WHOA THANKS FOR WATCHING! This was experimental as much as a tutorial also running through LOFI comp mfx so it has a unique unconventional tone over the whole mix. Here's a link to the MC707 BOOT CAMP playlist! (I will be adding more episodes to it as I create them!) ua-cam.com/play/PLQvVnhG7o2yROeK4Muj4CGv3fTX5Z6iMV.html&si=d7U1N2qXBSnba3oA
Holy duck, been a 707 user for 3 years and never realised how powerful the scatter options are, thanks for your education series, I've learned many things and I thought I had a good understanding already 🤣
Woah! You are the first person I've ever seen feed midi from a machine back into itself. That is a sick hack that I never in a million years would have tried. Thanks for these videos, they are awesome, I've been putting some serious time into the 707 lately and thought I had checked out all of it's nooks and cranny’s but you have been on a deep, deep mission my friend- thanks again, really appreciate the time you took and your attention to detail.
Thank you! I definitely tried to get as many details as possible! I scoured the internet for tips and tricks and also spent hours preparing for the video! Also can sequence from external gear :) cool stuff!
@@RonCavagnaro Yeah, it shows and these are great videos. I've been teaching myself to play the 707 more as an instrument than to use it as a DAW in a box, if that makes sense and some of the ideas you've shown here have sparked a lot of inspiration. Don't get me wrong, I love the holistic/build a song universe the 707 embodies but it really does have an understated pep in it's step. One of the ways I've started to use it, which took a bit of trial and error and leg work is that i have my RC600 running in and out of the send/returns. I have it so that track 8 is normalled/dedicated to the the RC600. I've sacrifed the Delay Send, so that any of the other seven tracks can be sent to the looper just by turning the knob labeled 'FX'. Not sure if I'm explaining this clearly - you could call it a workaround, because I've hijacked the Delay send in orfer to do this but the fact that I can do it at all is really, really cool. I love how kind of open sourced, for lack of a better term, roland has built this thing ( and the same can be said for the RC600.) The one thing i'm hoping gets added in a future update, but I doubt they will is being able to send cc#'s commands via the 707. its awesome that it can send program change messages per clip, though I haven't gotten to using that yet. Have you tried it? Have you been sending cc#'s to the 707? I've also uet to try this but plan to. Thanks again and sorry if I'm overloading you with questions, just that you are the first person I've come across that is approaching this box with a similar mind set to mine.
@@RonCavagnaro oh, the other question was if you had tried sending cc#'s to the 707 via an external device ( as you mentioned using an external device to sequence)? I'm specifically wondering if we can get under the hood of the synth engine. I'm pretty sure as a work around you could map the 4 system controls to the knobs of an external device and set those system controls to whatever four parameters you wanted via the Matrix but I haven't gotten to trying that.
I bought a MC-707 when it first came out but sold it a year later when its limitations back then were too much to keep. But now with all the updates and this new knowledge thanks to this video regarding the power of Scatter I just re-bought it today lol.
I have 2 thumbs on my hands but can only give you 1 here on UA-cam. Again, your 707 videos are a gold mine. Digging deeper for the richness of the this instrument 👍
I can’t wait to go back and watch from the start Ron. Just jumped in. I enjoyed your past videos for some useful tips and shortcuts, even after making 20 chained ‘songs’ in the past year or so..
Roland really does understand how performance devices should be done right. I'll caveat that by saying you have to spend a fair bit of time learning all the obscure key combos. The SP MKII is like playing Mortal Combat.
Thanks a lot!, MC-707 is a powerful hands on Groovebox capable of doing a lot of things, sadly tutorials online are decent but in-depth, thanks for this! Helps a lot
Thank you for the deep insights! I think most of the time the scatter stuff sounds horrible, but at least i can give it a shot myself now. Great stuff!
@@RonCavagnaro right around 21:00. You discuss it but I'm still confused hahaha. It must have been added in an update cuz its not in the manual. thanks.
@@iiaaiiaannaaiiaaii oh that, yeah it just is like solo just the fx you pick so if theres other fx programmed and you limit it to one of them thats all that will occur.
Would love to see something about using the arp, as it is confusing the heck out of me. At least it seems to only work when playing live; as far as I can tell entering chords and then turning on the arp does nothing, which makes it much less useful. But maybe I am missing something.
Thank you man! For some unfathomable reason Roland is still either not capable or unwilling to properly explain how Scatter works , years and years after the unit was released. I always thought, there's a ton of possibility with this stuff, but lacked the time and patience to find out how to get musical results from it by trial and error.

This video deserves more views. It the single best one for the scatter function. Brought my DnB game to the next level. Respect and love ❤🔥🤙

I had no idea about instantly changing the clip direction. That's a great trick!
Glad to help thanks!!
Nice job. You open New world for me. 👍
Looking forward to reviewing this fully. I have sadly neglected exploring these scatter parameters, looks very cool!
Thank you very much, this is incredibly helpful.

Or just use Sugarbytes Turnado or Effetrix! 😜
26:57 it would be more useful if it can sequence scatter *directly* per clip.
Agreed, but this is what we got :/
