Hey Taylor 👋🏻 I'm heading up to lake superior this spring/summer and was wondering if Minnesota has a lb per year limit for hounding!?! Sick kinda btw 🔥
Yes! I would like to see it cut into slices. Maybe 4 slices, so we can see how the color bands travels throughout the agate. I think there may be some Jasper hiding in there too. Please Cut!!! Thank you!
It is heaven to me to go to a Great Lake and hound for rocks. Dear, I’m almost 75 and went hounding last year on Michigan, Erie, Huron and Superior. I took a lot of videos on my phone and can go back clearly, any time I wish. So many wonderful stones to find and tumble.
Can we just appreciate the multitasking of babysitting the view cube, holding mr scoopy, and filming all at the same time 👍 and also not appreciate autocorrect that causes multiple edits to a simple comment lol
Honestly, I would have loved for you to cut the big agate into slabs and turned it into a bunch of cabochons. I think moss agates make great cabochons. Great video, I love seeing your personal finds!
Eventually you will collect enough of these big stones that you didn't want to cut and they will end up in a pile outside somewhere. My vote is to go ahead and cut them, you never know what the inside holds until you cut them open! My favorite stone you cut today was the little red oolitic jasper, that one would make some really awesome cabs!
Ah, the many years my husband & I spent the happiest memories looking for rocks in Lake Superior! I miss him and your video brought him back to me tonight♥, thanks!
A good collection of interesting inclusions. My favorite one for sure is the Oolitic Jasper. So vibrant and rich in colour. Great video Taylor and kudos for you for being outside in the cold weather!
This should be interesting. I was out with the dog search my local beach this morning and found identical stones here on the Isle of Wight. Towards the end of Yaverland beach there is loads. Very much mossy looking in some cases.
@ I just need to finish building our new kitchen(currently residing in the garage waiting to be built) then start on the garage refurb so I can start tumbling these beauties 😂😂
I don't know why, but I just love your channel!! 😂 I had a huge rock collection as a kid. Maybe I'm just reliving my childhood!! Lol, your joy is so contagious!! Thank you Agate Dad!! For hours of joy and peace in this crazy world!! ❤
The red one looks kinda like dino bone. The feldspar one looks awesome 👍😎❤ You some how made them all gorgeous. The waxy quartz agates are gorgeous and people would love them. Thank you for sharing ❤
That piece of green Coca Cola bottle is from a Christmas Coke bottle. There's lots of glass Christmas coke bottles with different stories behind their coloration, most of them being producedaroundChristmas. Some of the vintage ones are ridiculously expensive to collecters. The original 1800s Coke bottle was green as well. 8:54 Looks like a Montana Treasure State Agate. 12:32 Amygdoloidal rhyolite. Basically galaxy stone in rhyolite instead of basalt. 20:10 looks like fossil soup potentially.. Thanks for the fun hounding Taylor.
As a child I used to rock hunt with my cousin right near the Mississippi River, in Sauk Raids. Beautiful agates! Used to dig them out of the blacktop! Find them in the ditches. I lived in Colorado later and loved all the rocks I found here too.. even found a small piece of tour quotes in a stream! You are Nuts for hunting in the winter in the lake!!
Hi, Taylor! Lots of interesting finds.👍Agree with you, let that Champion agate better sleep in your museum of rocks.😊 Loved that wonderful red mossy jasper too.❤ POS. The landscape around is so beautiful, love winter.
Makes me want to go out looking for rocks. I was a little rockhound when I was a kid. I enjoy these videos so much I even look at the rocks in my old Virginia driveway, which dates back to the 1770s. 😄 I haven't found much of anything, though.
Awesome video! I got really curious about why you said "I´m never gonna cut this one ever ever". Is it bc it´s so nice on the outside or bc you know what´s inside isnt worth it?
Great finds! I love the mystery stones - so many cool features in them. I wonder if they are some type of fossil, or maybe amygdules in host rock...not matter what they are fantastic. I think the small water level with quartz would make nice matching pendants. The big one is super cool, I agree its most likely a moss agate, the thick yellow portions do look a bit like chert or jasper and I love the texture. Anyway another great video - hope to see you out on the beaches some time!
I always wonder what you do with all the rocks. Like porphory(spelling?), would love to hear you talk about the different rocks, what you do with them and why. Love your rockhounding videos! Thank you for sharing! ❤
2 lb Agate Slab it out! Slab it out! Slab it out!!!!! Please and thank you! I can imagine some really interesting cabs being cut from a stone like that, and with your new macro lense we could all see them really well!
Thanks for the chilly adventure Taylor. 🥶😃 It's always fun to tag along. I DO have a quick question: Is there a specific reason that you choose NOT to cut certain agates? (Like the one that weighed nearly 3 lbs.) Are they often more beautiful on the outside? Or is it just a personal preference to leave it in tact?
Taylor, it’s always an adventure on Lake Superior!!I appreciate your safety because she can be cruel. I’m going to try a winter LS search soon. I may need my own choppers! I have my view cube, warm clothes, and scoop (not scoopy😢). I hope to see you out in the wild!!
5:15 Your safety concerns are well founded. But also easily overcome ...attach it firmly at the plastic & to yourself with a slipknot, leaving a large tab to pull in the event you need a quick release. 550 ParaCord to the rescue!
Does your cube fog up? Do you use an antifog on it? Thinking you could tie a cord to the handle, put a carabiner on the and and fasten it to your waders so it doesn't float away when you need 2 hands for something else.
I LOVE your channel and will be going back through to watch as many as I can!. You really seem to know your stones. Our favorite beach is at Muskellonge Lake State Park. We have so many rocks from Lake Superior decorating our home, I can’t even tell you! I have a couple stones we found in Grand Marais, MN that look suspiciously like Thomsonite, but I haven’t been able to get them identified. Would you possibly be willing to take a look…or maybe direct me who to contact?
That was a pretty cool video. Some great finds. I would have cut it. LoL. I was wondering do you ever tumble rocks? You had some nice ones in today's video that would tumble very good.
I’m really enjoying your videos! Need any from the American River in the heart of the Golden state’s gold area? I’m a professional fine pencil artist and wouldn’t get my fingers near a saw but if you’d like any, tell me! I’m in Fair Oaks! Thanks for your content!
♥ you can just use a dog leash for the "look under water cube" easy to get of if needed ♥ ... but you are right i prefer the cube leaving you... instead of bringing you in Danger in any way ♥
I have a few like yours that look like agates, and am assuming they are. Haven’t cut them open for fear of disappointment. They do have some swirl patterns and waxiness to them. I just keep them whole for the mystery.
I heard you say MUD FOSSILS, I’ve never heard that before so I had to look it up. Ive been collecting artifacts for about 4-5 years now and have a lot of rocks like I see you and others on here cutting open. I learned about 2 years ago that some rock artifacts are what’s called PORTABLE ROCK ART or they call them EFFIGIES, which is something you should look up sometime. When I see you guys cut some of them in half, it’s actually pretty cool to see the inside and still be able to see carving. Not everything was a tool, some were made as offerings or for trade. It took me some time to actually see more then one thing carved in it, there are usually multiple things carved in them. I find mine here in Virginia in a river that butts up to a farm where we know for sure there were Native Americans, and I’m sure people before them. I have a huge 17x11 carved horse head, it’s 13 pounds and one that is a bear head, NO MISTAKING them for river rocks!! I just wanted to mention it, thanks for the new video! Always like to see what’s inside!!
Oh my! Im going nuts sitting here watching these agates NOT being cut. If you don't cut them, you will NEVER know. Why hang on to it & NOT know. You found it for a reason & its NOT to sit on a shelf & you & everyone else always wonder what beauty it holds. Please Please Please Thats why you are AGATE DAD SHOW US THE AGATES, DAD!!
One day you need to cut an agate in half, and then cut those halves in half again, to get 4 quarters. That way we can see what it would look like if you had cut it in the other direction!
I say Mr. Taylor that the chances of that large nodule being am agate are high! My girlfriend and I find interesting "gems" like that here in central MN all the time but alas no saw as of yet..but some day Mr. Taylor....someday I m going to get that lapidary saw and won't stop until my arms fall off (or the first rock I try to do and I badly cut myself and then I say OK I'm done....😢 lol
If you like this video, you’ll definitely like my last Rockhounding video! ua-cam.com/video/d3mRFVpS5dc/v-deo.html
@12:40 would make a beautiful wallpaper
Hey Taylor 👋🏻 I'm heading up to lake superior this spring/summer and was wondering if Minnesota has a lb per year limit for hounding!?! Sick kinda btw 🔥
"TETHER" YOUR VIEW CUBE with a thin nylon rope, so it doesn't float away from you, and, you are running after it, in the water!
Is anyone else screaming on the inside "CUT IT! CUT IT! CUT IT!" Or is it just me? 😂
I was and a bit disappointed he didn’t tbh 😢
Saaame! Cut the rock!!!
Yes! I would like to see it cut into slices. Maybe 4 slices, so we can see how the color bands travels throughout the agate. I think there may be some Jasper hiding in there too. Please Cut!!! Thank you!
Yes!!! I was like… what??? You’re NOT cutting it!?!
I stayed up later than I should have so I could see the inside of that rock!! 😢
I'm 81 years old but after watching your show I'm tempted to tie my kitchen sieve to my cane and head up to Lake Erie!☺️🤔👵
Do it and be safe!
It is heaven to me to go to a Great Lake and hound for rocks. Dear, I’m almost 75 and went hounding last year on Michigan, Erie, Huron and Superior. I took a lot of videos on my phone and can go back clearly, any time I wish.

I wish I could join you!
Can we just appreciate the multitasking of babysitting the view cube, holding mr scoopy, and filming all at the same time 👍 and also not appreciate autocorrect that causes multiple edits to a simple comment lol
Thank you, I feel seen 🤣🤣🤣
And it's cold !!! 😂 love watching.. thanks for explaining your 'lack of tethering' !
Honestly, I would have loved for you to cut the big agate into slabs and turned it into a bunch of cabochons. I think moss agates make great cabochons. Great video, I love seeing your personal finds!
Hello from PEI 🇨🇦. I watched some of your videos with my grandsons. After the rocks were cut open, the boys screamed with delight at the colours.
Eventually you will collect enough of these big stones that you didn't want to cut and they will end up in a pile outside somewhere. Thanks for the adventure! Great show! 😊❤
If you heat up the agate to about 200° after it dries and warms to room temps then apply the mineral oil, it will soak in and have a really nice shine
That’s a good tip, thanks!
I don't know why, but I just love your channel!! 😂 I had a huge rock collection as a kid. Maybe I'm just reliving my childhood!! Lol, your joy is so contagious!! Thank you Agate Dad!! For hours of joy and peace in this crazy world!! ❤
I’m a student at UMD. If you’d ever like to look for agates together, that would be very fun!
Maybe we will run into each other on the beaches!

It’s one of my bigger ones that’s actually pretty lol hard to cut
@AgateDad totally get it. I have a collection and soon will acquire my saw. Dude... Some of my favs I'm pretty sure I won't cut ever

I'd have to cut the big one. My curiosity would get the better of me
Another awesome adventure. Thanks for taking us along. I love me some porphyry too. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it

Beautiful porphory, and I love the galaxy stones! I agree, that big one looks like a moss agate. Nice finds! 😊
those jaspers look like they are on fire! 🤩
ahhhhhh yes the rock addiction is kicking in with those shaky Fingers 😂 just kidding🤭
Just cold lol
@AgateDad ❤️
I kind of like the cut mossy Agate you used as an example of why not to cut. It had lots of interesting things inside it!
I love those grey brown spotted rocks. Those are super pretty

I can’t wait for agate dad to start scuba diving for Lake Superior agates.
Sounds fun! 🥶
Enjoyed the show.
Do you ever shine an ultraviolet light on your geodes/agates?
Thanks Agate Dad
Sometimes, not much for reactions though
This looks cold!🥶
If that red jasper was found in Utah, I would be convinced it was a gem bone.
It’s so similar
The second cut kind of looked like travertine.
You are a gutsy guy wading in Superior in January! Thank you.

check that bottle piece of glass under UV it is maybe Uraline!
That was a pretty cool video. Some great finds. I would have cut it. LoL. I was wondering do you ever tumble rocks? You had some nice ones in today's video that would tumble very good.
What a great job and what fun. I would cut off the bump and follow the rounded top to finish the cab. Try to stay warm and keep having fun. 😷⚒️🤪
Those tinies would make cool earring studs!
The Yellowstone-orange rock is pretty. Whether it is or not an agate, I’d still love to have that in my garden. 😮❤
It’s an agate :)
Glad you put your gloves on!
🇨🇦 Scoopy is the cutest 😂
Nice finds!❤
Love the agate in basalt host rock!!! How did you stay warm? It was -38 wind chill today at my house..
Awesome finds. What if you put an anchor on your cube that's heavy enough to hold it in place but not a burden to move with you. Thanks for sharing.
It’s too much work lol
@AgateDad 🤣🤣
The big agate you found could be Sarder, a reddish brown variety of calcedony. Nice one. Congrats 👍
We don’t have sardonix here
I love Jasper. I have a few pieces that have a similar patern
Someone brought me back a piece of porphry from the Faroe islands. Has some calcite as well.
Magnets or velcro would allow emergency release. :) You're always a fun watch, dude. Cheers from a fellow Minnesotan.
That there is a legit good idea! Thanks bro!
Congrats!! I found a 1 pounder in the Mississippi years ago.
That's awesome!
where did you purchase your scoop for picking up rocks?
Pretty

Oh man,I'm like a kid at Christmas, then you didn't cute it😮.
Looks like an ultrasound
Will you be adding multiple layers of mineral oil to the agates you kept? Also, will you ever venture into rock tumbling?
Over time yeah
the one on minute marker 20:03 its amazing!!!
I have a few like yours that look like agates, and am assuming they are. Haven’t cut them open for fear of disappointment. They do have some swirl patterns and waxiness to them. I just keep them whole for the mystery.

4:25 did you say a no no word? 😅😂😂
Beach glass?
@AgateDad no it sounded like you edited out somthing. Sorry I watch with headphones in and just sounded like your mic cut out.
Do you have any itty bitty rocks from Scotland? I'd like to find one to wire wrap into a necklace...
The last mystery rock you cut might make some pretty polished cabs.
I understand that traditional LSA culture says, "Don't cut it." But it's no prize the way it sits, and needs to opened up to expose that inner beauty!
I think it’s a prize lol
The last pophery looks like a meteor shower.
Yes!!
What type blade do you use on your high tech saw. I go thru a lot of blades
I use the hi tech Diamond blades
@ Thank you.
I get confused about agates. Some say they have to be translucent, some say they have to have bands. How to determine its an agate?
Oh my! Im going nuts sitting here watching these agates NOT being cut. If you don't cut them, you will NEVER know. Why hang on to it & NOT know. You found it for a reason & its NOT to sit on a shelf & you & everyone else always wonder what beauty it holds.

Your view cube needs a leash😂 So does scoopy 😂
Never mind, you explained why not 😂❤😂

What do you do with all your agate?
Cut polish display :)
Looks cold, not for me. 🥶
