This video was published 5 years ago but it's a video I really needed to see today because recently it feels like I can't breathe without someone getting upset and saying it's offensive.
I've recently seen a video of a white _looking_ guy wearing Mexican costumes, hats and a fake mustache. He asked 10 white Americans and they were mostly offended by him "copying others culture". Meanwhile, he went to a Mexican neighborhood, asked 10 Mexicans and all of them liked his costume, none of them was offended.
Or the video where all the white people talk about how it's so hard for black people to get I'd. Yet every black person said it was easy and half of them called those people ignorant. The ones who are oppressed called the people that said there oppressed ignorant just goes to show.
Exactly!! Idk whats up with the "culture appropriation" thing, I am mexican and honestly idgaf if someone puts on a hat and wears a stereotypical mustache, why should I get offended when someone is showing interest in my culture? People do get offended for anything this days 😑 Culture should be something we all can share with others ❤
I am literally diagnosed severe OCD, and I love when people make OCD jokes because it makes me fucking happy and id rather be happy then offended by a joke. One of the famous british comedians mentioned in the video once said "you thought it was offensive, Inthought it was funny, thats why im happier than you"
Very few people are actually being offended by jokes. The "snowflake generation" is a myth. Real "left-wing militants" are concerned about things that actually matter, like income inequality.
@@NikkiLayne Did you like not watch the video? EDIT: Bro someone just told me no one gets offendes by jokes than they deleted their comment after I replied 😂

The most sensible video I've seen for a long time. It's ok to be offended, it's ok not to agree with someone. One day we will all realise that there are more important things to worry about. Love your videos 👍
@Lee Jones I disagree; there are things that are offensive and rightfully so. Being offended sometimes just means you just have skin in the game. However being offended does not make you: good, superior, moral, more/better educated or any of the weird perceptions people who jump to declare themselves offended seem to believe. Being offended on behalf of somebody else is foolish. Telling somebody they can't say something because you are offended, makes you mentally and emotionally weak.
or it makes them sound intelligent, when they know the word RACIST.... That is very true with ESL speaking bar girls trying to give some white guy that they are smart because they know what RACISM is, even if they have never been outside of the shit hole they thrive on. They are smart and therefore they are worth marrying, assuming the white men is bride hunting in a place where beers are cheap, the women are cheaper.
That is how it is beginning to work! Total BS. Who told any of these people they have the right to stop any thing or anyone who offends them?! I just don't know where all this came from
Well i think the feelings are valid. If someone says they are offended then thats fact because its defined by that feeling. And if it offends a large group of people and not just a few. The joke is just offensive

If one is offended by, say, a TV show, one has literally hundreds of other channels to choose from. Or use the "off" feature found on most television sets on the market.
I agree it gets tiresome. My favorite example is not allowing children to have toy guns. My son, at 4 said, uh ok. He then picked up a stick and pretended it was a gun, happily. I was so proud of his creativity.
A man asked a wise Guru: "What is the secret to eternal happiness?" The wise Guru answered: "To not argue with fools." The man says: "I disagree." The wise Guru replied: "Yes, you are right."
In a similar vain... Arguing with an idiot is like playing chess with a pidgin. It doesn't matter how good you are at chess, the pidgin is just going to knock over all the pieces and then strut around like it won the game.
I do think there is a truth to this. but it often moves past that. people work themselves up and begin feeling and thinking that way to a stronger degree

I am a Native American and I often try to make my friends make indian jokes. I find it hilarious. I was offended that the far left crowd told me that I was offended at the Washington Redskins' name. Like idgaf. It actually made me feel proud that my people were a national football team's name and they were internationally recognized. Thought it was pretty neat. I just find it appalling that a group of people that nobody wants tells you when and what you should be offended by when they have literally nothing to do with it. Like nobody asked for it or wanted it. Edit: after receiving notifications for people liking this comment I kind of came back to this topic and it got me to think. Thought it wouldn’t hurt to add a little more. I find it paradoxical that the same group that rallies tirelessly for inclusion is the same group that rallied for the name change. Even if they found the term “Redskin” racist (even though a majority of the people that should’ve had a say in the matter aka actual Native Americans didn’t) it was inclusion of a minority group nonetheless. What they should’ve done if they actually cared like they say they do, is to rally to change the “racist” name to something inclusive yet “not racist” instead of removing it entirely. I feel like it was both a waist of time and energy when no positive outcome came from it. Sure the “racist” name now isn’t there but also the Native American group now has 0 representation.
I lost all respect for the NFL and MLB WHEN they gave in to the bullsh•t. I always wondered if anybody actually asked the Indians what they thought. I would have been proud too! Nobody wants to root for the Washington Pink Panties, or whatever they call them now. They destroyed powerhouse teams and all the history that came before. Such a shame!
@@coldhaven1233 I hate how the people who find certain things "offensive" to minorities" are all heterosexual White people. I mean, the arrogance! They cry about "racism," yet think they're good enough to be our "representatives." For their information, the only thing we ARE offended by is their labeling of us as "minorities," dividing us into separate groups based on our outer appearances, and outright telling us that we're "victims" of some imaginary "system." What is it with identity politics with these people if not about control? If any of these were actually offensive, we would've spoke against this decades ago, but didn't because we're proud of being recognized and portrayed by the world. As long as the team won, that's the most important thing. There was nothing wrong with the Native American girl on the Land O Lakes butter, but, apparently, these "feelings police" apparently assumed that Native Americans were "offended" by this, so removed the girl from all of their labels, which I'm really upset about when I noticed it this year, and so was everybody else in my town, and I always thought it was nice to see a non-White person's face on a good American product. And same goes for other races, too, like these "progressives," for example, removing Uncle Ben's face off of his company (THAT is racist) because, since his skill supposedly had something to do with slavery or whatever they complain about, they think it was "racist" to portray a Black person in a kitchen or something (I don't know. These "social justice warriors" overthink and complicate the simplest things). Same with Aunt Jemima. I mean, they took something bad and turned it into a global business of their own, so it's something to be proud of. What IS offensive is how these people pretty much erased them. Heck, even the one set of grandparents from Rugrats, a CARTOON from the 1990s, generated controversy because, apparently, non-Jewish White people assumed that Jewish-Americans found the characters "offensive" for how stereotypical they were portrayed, even though Jewish-Americans actually thought the characters were hilarious and spot-on with their own grandparents, and that it was done in a very wholesome manner. The reboot of the cartoon is a disaster that never should've happened, not only because you don't change a classic, but because of how "woke" they made it to make it more "realistic/relatable," maybe, but it's just a mess (and the grandparents are now neutral White people, as if canceling their background is somehow more "tolerant"). I'm not Native American myself, but as somebody of East Asian descent, I get this. I don't find anything of this offensive in any way, in fact, a lot of it is funny, such as some Skittles commercial some years ago with the Korean Scot that we actually LOVED (because we never see Koreans in commercials, let alone a funny one like this. My mother's from Korea, and she cracked up when she saw it), and like the Chinese restaurant scene in A Christmas Story, which my whole family, along with all of the other Asian people in our area, finds the funniest part of the movie and always make fun of every year when we watch it around Christmas time, but, when they showed it at school one year, the teacher skipped that part and gave minuses to the boys who were mock-singing "fa ra ra ra ra" while not mentioning me, the only Asian kid, directly, apparently, because I "might" have been "offended" by this, even though I remember laughing along, while my mother told me that when some co-workers did the same during a Christmas party years ago, one of their bosses stepped in to stop it because they were "offending" my mother, the only Asian, even though she wasn't, and she felt bad for being the cause of ruining everybody's fun. If the media cuts that part from the movie, we protest. Didn't mean to rant, but all of this is infuriating. These so-called "enlightened" people are all creating actual victims out of us, people who just do our own thing and don't waste our time getting angry ("offended") over stupid, shallow things, who were never victims until they came along and said we were. But of course, stupid people think they're so much smarter than they really are, and when they feel that something might offend one "minority," first thing is to cancel and criminalize it (read: "might." "Offend." And "ONE." Doesn'tmatter if 1,000 of us "minorities" are okay with something). Sure, bad things happened, but all of that was old history and you can't change it, just move on from it. It didn't happen to US. Only those people can get "offended" by FACTS, which they need to learn to distinguish between OPINIONS (feelings-based, like everything about the Left).
yeah my parents split up a long time ago and i dont get offended when someone makes jokes about "your dad" when its clearly not actually targeted at _me_ or isnt meant to offend

Yawn. The dude conventiently leaves out "education" as a factor, especially "level of education on the topic that people feel they're being called out on". Why? Because being stupid is much easier than being knowledgeable, and most of the cheering supporters of this video are, in fact, stupid. That's why he omitted to talk about "education", since such a factor would eliminate the whole "free speech" trope cliché he keeps rambling about. Easy views, easy likes, easy life. @Mattscool Well bro, first up, the stuff from Gervais that I’ve seen at least, isn’t racial slurs, it is comedy. But if I get offended by something he says, that DOES NOT mean that I am right, and the he then must change his wording, simply because “ I’m offended, so that joke MUST b changed”. That’s what I was getting at....
@Mattscool just no, if you say a topic can't be joked about then that's suppressing people's right to freedom of speech which as he said in the video is pretty fascist and supports Nazi ideals in itself.
@Mattscool but it should be okay because us humans like to humour one another to get over a bad time, for example even though this covid-19 outbreak is pretty bad, me and my family are joking about it as it makes times like these more bearable. You're example of 9/11 jokes they should be aloud if people constantly look back and think that was horrid all the time some people will eventually not want to go on a plane because of if so by making jokes makes it seem like less of an issue than it actually was and that's the point of a lot of humour, to make people forget about the troubles in life by poiniting fun at them.
@Mattscool I think, just my opinion, you should maybe look into some satirical novels or shows, satire ridicules serious things, it ridicules the serious thing it opposes like racism. Ricky Gervais is a satirical comedian, he does not necessarily like racism, even though he makes fun of it.
I used to think Eminem couldn't be knocked down from his throne, then a small rapper came out and said, "Eminem used to gay bash and murder his mom, now he doesn’t want fans if they voted for Trump" and I feel like there's nothing Eminem can do to come back from that blow.

Being "offended" is basically a power play. Being offended puts you in a posturing position of higher authority than the other person. Being offended implies you are the standard in all that is virtuous and holy and anyone who disagrees with you is a deplorable person.
Massive respect for putting out this video amidst the crisis itself...the main problem with today is that social media made it extremely easy for offended idiots from all over the globe to gang up on somebody and yell/threat/complain until the snowball gets big enough...social media made it so that mob justice is once again the norm in our society...for example, think of an 80's group of friends, they come over to a friends house to watch some TV show and an offensive joke comes on, one of them might say "hey that was offensive" and everyone else would say "oh shut up you baby it's just TV"...fast forward to 2018 that single person that was offended can go online and start some bullshit hashtag and wouldn't you know all the social justice warriors available will join the cause...The fact that someone started a petition to ban Matt Damon from any future acting roles because he said that minor sexual harassment, although wrong, is not and should not be treated the same as actual rape cases... The worst thing about it is that 99% of comedy has to have some side offended for it to be actually funny and relatable
It's because people jump to conclusions rather than looking at all the facts to a situation. Also bringing up mistakes that some one made in the past is a weak and cowardly move & people who bring that stuff up. EVERYONE has made a mistake in their lifetime, just like every one is a hypocrite and it just seems that they need to attack some one for their mistakes so they don't have to focus on their own. It's sad really. People in 1st world countries care more about their feelings and offensive words, while real tragedies like malnutrition, disease & poverty are real world problems in a lot of countries around the world. I was always taught to help my fellow man, regardless if we think differently. I don't want any one to die, I don't want any one to get hurt. I believe every one in the world deserves a chance to make some thing of themselves, but many are too afraid and insecure that they won't apply themselves. Why? I wonder. My main guess is because they care too much about what others may think of them. Who cares if some one judges you, who cares is some one doesn't like you. Living your life on the approval of others isn't healthy and only makes the person seem selfish and egotistical. It's not about being right or wrong, it's about working together to not only better the country, but making sure that future generations have a good place to live. It's gotten to the point I won't even bother talking to people I don't know cause I automatically expect the worse out of them cause it seems like at least one person will be offended by any thing you say these days. Perhaps it's the world changing, but I'll always chalk it up to bad parenting.
I have an idea we cancel them all on Twitter because the snowflakes are the loud minority let’s gang up on them and cyber bully them off the internet and thus our lives

This reminds me of a story Patton Oswalt told about how one day he posted to twitter an apology for nothing. It was worded something like "Unreserved apology ... sorry if I caused offence" that kind of thing. The reaction was swift, with people calling what he had done unforgivable, others saying he deserved a chance. Of course, he had done nothing at all, he just wanted to see what people would do.
Tells you how much those that label someone as (insert a terrible trait of choice) research before saying something. The NERVE to say something is unforgivable without knowing...

One of the real problems of comedy is that so many people just do not 'get' irony. A comedian frequently 'hams up' a so-called sensitive subject just to make the point that it really is nonsense to take it seriously. As I have noticed from the comments on several UA-cam videos, many people just do not understand the ironic nature of the video, but treat it as deadly serious. You make a really good point with this video.
Yep, that's true; and it started just after the whole 'P.C. thing' really took off in the late '70s/early 80s. People started standing up for groups other than their own, because it gave them a chance to shout and be heard for once in their lives. After a short while, the bulk of the public realised that these 'nobodies' were just jumping on bandwagons that they had no connection to. Which meant their words/actions were dubious, at best, and held little value or made very little, or no, real contribution to the conversation. Therefore, they had to be 'ultra-serious' and had to get angry-enough to be taken seriously, otherwise their voice meant nothing and they went back to being a 'unheard-of nobody'. Unfortunately, this led to their decriers having to also get angry & serious, thereby starting a vicious cycle that has escalated to the point where everyone's angry & so serious about the smallest thing, that they've forgotten how to laugh WITH other people. But more importantly, they've forgotten how to laugh at THEMSELVES. Let's face it, if you can't even laugh at yourself, how can you laugh at anyone else? These liberal 'P.C.' Dicks have ruined the world. They can't see that some things are so ridiculously gross/bizarre that they can ONLY be seen as comedy and therefore funny.
Wise man! Reminds me of “idol hands do the devils work,” or something like that. Basically means that having nothing productive to invest your time into, leads to destructive behavior/actions
One of my best friends is Jewish. She lost most of her family members during the Holocaust. SHE IS NOT OFFENDED BY THE PUG. She is the one who sent me the video and shared the story. Her words to me? often the people offended aren't part of the community that could be offended, they just feel like they should feel offended for them, I think I'd rather deal with rascist or homophobic than with those peoples honestly
Similar thing with me , I said a joke that went like this: "Dude don't joke about the Holocaust! My great grandfather died at a concentration camp, he was so drunk he fell off one of the watch towers" my German friend found it hilarious he loved it so much but then someone else got offended by who was a white female like bruhhh...
@@neolordie I personally don't want white people making racist jokes because the shit hasn't ended, people are still suffering, I'm pretty sure if the foot was on the shoe they wouldn't want it either. You have to respect people's boundaries.
@@noneya1238 I think the main issue here is that "the ppl that get offended by stuff here" (the "snowflakes") don't understand the difference between "racist jokes" and "jokes making fun of racist ppl and things". They see them as one in the same when they are anything but. That's the problem. Racists jokes are rancid, jokes making fun of racists ppl are funny cause you're laughing at the racist ppl and things, bc they suck - again it's the difference between "laughing at" vs "laughing with" that they don't seem to get, and seem to utterly refuse to recognize to justify using these still real issues, and even past acts of atrocity, as a tool to attack anyone they see as an "easy or socially acceptable target" for their own personal bs that has nothing to do with what they are attacking, and everything to do with what they are pretending to be about. It's toxic and, ironically a "new form of fascism" that makes them even worse than the prejudiced ppl they claim to be against. Bc not only do they claim to know better, they are doing the very things that make a person prejudice : Using them as tools to further their own selfish agendas; BUT while also pretending to be on their side or the side of "the good/correct". They're basically young Karens, nothing more. Thing to note is that a Karen can be any age and any gender, they're not just gen x females. I've known many Karens that were my age when I was a child, and even to this day as being the same age as me still - AND I'M A MILLENNIAL. But I know a lot of them that are boomers, gen z and yes, gen x. It's "a mentality about getting offended about not having your entitlement catered to and enabled", and that's exactly what he's talking about here.

It's been 6 years now, and this video is honestly more relevant than ever.

Idk whats up with the "culture appropriation" thing, I am mexican and honestly idgaf if someone puts on a hat and wears a stereotypical mustache, why should I get offended when someone is showing interest in my culture?
It comes from an epidemic of being offended on others behalf. All that does is silence the voices of those groups of people.
Don't forget the Indians baseball team from Ohio that was renamed because the far left claims you are offended.
I feel exactly the same (I am native american aswell

The Amazing Ricky Gervais: “JUST BECAUSE YOU TAKE OFFENCE AT SOMETHING, DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE RIGHT”.
@Mattscool
Well bro, first up, the stuff from Gervais that I’ve seen at least, isn’t racial slurs, it is comedy. But if I get offended by something he says, that DOES NOT mean that I am right, and the he then must change his wording, simply because “ I’m offended, so that joke MUST b changed”. That’s what I was getting at....
@Mattscool No I do not agree with that.

The worst thing about it is that 99% of comedy has to have some side offended for it to be actually funny and relatable
Too true
Well said.

There's a difference between hate speech and speech that you hate.
-Tom Mcdonald
I really like his songs.
I recommend "fake woke" by Tom as a follow up to this video haha
Did you just quoted Tom Mcdonald 💀💀💀
@@octaviodelrio4192 is the quote wrong?
@@nebula1931 technically yes, If I for example were to say that gay people deserve to go to hell, and a gay person says that they hate what i said, that’s still hate speech.
Hate speech is defined as abusive speech that expresses prejudices against a group, often against marginalized groups, I think that unless you’re a bigot you wouldn’t want hate speech to happen
Thank you for this!
Orwell said "Freedom of speech means you can tell people what they dont want to hear"
At the same time, you have no right to not be criticised for saying offending things
People saying offending things are so damn sentitive these days
david mulligan keep telling yourself that until you realize the only people who you think are important in your life, aren't there anymore.
@@SareySavy Well thats ok also
david mulligan mhm.
david mulligan it means exactly what it means. Mhmm. OK. Alright. Got it. That's it.
This guy is a gentleman. He speaks like a gentleman, he has strong fundamented arguments and sensitive at the same time. (That's probably primitive and offensife for someone out there) But anyway, I'm happy to have seen this, this needs to be shared!

Being offended about everything just makes you a crybaby.
Yes that's what I've been saying to myself and others for years. Live and left live.
Chris28TheGreat u
That's true
The word "crybaby" is offensive to babies!! Im joking

I prefer an open society with absolute freedom of speech. If someone has a problem with me, I want to know about it right up front. I do not want it buried where it will fester and become dangerously toxic.
I was a cancer survivor at a young age
People make cancer jokes around me all the time
and frankly I don't give a shit when they do
It's just a joke people need to calm down
I’m Muslim and I don’t mind trrorist jokes as long as they are genuinely jokes.
Cancer is a pretty heavy topic though so if you were it wouldn’t make you a Debby downer for feeling a way. It’s really case by case but the internet amplifies negativity.
@Chainmaster34 Yeah, it's like the one race that's everyone is racist to.
I wait until something passes rather than while it’s happening, I let the greif go then I strike
I did not realize there was such a thing as a "Cancer joke". I can't think of any.
