It's not that unusual in contests that allows more players than the strict formation. Compositions have become more demanding on the upper register. A 2nd soprano may often be used to help the upper solo cornet parts, so that the principal can focus more on the solo parts. He can also assist the "main" soprano to let him shine on the important stuff. From ancient times is especially demanding.
Wow. I've never seen such humongous mutes. I didn't even think brass that low would make a useful sound with a mute. And they were all playing soft, so I couldn't even tell what sound it was making. Well, one learns new things every day. 🙂
Fantastic, the best brass band of the world! A fan from Italy

Interesting to see another Soprano cornet in the front row. Even the best bands use some tricks:)

It's not a soprano cornet, it's the principal cornet, using a Bb cornet as usual 😌
@@mathieubaude2545 front row, 5th man uses a Sop.
@@mathieubaude2545 "5th man" down is playing on a Soprano cornet. You can see it @3:47 for example

Robert Schumann Quote : Composing something real unique is writing down a melody/set of notes that no one else ever had done before.... ♫♪
