This is my favorite concert band song ever. 1st chair trombone in eighth grade. It's extremely beautiful like the rest of Bach's compositions. John Greene, directed this band at Falcon Ridge Middle School. Mr. Greene has won many band director awards and was named band director of the year at least once. This concert was his last concert before retirement in May of 2015. It's a great honor to be in his last concert.
First Trumpet, Freshman year. This song has been stuck with me for the past week or two after playing it once. I’m so thankful for getting a good part with this.
I always listen to the key mechanism click when desecending....on the Bassoon part, I played Sax on this back in 1976 in Competition and went on too state with the size of our band. at that time!
I was first chair (B flat Trumpet) in our HS Concert Band for statewide band, and we won with this. Well over 4 decades ago--loved playing it then and hearing it now, thanks. Larry
@FearlessJesusFreak this is the recording by the Belwin band though, this is not my band. We did play this a lot faster and in cut time in the second part.
I play first horn on this piece. Beautifully arranged, absolutely love playing it, not too hard either. The little soli at the end is fun!! 0:45 is definately one of the best parts of the piece.
@Daniel Zhu Trombones As we know them weren't revolutionized quite yet but they existed. People were more into the Warm/ mellow sound of a baritone at the time.
This brings back memories. This piece was what my 8th grade band played for state concert festival. It was hard, but honestly rewarding looking back on it
Played Euph on this. Sophomore right now and first year on it, made it into Honor band (audition to get into group for my school district and rehearse for 2 days and a concert on 2nd day) and this was the most fun I've had to far! We played this at like 1.5x speed, which was *waaay* faster than I practiced it.
One of my favorite pieces of all time! I think playing this versus just hearing it gives a person a different feeling than just listening to it. Being inside the sound is amazing! Wish I could find this piece by a band on itunes.
1st trumpet right here! Ugh, this piece was just amazing to play. When I did play it back in 9th grade, the rest of the trumpets weren't so experienced...Needless to say our band would start playing and one by one the trumpets would all get lost and stop playing until it was just me and one other. It really pissed off out band teacher, no doubt about that, haha! Obviously they learned it with time. But yeah, no, this piece is gorgeous and I loved playing it!
We're playing this right now in my High School Concert Band, I love it. I play first clarinet and, even though the high notes are annoying and super hard to hit at times, I think this piece is amazing :D
oh i totaly agree. i play bass clarinet(next year contralto!!!) and at the beginning i get to play a forte low E. andd the first ending in the prelude..it's awsommee
We just played this at our band concert, minus the repeats in the prelude and the slow tempo in the Fugue, but it still was a wonderful arrangement. Go Bass Clarinets!
@Marissa223Marie When I was in high school band back in 1970, we did this as part of the winter concert. After going to a "Bach Bowl" concert at Emory University where several preludes & fugues were played on harpisochord, I had to find this and see if it's what I remember, which I do.
Thanks....so many students in this generation don't know the difference between a " song"... which is a piece of music for voice and a composition. .which this is....They are corrupted by Sotify which calls everything a "song".
hen we did the trombone solo al SCBDA all state, they made us do it as a section. and wee played it twice as fast at about 140, so it was actually fun!!!
@@micheleandbenburkley5875 Lmao that isn't totally wrong, especially in an orchestra l setting. However, tuba has a very important role in the band or orchestra. You play?

**Sees the sheet music**
Crap.
Tickle Pickle story of my experience with this piece
Is the crap because it's 1st cornet and not trumpet or because you don't like your part?
Tickle Pickle first trumpet was actually pretty easy
2nd trumpet was a lot more fun. Big ups to Holly Bertran! Finn Hill Jr
I’m violin sheet music number 2
to whom it may concern, this piece originally written for organ was called Prelude and Fugue in C Major BWV 553, not to be confused with the BWV 846.
1st Trombone here, that solo towards the end kills my vibe every time I try to play it.
it’s easy...
@@zusrecall1086 I mean, I've figured it out now. No need to worry.
Our trombones are terrible at that so we have it to the 1st chair trombone and two baritones
This song is awesome!!! LaGrange High School Band in Georgia is playing this for LGPE! Go tenor saxophone!!!!

@FearlessJesusFreak this is the recording by the Belwin band though, this is not my band. We did play this a lot faster and in cut time in the second part.
