Police are trained to subdue, civilians typical go for a kill. This might be the reasoning why Leon (originally in the concept art was straight thuggin) would kill someone with ease because he’s not following the orders he’s yet to be taught. Kenneth probably was afraid of getting kicked off the force so he did everything he could that would be right in front a judge.

Rebecca would be upstairs to the left with Richard, not downstairs towards the right dining hall, where Kenneth is. My primary argument against Rebecca as given is that Yarn is located in the East Wing upstairs, not the West Wing of the mansion. Everyone in STARS would be experienced enough to know which direction a shot originated from, yet *everyone* turns to the West, not the East. In the original release you could argue Rebecca, since she was located in the West Wing Medical Room on the 1st floor, which would be in the correct direction. It's also possible (if you take the events of Umbrella Chronicles as being mostly factual even though they are now non-cannon for various reasons) the shot heard was during the initial Rebecca/Richard battle with Yarn, which was a running battle that did partially take place in the West Wing of the Mansion.
Kenneth looked like he was still alive(barely of course) during the cutscene, also too fresh for it to have been 2 hours after the tape. Most likely it’s just a continuity error or the shot could’ve come from Rebecca and his tape could’ve been shortly before Alpha team entered the mansion

I'm going with Chris/Barry. We see in the opening scene that they can run out of bullets, with Jills handgun running out. Chris does have a gun outside. So maybe in Jill's scenario Chris doesn't make it in, one shots a dog with his last bullet and that's what we hear. We "check it out" Weaker runs outside to kidnap Chris. Chris' scenario will be in the comments.
In Chris's scenario, Barry is the gun shot we hear. Barry's family is held hostage, so Barry must do everything Wesker says. So maybe Barry's job is to help separate Chris from Jill and Wesker. Wesker "kidnaps" Jill, leaving her gun (on purpose or by accident) in the room.

i think you may have over looked the distance between both areas in the mansion and how the shot would sound coming from upstairs , and coming from the same floor , but it sounds spot on when ur rolling the umbrella chronicles story to RE1 remake.
An easy way to tell who fired the shot is the sound effects of firing a weapon in game as the Wii could have reused sound bits from the remake and they both run on the same engine

During the scene where Kenneth is being eaten, his blood is dripping off of the zombie's mouth. That means his death had to be pretty recent. Blood pools to the lowest part of the body within a few hrs after death and becomes a big ol block of jell-o.

It's a shot from Kenneth though. They got confused with the progression of the events (especially with the remake and that video recording from Kenneth), but both the blood and the shot were supposed to be from Kenneth's encounter with that zombie.
Maybe he pressed play on the recorder while still running away and previously got bitten in the dining room before going to the room he gets killed off in?
My theory is that depending what character you choose is the one giving the shoot (if you choose Chris Jill shooted, if you choose Jill then Chris shooted)
It could have been an oversight of the developers. But, in order to make sense out of everything, perhaps Enrico and Kenneth were together initially. That Zombie could have initially attacked Enrico first...After all, he did have that wound when running into him later in the game. He was probably behind Kenneth, shouted something to the effect of “heads up” but Enrico himself ducked into the dining room. Therefore the blood found in the dining room. According to Kenneths video, it can easily be assumed that the zombie is teeter tottering around the door that leads to the dining room, but then focuses his attention on Kenneth. Kenneth fires at Zombie, meanwhile Enrico is probably listening to all the commotion from dining room, hoping that Kenneth neutralized the situation because maybe Enrico only has about 1 or 2 shots left in his weapon for all we know. Enrico goes back out into hallway to investigate. Unfortunately Kenneth didn’t win. Enrico fires into the darkness where the zombie is eating Kenneth, maybe hoping that Kenneth still has a chance at survival, but soon realizes it’s too late, so he then proceeds down the hall without looking back, and tries to find another location in the mansion to lay low for the time being. Idk, just kind of going by the seat of my pants here.
According to Kenneths video, You can almost see the zombie trying to get into the dining room first like he was following his initial target, but then diverts his focus towards Kenneth.
So here is a theory.. still think it is Kenneth but he shot the zombie 3 times prior to the team entering the hallway. He survived this long by hiding and was surprised by the zombie in the hallway. His final shot was because the gun was in his hand an dhis body was twitching when you find it so he was already getting munched and he constricted and shot as he was being eaten when they came in and his camera broje

I enjoyed the video but being a nerd I need to nitpick a small throwaway line you had. Kenneth tape isn't a VHS. VHS is an analog format but the found tape is digital, it says on it Digital Video Cassette. These cassettes are also known as a Mini DV tapes because they are small in size and meant for a smaller camera. For it to be a VHS Kenneth would have needed one to be carrying around one of those huge 1980's camcorders. They did make smaller cameras in the analog format but those tapes would say on them Hi-8 or Super-8 or something similar. VHS isn't the only analog format. They also have Betamax. So calling every video cassette a VHS would be like calling every video game a Nintendo tape. I know none of this is important, just having fun. The game itself uses not the best terminology by calling it a film. A film is usually something actually shot on film, or a commonly accepted term for any movie no matter the format it is shot on. Calling a short home video clip a film is kinda weird.

Explain the gunshot in the OG 96 version then. Since you didnt meet rebecca at Richard's side. You met her in the medical save room. Also where are you getting the date they showed up in the mansion. Since bravo team helicopter crashed. It easily could have been close to the 24th when bravo team made it into the mansion. I'm gonna also go with an oversight on the devs team when adding the shots to Kenneth's death.
I hate to say it, I don’t believe it was an oversight by the Developers at all. Capcom was sure to be very detailed in the remake of the Resident Evil games. That being said, I also don’t think it was Rebecca either and here’s why: Given the location of the gunshot, the second floor, East wing, with as many shut doors between the grand main room and the Snake toon, as well as how loud a Bretts 9mm is, I don’t believe the echo would actually reach the group. And, if it did, it would not be nearly as loud. I also don’t believe it was Barry due to the sound a revolver makes. It’s far stronger. With that, there are still other characters from Bravo such as Enrico who could have taken a slight roundabout way to get to the outside area. Keep in mind, Wesker prevents the player from exiting the front door. The group, possibly, could have passed by Enrico in the forest while he was running to the side/rear of the mansion (until we finally meet with him). Another question is: what happened to Kenneth’s firearm? His body is relatively fresh when we run into him at first. I doubt it was his first encounter with a zombie as he was already separated from the team for X amount of hours. For all we know, Kenneth and any of the 3 remaining Bravo members could have been together as well and Kenneth was surprised by the zombie. Given the location of the attack (middle of the hallway) we may not have heard the first 4 shots and only the last as it was the final one before he lost his life. If Kenneth was with someone, that second person could have also taken Kenneth’s firearm while he was being eaten and ran off before the player could arrive while giving Kenneth a “mercy kill” so he wouldn’t come back as an undead. I say that as Kenneth never becomes a zombie. Forest, Edward, Brad all turned into zombies so that’s not beyond the scope either. There’s plenty of holes in my perspective, but I also believe they are within the realm of possibility.
My theories were that it was Rebecca or Richard. My favorite is Rebecca shooting the snake. It sounds really far away and it's possible that they walked in the mansion at the third shot and that's why they only heard one. Chris or Barry is a popular theory but it's too subjective and situational.
I like RE0 more then RE1 & don’t forget about captain Enrico he’s also been in the mansion I think cause he’s been in secret areas but found in the caverns wounded then Killed by Wesker, so it would been his gun fire since you can see that he’s always been carrying a handgun in RE0 & probably still had it in RE1 so for my opinion it had to be Enrico.
This is not too hard to explain, why do you think there's blood in the dining room? so Kenny was attacked in the dining room, by the time of the video he's already wounded, so the hall are still pretty far, so right when Barry/Jill enter the dining hall= that was the time of death The dining room is right next to the hall and should produce more sound when next to it. when the tea room was already two walls
Wesker killed Enrique, so everyone always assume that he was the traitor that the guy was talking about... but while it is possible that Enrique could have simply spotted Wesker doing some fishy things at the Mansion, the way he was talking about it and if we consider who he is... it is far more likely that he was talking about a member of the bravo team... Rebecca Chambers. Now while there have been a (horribly crappy) CG movie showing us Rebecca when she was older... and there was that game RE0 that seem to want to explain what happened... neither of these actually prove anything, rather they seem to actually support the idea that Rebecca was an Umbrella agent. So how do you explain it? Well, the movie is easy, it was crap and the writers likely weren't even privy to the original intents that the creators of the original game had... so the movie can be seen as non-canon... and even then, nothing in the movie actually disproves that Rebecca was working for Umbrella. So what about the RE0 game then? We saw what happened there and it proved that Rebecca wasn't a spy! Well, that is just the thing... it didn't. It didn't show us what happened and how she actually ended up in that room in the Mansion... and... frankly I'd argue that nothing in that game happened. The creators of that game even created a bonus game where you as Wesker and Rebecca hunt leeches. A red eyed Rebecca dressed in a sexy leather outfit! She is basically depicted as a female version of Wesker there. That was just for fun though right? But was it? Consider this: the Leech hunt was in part in fact what really happened. Rebecca was sent by Umbrella to collect the research in the mansion and the facilities closeby. Wesker was not told about this (but he probably figured it out)... So what was that game then? It was bad writing. Also, it was probably a story that she later told Chris and Jill.
I'd argue that it was a mistake on the devs, since Kenneth is still twitching when the zombie is eating him.

Perhaps Billy Coen arrived at the mansion after Resident Evil 0 and the shot is of his making maybe to himself after getting bitten and that is why we do not see him in other games.
I love theories and mysteries like this and this video was really neat. I don’t think it would be Forest due to him being found dead in the east wing, and the shot is heard from the west wing of the mansion. Kenneth is more likely, and the Rebecca theory is interesting!
It's a shot from Kenneth though. They got confused with the progression of the events (especially with the remake and that video recording from Kenneth), but both the blood and the shot were supposed to be from Kenneth's encounter with that zombie.
Maybe he pressed play on the recorder while still running away and previously got bitten in the dining room before going to the room he gets killed off in?

My theory is that depending what character you choose is the one giving the shoot (if you choose Chris Jill shooted, if you choose Jill then Chris shooted)
It could have been an oversight of the developers. But, in order to make sense out of everything, perhaps Enrico and Kenneth were together initially. That Zombie could have initially attacked Enrico first...After all, he did have that wound when running into him later in the game. He was probably behind Kenneth, shouted something to the effect of “heads up” but Enrico himself ducked into the dining room. Therefore the blood found in the dining room. According to Kenneths video, it can easily be assumed that the zombie is teeter tottering around the door that leads to the dining room, but then focuses his attention on Kenneth. Kenneth fires at Zombie, meanwhile Enrico is probably listening to all the commotion from dining room, hoping that Kenneth neutralized the situation because maybe Enrico only has about 1 or 2 shots left in his weapon for all we know. Enrico goes back out into hallway to investigate. Unfortunately Kenneth didn’t win. Enrico fires into the darkness where the zombie is eating Kenneth, maybe hoping that Kenneth still has a chance at survival, but soon realizes it’s too late, so he then proceeds down the hall without looking back, and tries to find another location in the mansion to lay low for the time being. Idk, just kind of going by the seat of my pants here.
According to Kenneths video, You can almost see the zombie trying to get into the dining room first like he was following his initial target, but then diverts his focus towards Kenneth.
So here is a theory.. still think it is Kenneth but he shot the zombie 3 times prior to the team entering the hallway. He survived this long by hiding and was surprised by the zombie in the hallway. His final shot was because the gun was in his hand an dhis body was twitching when you find it so he was already getting munched and he constricted and shot as he was being eaten when they came in and his camera broje
When someone shots once. It's probably because it's against a human. You'll need much more for one single zombie
In all honesty I think it was one of the Cerberus catching up to them and slamming in to the door given you aren't supposed to open it

It was Rebbeca. Instead of grabbing the first aid in her pouch she accidentally pulls the trigger on her hand gun. She is still pumped up from her side mission from RE Zero
Why is the Rebecca/Richard snake fight scene in the library where you fight him the second time instead of in the attic where you meet Richard and Rebecca? Weird oversight.
Most people would think it was kenneth, but we have no proof it was him, it also could have been Rebecca or Enrico but we have no proof of them as well, it's a great mystery to keep us thinking 🤔

I, too, miss VHS, but that looks like a Hi8 Cassette.
I enjoyed the video but being a nerd I need to nitpick a small throwaway line you had. Kenneth tape isn't a VHS. VHS is an analog format but the found tape is digital, it says on it Digital Video Cassette. These cassettes are also known as a Mini DV tapes because they are small in size and meant for a smaller camera. For it to be a VHS Kenneth would have needed one to be carrying around one of those huge 1980's camcorders. They did make smaller cameras in the analog format but those tapes would say on them Hi-8 or Super-8 or something similar.
VHS isn't the only analog format. They also have Betamax. So calling every video cassette a VHS would be like calling every video game a Nintendo tape. I know none of this is important, just having fun. The game itself uses not the best terminology by calling it a film. A film is usually something actually shot on film, or a commonly accepted term for any movie no matter the format it is shot on. Calling a short home video clip a film is kinda weird.

Explain the gunshot in the OG 96 version then. Since you didnt meet rebecca at Richard's side. You met her in the medical save room. Also where are you getting the date they showed up in the mansion. Since bravo team helicopter crashed. It easily could have been close to the 24th when bravo team made it into the mansion. I'm gonna also go with an oversight on the devs team when adding the shots to Kenneth's death.

I hate to say it, I don’t believe it was an oversight by the Developers at all. Capcom was sure to be very detailed in the remake of the Resident Evil games. That being said, I also don’t think it was Rebecca either and here’s why:
Given the location of the gunshot, the second floor, East wing, with as many shut doors between the grand main room and the Snake toon, as well as how loud a Bretts 9mm is, I don’t believe the echo would actually reach the group. And, if it did, it would not be nearly as loud.
I also don’t believe it was Barry due to the sound a revolver makes. It’s far stronger.
With that, there are still other characters from Bravo such as Enrico who could have taken a slight roundabout way to get to the outside area. Keep in mind, Wesker prevents the player from exiting the front door. The group, possibly, could have passed by Enrico in the forest while he was running to the side/rear of the mansion (until we finally meet with him).
Another question is: what happened to Kenneth’s firearm?
His body is relatively fresh when we run into him at first. I doubt it was his first encounter with a zombie as he was already separated from the team for X amount of hours.
For all we know, Kenneth and any of the 3 remaining Bravo members could have been together as well and Kenneth was surprised by the zombie. Given the location of the attack (middle of the hallway) we may not have heard the first 4 shots and only the last as it was the final one before he lost his life.
If Kenneth was with someone, that second person could have also taken Kenneth’s firearm while he was being eaten and ran off before the player could arrive while giving Kenneth a “mercy kill” so he wouldn’t come back as an undead. I say that as Kenneth never becomes a zombie. Forest, Edward, Brad all turned into zombies so that’s not beyond the scope either.
There’s plenty of holes in my perspective, but I also believe they are within the realm of possibility.
It was Kenneth as shown in Umbrella Chronicles - I think that they hear the last shot.

My theories were that it was Rebecca or Richard. My favorite is Rebecca shooting the snake. It sounds really far away and it's possible that they walked in the mansion at the third shot and that's why they only heard one. Chris or Barry is a popular theory but it's too subjective and situational.

I like RE0 more then RE1 & don’t forget about captain Enrico he’s also been in the mansion I think cause he’s been in secret areas but found in the caverns wounded then Killed by Wesker, so it would been his gun fire since you can see that he’s always been carrying a handgun in RE0 & probably still had it in RE1 so for my opinion it had to be Enrico.

This is not too hard to explain, why do you think there's blood in the dining room? so Kenny was attacked in the dining room, by the time of the video he's already wounded, so the hall are still pretty far, so right when Barry/Jill enter the dining hall= that was the time of death
The dining room is right next to the hall and should produce more sound when next to it. when the tea room was already two walls

Wesker killed Enrique, so everyone always assume that he was the traitor that the guy was talking about... but while it is possible that Enrique could have simply spotted Wesker doing some fishy things at the Mansion, the way he was talking about it and if we consider who he is... it is far more likely that he was talking about a member of the bravo team... Rebecca Chambers.
Now while there have been a (horribly crappy) CG movie showing us Rebecca when she was older... and there was that game RE0 that seem to want to explain what happened... neither of these actually prove anything, rather they seem to actually support the idea that Rebecca was an Umbrella agent.
So how do you explain it? Well, the movie is easy, it was crap and the writers likely weren't even privy to the original intents that the creators of the original game had... so the movie can be seen as non-canon... and even then, nothing in the movie actually disproves that Rebecca was working for Umbrella.
So what about the RE0 game then? We saw what happened there and it proved that Rebecca wasn't a spy! Well, that is just the thing... it didn't. It didn't show us what happened and how she actually ended up in that room in the Mansion... and... frankly I'd argue that nothing in that game happened. The creators of that game even created a bonus game where you as Wesker and Rebecca hunt leeches. A red eyed Rebecca dressed in a sexy leather outfit! She is basically depicted as a female version of Wesker there. That was just for fun though right?
But was it? Consider this: the Leech hunt was in part in fact what really happened. Rebecca was sent by Umbrella to collect the research in the mansion and the facilities closeby. Wesker was not told about this (but he probably figured it out)...
So what was that game then?
It was bad writing. Also, it was probably a story that she later told Chris and Jill.
