail styled attraction if they wanted.
    Thunderbolt was just a case of the park itself becoming concerned with how rough the ride was, but they were never legally required to close it down.
    Six Flags could've rebuilt Haunted Castle with new trailers, sprinklers, and new exit ways. However, they never cared for it THAT much and decided the temporary attraction was not worth the hassle to rebuild.
    As for Flying Saucers; their ride system was flawed but not that dangerous. If Flying Saucers were actually banned, Luigi's Flying Tires would've been far more difficult to create decades later considering they aren't too different from each other.

      Texas Cyclone was not "quite old." It was built in 1976 and was in fine shape when Astroworld closed. There are several wood coasters built in the 1920s through the 1960s still operating. Leap The Dips still runs & is in superb condition, built in 1901. A roller coaster can continue to operate as long as it is cared for mechanically. Python closed because it wasn't popular, not due to age. Thunderbolt was condemned more than once, forcing it to close, but its owners always fixed it enough for it to barely pass inspections and operate.

    There's an alpine slide in use at Ober in Gatlinburg TN. and it's no joke. That thing will mess you up if you crash. Every part of your bare skin that comes in contact with the track gives folks serious road rash.

    Action Park was awesome, I went there as a kid. There's nothing wrong with an amusement park with a little bit of actual danger involved, as long as people are aware of it. Just make people sign a waiver before they enter

    The Action Park speedboats really were too dangerous, and I agree they should have been shut down. Even if you know what you are doing; there is not enough room, there are too many people, it is a dangerous situation without human error or stupidity. Add those to the mix and you've got a very bad outcome.

    do your research...there are plenty of other roller coasters that closed because they were rough....but the texas cyclone was ultimately demolished with the rest of the park and operated all the way up to the parks closure. which was due to poor operation and poor cooperation between six flags and the city of houston.

    Growing up in NJ my dad would take me to Coney Island every summer and I loved/rode the Thunderbolt roller coaster every time! Yeah, it was rough....I remeber you shaked all the ride long, sometimes bit your tongue, lips, etc...hahaha but that was the way wooden roller coasters were.

    • @crooked-halo
      @crooked-halo 7 місяців тому

      Thunderbolt was in deplorable condition through the 1970s & early 80s. Rough was a severe understatement. In the world of roller coasters as a hobby, Thunderbolt has an endearing, though unfortunate reputation of the worst mechanical condition, little maintenance, and being condemned more than once. My first coaster trip in 82 included Thunderbolt but it was not operating when I arrived. It only ran once in 82 & never again.

      People move on wooded mountainsides in California, Oregon and Washington that have raging wildfires every year.
