Reminds of something you said a while back, move slowly but never stop moving.
The lyra-8 never stops moving; it appears to be the king of subtly shifting textures.
I love my Lyra 8. I put a drum machine through the external input, tune the voices to a bunch of pitches and spend hours just making "dronescapes". I'm saving up for the Pulsar as well, since I think it will make the perfect partner for the Lyra. It's quite a liberating experience to get away from the conventions of the normal music I make, and I think that's totally what Vlad Kreimer hoped to inspire with his unorthodox creations.
I can't wait to start running external sources through it. I think I might need to start saving for a pulsar too... I was hoping having the lyra would distract me from it but it's only made the longing greater. I'm also feeling a great pull towards the Enner too...
@@OscillatorSink Probably the best combination with a Lyra that I've seen is this one with a Moog Subharmicon: ua-cam.com/video/1RI4xg58Z_s/v-deo.html
The performer hasn't uploaded anything else, so the quality of this one video both audibly and visually is so intriguing!
So, it is possible to tune the voices?
Each voice has a dedicated pitch knob, and each quartet of voices has a master pitch knob on top of that.
Love how you open with flipping the power switch.
I love how the Lyra's circuits wake up, especially if you have the delay engaged - sounds like a robot sighing.
I’m so happy you got one and are posting great content already! It’s a lovely synth
It's a really unique and wonderful instrument.
Lovely, my friend. Simply lovely.
Thank you!
Wow, gorgeous. Gritty and hauntingly pretty work.
Thank you!
Oh yes…….👏👏🎶 The king of drones now has the king of drone machines. Let the magic commence……
I hope I can live up to expectations!
Sounds great, ! please do more with Lyra
Thank you, and you can bet that I will! What a special instrument it is.
@@OscillatorSink I can confirm, lyra 8 with grone drone and chase bliss generation loss recall perfect together ... they are all special together
@@gracecore I can imagine that's a great pairing. I have some effects pairings in mind to try. Shame I've lent my microcosm out at the moment.
the correct colour for this occult device.
This. This is beautiful
Thank you so much!
Very nice sounds. Reminds me of the band Godspeed You! Black Emperor :)
Thank you - a nice comparison too!
omg this comment makes me buying a Lyra 8
I want one of these so bad it hurts! Another beautiful creation sir! Keep it up :)
Thank you! It's a very inspiring instrument, so it's leading me to interesting places musically. I really need to sit down and examine what it is that draws me to certain instruments, because it's tricky to find a common thread between my favourites.
From a fellow Lyra 8 player - very nice work! I wasn't even sure the ambient backing was coming from the instrument until the end when you backed off the HOLD. You have an interesting technique with a very light touch, and the glissando was brilliant.
Thank you! With the voices set to fast I found that I could balance the Hold control to have them drone quietly in the background and still be able to play each notef to have it pop out. The gentle "circular motion" playing was inspired by something the manual mentioned - that by making contact briefly multiple times you can get a longer attack in fast mode. I'm barely making contact when I'm doing it and it seems to do the trick.
@@OscillatorSink That is definitely a useful tip to remember. Perhaps I should re-read the manual :)
@@macronencer reading the manual is my secret technique. It's what this whole channel is built upon.
@@OscillatorSink I tend to do that too! I read the entire Bitwig manual from cover to cover :)
@@macronencer the manual is forbidden knowledge - let no one know.
id lover to hear your thoughts about this instrument. really nicely done !!
Once I've gathered my thoughts, I will have lots to say in sure.
I can hear my pocket complaining again! I must have one of these.
I resisted for so long. It's a very esoteric instrument, but extremely inspiring if it's your kind of thing.
Yesssssss
Yes.
I have bought and sold 2 of them, but for some reason I am thinking of getting another one........ Why is it still haunting me!
My advice, as someone who has done that with other gear in the past - don't buy another. There's no shame in not gelling with an instrument, it shouldn't reflect badly on you. Not everyone likes the same flavour of ice-cream, and the lyra-8 is a pretty niche flavour.
I bought one, kept it for a year, sold it and buy another one a week later :) it seems to happend with a lot of other users too. I'll keep it this time, just as i'd keep an old guitar, or an old piano, just to play with it from times to times
Very nice sounding congrats ! Almost too good for a youtube video :)
Cheers, very kind!
Nice, great technique. Does it have much post? It seems pretty clean
Do you mean post-processing? Other than a gentle mid scoop EQ and a master limiter (which isn't being touched) you're hearing the raw output.
@@OscillatorSink yeah, that's what I thought. It's beautiful
@@Lcrymlgy the raw tone of the oscillators and the way that the delay and distortion interact with everything is a truely wonderful thing.
@@OscillatorSink i know. I've got the same color, and as we all know, that's really important in a lyra 8
This unit sounds incredibly organic!😳😳. Big fan of ambient and long drones pieces, I do really think purchasing one… coupled with a huge reverb (big sky or microcosm), do you think we could reach some Steve Roach moods? Thanks!
I haven't even begun to process the output yet, but I think that placing it into different artificial (or real) spaces is going to be especially exciting. The idea of combining it with (and using it to process) field recordings is also high on my agenda.
@@OscillatorSink Hi 👋, the Lyra-8 has recently gone into my dream gear list after actually paying proper attention to it in the last couple of weeks on UA-cam… does it have an audio in Jack that you can then mangle and manipulate the audio going into it?! Blimey the possibilities 🙏🏻🙏🏻😃
It does - you can route audio through the delay and distortion (and through some of the modulation modes also have the external audio affect the state of the lyra.
@@OscillatorSink OMG I'm so going to get one when £ allows 🙂
awesome dense drone here.......................(only one complaint - this sounds to be just Mono to me)............otherwise awesome............
I wish the lyra-8 was stereo, but sadly not. I'll be exploring using delay and reverb to widen the sound in later studies.
I understand. I have a few friends with Lyra's.......I'm just saying that most 'ambient' uploads here on YT are done with stereo fx, etc.......
Absolutely, but I wanted to begin by documenting the raw tonality of the Lyra-8. Stereo fx definitely incoming - stereo movement is usually an absolute requirement for me, so this took restraint!
great idea..............no I understand...... recently, I've had a few friends here on YT, who didn't even realize that their set up wasn't recording stereo, (a recent change in their set up) so I'm always 'putting it out there'........
