  • The Ukrainian military has announced the withdrawal from three settlements in Donetsk as Russia is pushing their forces to the maximum before Western aid can reach the individual units on the frontlines. Russia used cluster munitions to attack civilians in a public park and burned down a law school in Odessa. Tucker Carlson decided to platform and promote Alexandr Dugin and his genocidal and racist ideas.

If it helps with pronunciation at all Jake, there is actually “this one neat trick” in this case. (TLDR: click the audio pronunciation button on G Translate). Type in “English to Ukrainian” on the search engine of the company that owns this platform. In the text box for English, type the English name of the Ukrainian city, term, or person. It will give you a direct transliteration into Cyrillic, instead of a translation. Click the speaker button in the Ukrainian box. It will give you a fairly good audio pronunciation. Extremely useful… I use this all the time for words I’m uncertain about. Since the start of the war, they’ve made Ukrainian a primary language of development, and it’s extremely accurate.

@@Mikeb8134That’s the ideal situation, and what they’re moving toward. An armistice and withdrawal, when Putin feels the pressure, might be a more likely outcome. Making any sort of deal with them seems repugnant, I know, but a desperate Putin might try to cut most of their losses, and opt for something they can spin as a Pyrrhic victory…

Most Russians scapegoat the Germans for their losses in WWII, when it was mostly Stalin throwing meat waves of poorly armed soldiers at the Germans to soak up their ammo with their bodies

Well, I (a German) have heard that from numerous people from Poland, Hungary or Romania.
One reason might be that we only managed to occupy those countries for a couple of years and were 'a bit busy' by fighting a World War on several fronts while the Soviet occupation lasted for more than 40 years and the Soviet Army and Police had mostly nothing else to do than 'find a final solution for minority XYZ'.
Another reason could be that while the Nazis murdered millions of people (who in return after the war weren't alive enough to complain about their 'special treatment'), the German secret police did not realy have any interest in what political view a random Greek, Pole or Hungarian on the street had - their main interest was maintaining order, keep resources flowing to Germany and, as I mentioned, murdering those minorities they deemed 'subhumans'.

Russia interfered and invaded Georgia way before they turned on Ukraine. Massive ethnic cleansing by Russian backed separatists and the western world didn't blink. Then Russia invaded in 2008. Invaded Ukraine in 2014 and the west coughed slightly but opened the gas valves. Georgia has been off everyone's radar because it is small, it has no oil, and can be traded off on 'realpolitik'. However, Georgia is one sweet nation, and its people are the most generous Europeans I have come across. I hope that they are not invaded again by the imperialists in order to 'save them' from the decadent west.

His initial campaign to get his job was funded in part by an Russian-owned (but EU based, I think) energy company. A conflict of interest, in my opinion (granted the law school I went to wasn't in the US), because Louisiana has a big oil and gas industry. Also, the Tula arms company (largest small arms manufacturer in Russia) donated to him. Even if it were not for the situation here in Ukraine, his loyalties are suspect.

Only thing I can figure is the US wanted it to drag out for as long as possible but then I can't figure that one out either. Did someone actually think that Putin would eventually get tired, pick up his toys and go home or were they figuring on the Ukrainians just eventually folding? Neither one was ever going to happen. Instead of covering the negative of Ukrainian men of fighting age not returning to Ukraine. Is to cover the amazing men of an all volunteer unit of "over 60 year olds" Ukrainians, which also includes younger men who have been ruled unfit to fight that are fighting the Orcs, they are not part of the Ukrainian military therefore do not receive a salary. These seniors are incredibly fit. This has been covered with interviews and videos on various media outlets.
Taran's all-volunteer unit, the Steppe Wolves, which is comprised of dozens of Ukrainian men mostly over 60 years old, who are considered too old to be drafted but still want to fight.
Roving behind the front line with truck-mounted rocket launchers, they take orders from field commanders and work with other troops, contributing to the war effort despite lacking official support from the military.
The unit is funded by donations and stocked with faulty rounds they repair themselves as well as weapons captured from the enemy. Both are delivered to them by front-line troops.
In their base in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, they were preparing 122mm Grad rocket rounds that were later fired by troops from another unit.
Taran, the commander, whose call sign is "Grandpa", said his unit has been attempting to officially join Ukraine's armed forces to directly receive ammunition - and salaries - but has been unsuccessful.

There's a lot of Russians here (Ukrainian citizens but Russian), who dream of the USSR restored - even young people who have to rely on the stories of their parents and grandparents' glory days as Soviet masters of this land. Conversely, the people who were in the middle or nationalist-leaning at the start have become more so, because they see how awful life would be under Russia (witness Bucha, Mariupol, kidnapped children etc.). Even if we lost the industrial battlefield, Russia would never have a pacified Ukraine to govern. There would be resistance, fed by arms which would have friendly borders to cross. @@lewisgreenway5065 Before beginning training to use something, it's essential to be certain that you will actually give it to them. Then, it takes time to assemble and organize the people and resources. You have to accommodate them in training programs. It's not something they can do with a snap of the fingers; it requires time.
The training to become a pilot in the U.S. military, specifically the Air Force, involves several steps and can take around 1 to 2 years¹²³⁴. Here's a general timeline:
      1. **Officer Training**: This includes completing the Officer Training School (OTS), Air Force Academy (AFA), or Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC)¹².
      2. **Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT)**: This is the actual flight training phase and it lasts about 1 year¹².
      3. **Advanced Flight Training**: Upon completion of UPT and receiving an aircraft assignment (also known as seat assignment), pilots continue flight training for the specific aircraft they were assigned. This can take an additional six months to one year¹.
Please note that these durations are approximate and can vary based on a number of factors. Also, after the training, pilots are typically required to serve a certain number of years in active duty service⁴.

It takes at least one year to train on a new military aircraft type to learn how to fly it, and at least another 6 months of operational training to learn how to fly it in battle. So almost 2 years is about right for transitioning from Soviet era fighters to the F-16.

I would suggest the similarities are not with Germany in 1939, in terms of Russia's behaviour. Rather, they are like Russia's behaviour 1917-1945 in terms of how they took over Ukraine, the Baltics, and eventually all of east and central Europe. Step by step, treaty by broken, lying treaty, followed by another war, another few provinces, etc.
