Very interesting. I've seen documentaries on the preservation and conservation before, but picked up a few new things here. Now I'd love to see a documentary on the film acquisition process.
Excellent, fascinating video👌Brings home the sheer physicality of the medium. The lugging of cans; the unravelling of the film onto the spindles; the lifting, shunting and unspooling. And seeing the corrosive material, literally eating through the film cans - far less the film stock! - is wild. The celluloid literally breathing out moisture, and soaking in its own fluids. The sweat, tears and joy of restoring film is really quite something. Oscar's passion here is infectious! I love that he loves film cans; that he loves films so we can!
Oscar's Favourite movies: Mask of the Flesh-Demons 1976 Revenge of the Bloodgoblins, Part 2 1981? Grave Stoned (420 Rock Edition 1993 Orgy Fight: Slowkill 1979 Original Camera Sedative aka Don't look ahead to your own death 1986 Devil Massacre 1968 Bloodfist 6 1982 Alien Kill 1985 Rampage of Evil 1964 Would probably be cool flicks, if they were real.
Poor Dave never had a chance. I have a 35mm film print of an Indianapolis action film Forgive Me Father (Ivan Rogers, 2001), but don’t have the capacity to store it long term. Trying to donate it to an archive, but the university I’m talking to right now is slow rolling everything. Hoping I don’t ruin it from my poor ability to take care of it. I’ve been collecting as much Ivan Rogers material as I can because he was an interesting black film maker in my city, but haven’t tracked down any negatives or other prints.
This was fascinating. I always wondered about the story behind your name, very clever. 😄 I'd love to see more videos about film restoration and preservation. You guys are awesome!
This was great. I will forever praise Vinegar Syndrome, if only because you saving and releasing "Luther The Geek". The company does a great job with your releases. On a side note, all your representatives I have met at conventions selling your films are always very nice.
Doing a fantastic work! This is the reason why i'm a subscriber. Not only do i get rare and interesting movies every month but i also chip in on preserving stuff
Wonderful video. Thank you for all the hard work you do to preserve these works of art, to honor all those that worked on them, and preserving these windows into history!
Vinegar Syndrome really knows what their doing when comes to film restoration. Major film studios hire them to restore films because they have earned such a great name in the film industry for the great work they do. I purchased the Toxic Avenger 4k boxset a while back and they did the entire collection, anyone who buys their films can see the phenomenal work and love they put into the preservation of cinema.
Stage 3? Eh, just throw some Film Guard on it...Good as new! lol. This was a great video with lots of insight. I second the person who said they want to see a video about your acquisition process next.
been a cheerleader for VS 8yrs or so awesome Mom & Pop US Distributor i wish they did a documentary on the Label itself (They’ve been around 10yrs and have changed the landscape of Physical media/Collecting there print restoration is truly important for preservation 👍👍👍
SORRY, I was a little slow when you kept saying Acetic Acid, which goes by the household name of VINEGAR. Where does the acid come from? Is it part of the plastic that becomes acidic, the photo sensitive layer?
I think the best part of working for Vinegar Syndrome would be that before restoring them, you get to watch the movies on the original film before hand. There's something about watching old movies in the original 35mm that makes my heart beat quicker...all the scratches and eye floaters jumping around, and when there's no dialogue or noises from the movie, you can hear the film crackling over the sound system like somebody's got a fire going in the fire place. For a special feature in a future disk, you guys should just transfer the film as you found it...tail leader included.
Loved it now let's see some actual movies being stored there. Or a peek in your physical store as a dutch man i'll never set a foot inside to far of course. But e every month a docu like this yes please.
That last thing you said is not true, in future we can hopefully live as a cyborg or have complete body change operation and Galaxy isnt going anywhere and your films either because If they are preserved right and go on internet and all so your opinion is not true
I wish VS would get more access to our beloved films. They do a better job than anyone else.

Wonderful video. Thank you for all the hard work you do to preserve these works of art, to honor all those that worked on them, and preserving these windows into history!

This is wonderful. It's all about the passion of keeping these films alive.
Loved it. Keep em coming with more knowledge about the process please.
This was excellent! Awesome bit of insight that definitely helps justify the cost. Love the product and the work you guys do.
I loved this! I’m very interested in film preservation but I didn’t know much about it. Thanks VS team!

Good to know our favorite films are in the hands of Edward Norton! "You've seen these films. Haven't you, my man?"
Yeah I think he looks like a late 90's Edward Norton too!
Evil Ed?
Lol informative and funny as hell. You guys should put restoration footage of whatever movie you are restoring on the special features dvd. Please!!
Heat increases the rate of ANY chemical reaction...so that little demo is spot on, dude!
Excellent work, gentlemen.

I hope that is a SECRET SUBLIMINAL CLUE for an upcoming release!
This was a fascinating peek at your process, thanks for the inside look! Also....Mr. Goodbar???
It was just a coincidence.
Did anyone notice a flash of list of oscars favourite films towards the end of this?
Yeah. Spells mr goodbar. Thought it was a reference to the movie.
I tried to freeze it but I’m watching on my phone and I couldn’t get it frame by frame.
SORRY, I was a little slow when you kept saying Acetic Acid, which goes by the household name of VINEGAR. Where does the acid come from? Is it part of the plastic that becomes acidic, the photo sensitive layer?
This sounds like it was shot on not enough sleep in a fun way.
Fascinating! I love the work you guys do, thankyou 😊
Do you also scan 16mm or exclusively 35mm films?
Wait a minute. So the film cans don't come in glossy slipcovers with newly commissioned artwork? wtf?
Oscar loves MrGoodbar
How awesome. You guys rule!
Definitely a labour of love.
Yes! Finally some love for Revenge of the Bloodgoblins 2!!!

You are a beautiful, beautiful nerd.
Also, yes. Good bar indeed. Indeed.

I've always wondered why you named yourselves after what is basically your enemy.
Loved it now let's see some actual movies being stored there.

All film will eventually vanish? Nope. Not a digital version of it.
Kinda the whole point of using computers for cleanup and restoration.
Can u guys up your slipcover numbers. Alot of your stuff selling out too fast and it's annoying >:(
That last thing you said is not true, in future we can hopefully live as a cyborg or have complete body change operation and Galaxy isnt going anywhere and your films either because If they are preserved right and go on internet and all so your opinion is not true
