I would love to see UFC have 5 or more judges. One from each major background in MMA and wildcards whether it be ex UFC fighters or people who have analyzed the sport for many years. As well as better defined structure for the scoring system in general.
you need ex fighters who know aren't biased(to a discipline or fighter) at all and who need to watch fights in a vacuum so probably someone like herb dean
I said something pretty similar to what you said. And dana can more than afford to pay retired fighters. Share the wealth the fighters made UFC. With no fighters no PPV MONEY.

Jacob Saunders he never said the decision was wrong. Who doesn’t agree that there should be different judges? What, are YOU going to say to Max “yeah we need different judges but you definitely lost your fight”? Fuck no, it’s not even necessary.
Max claims that the people disagreeing with him are "volkanovski fans" but the reality is that everyone who isn't close to max on a personal level says that max got outclassed. Yes, even his own fans.
I think what he is saying in the heat of the battle he thought he won. I can imagine your sense of winning a fight on 5 close rounds of intense battle could easily be misinterupted. Give the guy a break.
@@filbertovandette i think we all have a different view of what being outclassed means. To me it means losing every round of a 5 round fight, and Holloway did just that imo. We can sit here all day and argue about the topic but it really won't get us anywhere so let us agree to disagree.
Joe during the fight: Alex clearly won Joe during the Max interview: We need a more comprehensive system For fuck’s sake have some integrity and stick to your analysis. Alex outclassed him in multiple dimensions, end of.
@@ExtremelyAverageMonster exactly what I was thinking and Alex might not have hurt him badly with a punch but he was definitely landing the cleaner harder punches in most rounds. I love max but hate seeing the denial and Joe just being typical Joe 😂
The fight stats are available, 47% of Alex's landed strikes were leg kicks. Max landed 134 to Alex's 157, 75 of which were leg kicks. To say leg kkcks didn't win the fight is concering levels of denial.
Max needs to learn that its more than just leg kicks that out pointed him, but how it threw his rhythm off from his crazy pace. That disrupted his style and interrupted his rhythm of aggression and frustrated him.
Tennessee Charles it’s called talking about the fucking fight. What else are we supposed to do after a god damned fight ? Golf clap the fighters and wait in silence for the next one ?
@Crazy Cletus yes brother. I love max, but suggesting that it was anyway close, that he wasnt hurt... cmon. why did he switch stance, why didnt max pull off a max and swarm him. because he was fucked up.
The commission needs to stop telling judges to not score rounds 10-10 even though it's allowed under the unified rules, I feel like 50-46/47 to Volk would be a fairer score.
i love holloway but he's definitely downplaying those leg kicks lol. he had to switch to south paw in the first round, and the dude looked out of rhythm the majority of the fight and fought at a much slower pace than he usually does. those kicks were significant.
To be honest ive never been a fan of max’s style. Theres something off. I’ve never seen someone use leg kicks on Max and never even thought of it(even Aldo). As soon as I saw volkanovski using leg kicks it was a ‘woah’ moment and I knew immediately he won it. The fact he is downplaying the strategy as if he was gunning for points is a bit hypocritical too.
It's essential the judges aren't friends (or not friends) with either contestant. Joe and DC know too many of the top guys to judge their fights. They should get older, retired UFC fighters to do it who are impartial.
Round 1 both fighters landed the same amount of significant strikes, but because of the late flash knockdown you give it to Max. Round 2 Volk landed 1 more significant strikes, but again because of a late flash knockdown you give it to Max. Round 3 Volk landed 25 significant strikes to 15, Round 4 Volk landed 34 significant strikes to 24, Round 5 Volk landed 37 significant strikes to 23. Max had nothing for him in the last 3 rounds. 48-47 Volkanovski
Hard part about ex fighters or superfans judging fights is that they're more susceptible to bias. Not that I don't want better judging, but it would be hard to keep everyone objective in that scenario
Yeah Max is a nice guy, but I feel he’s not giving Alex the credit he deserves. He not only landed leg kicks but counter almost every punch Max threw on him. He shot down Max strategic and didn’t let him land anything significant really.
So much respect for Max! 👊💥⚡💯 This man is a real class act! Although he lost, he lost a close fight to a very skilled, strong & determined opponent but he didn't get injured and he's still young. He will be back! He gained just as much respect from me in this loss as he did in any of his wins!
Evan Landry no, Max didn’t blame the judges. He said that, during the fight, he thought he won, but when he watched the reply afterwards he saw how he lost. It’s very easy to be discombobulated while in the midst of a match.
ALiBi212x I watched a documentary on Chris Eubank and after he won a controversial points decision against Tom Watson, he said Tom won the fight, a fighter knows (in the documentary not straight after the fight)
I would think someone who got their head bashed in for a long time wouldnt be a great judge lol. Also their would be obvious bias like if one of the judges trained with a fighter and are close. I'm not saying no retired fighters could do it but it's a risk
As koolaid said above, there's a lot of potential for bias there. Imagine if a former fighter was tasked with judging a Colby fight, for example, and this judge was apart of Usman's gym, the Blackzillians, when he was still a fighter. There's going to be some bias there, even if the judge wasn't conscious of it...
It's probably more difficult to buy out ex fighters turned judges than regular people since they might be too experienced and passionate about the sport. 😊👍
That's why they're pundits because they become bias in some way whether it's to the style of fighting or the fighter in particular and it doesn't really matter in punditry. An ex fighter who's mainly a striker will be bias towards strikes ect.
Who doesn’t just love Max? What a fantastic ambassador for combat sports. I mean, he’s a fierce competitor, a gifted fighter and just the coolest and most mellow dude. Total badass🤘🏻
@@Syakirin57 yeah not at all I didn't take it that way I mean Alex will be a great roll model just like Max, Khabib, and Usman we actually have some really great champs at the moment
Exactly what I've been saying. These judges never did train or fight a day in their life and they shouldn't judge. Let someone who actually fought like ex fighters be the judges cause they know more
problem with ex fighters being judges is they would favor fighterz with the same style of fighting/discipline and give those more points then things they didnt seem damaging or like..
Thought the same thing. Funny that this is the least amount of damage Max has taken in a fight but he ended up losing the title. Speaks to Alex and his team for a great game plan. We don't need to beat him. We can expose a lack of activity and defending leg kicks to an easy decision. They studied his fights carefully and definitely executed what they did in training camp.
As a person who knew volkanovski personally throughout highschool.. i dont ever recall him being 240lbs.. 214lbs is much more accurate.. around the 98 - 100kg
Max doing really good in his life for someone coming from Waianae good inspiration and motivation for young boys to stay away from trouble and put energy into something good
i think max looked a little gun shy since the poirier fight. easy for me to say, but felt like if he let his hands go more, he could have ran away with it.
Daddy Dana nah. Volks leg kicks were throwing him off since max fights heavy on his lead leg. Take away his lead leg max gets thrown off but if max readjust he’ll be king again.
@Isak Dahl exactly why i said what i said. where max did take risks and stepped into range to exchange he was getting the better of it. It seemed like for a moment volkanovski was close to being pushed over the edge
Alexander Volkanovski performed incredibly, but he used 3 very specific weapons designed directly at Max Holloway's style. Expected, as Max was on the top of the heap for so long. The same way Max used 2-3 specific weapons to conclusively beat Jose Aldo who had been at the top of the heap even longer. This means that if Max and his team can figure those out, he should have a shot. 1. A LOT of feints. Max's defense is to step/lean back from strikes instead of blocking/parrying or moving his head, a lot like GGG. A sustained use of effective feints (shrug the shoulder, the 'death glare' at the target spots, a half-step in, etc) can interrupt his volume and make him reset. 2. Stance-shifting advances. Volk would put his guard up, step forward into southpaw, and step again into orthodox. This made Max back off and reset every time he was starting to gain momentum. It has to be combined with feints and actual strikes occasionally to be convincing, but it worked. 3. Limiting the exchanges. If you exchange with Max, just like with Tony Ferguson or Nick Diaz, you will win some but eventually lose, because their volume and pace will almost certainly beat yours. Just like Gaethje did to Ferguson, Volk didn't throw that much but threw in specific spots aimed at interrupting the volume/pressure fighter's flow. When they were apart, Volk constantly threw leg kicks. When they were in close, Volk bobbed and weaved with a tight high guard, and threw counters in combination, which interrupted Max's own strikes, and then he got out. So Max was never really able to get the ball rolling, while Volk scored often from out far, and occasionally from in close. If Max can check the leg kicks more, or stay even further apart when they're at long range, he can take that weapon away somewhat. Or, he can bite down and keep the pressure up and constantly attack the body in order to crowd Volk (the way Ferguson did to Pettis, Cowboy, RDA, etc), he definitely has a good shot at victory. It's the most interesting stylistic matchup of the fight island card, can;t wait to see it
Fighters need to know each rd scored during rests so they can adjust, and not trust their yes man corners. The end rds would be different in my opinion.
Round 1 both fighters landed the same amount of significant strikes, but because of the late flash knockdown you give it to Max. Do you score for strikes that are basically taps(and do no damage) the whole judging thing NEEDS to be fixed.

Have you ever sparred before or fought amateur? When you’re in the moment it really is hard to tell if you’re losing or winning. I get what Max is saying, especially because it was a very technical back and forth kind of fight. He didn’t get hit hard other than a few leg kicks. It’s understandable that he thought he won the fight at the time, because he did land the bigger punches (which is the game he knows best) to the head and body.

The scoring system sucks when one of Joe’s crushes like Holloway loses……he’s never said the scoring system is shit after any of Max’s wins
That is great but it's the commission who appointment judges. Good luck with each state appointing 5 judges who actually have knowledge in fighting.
I agree to an extent, you never know who’s buddies, who trained together, or who is enemies.
I said something pretty similar to what you said. And dana can more than afford to pay retired fighters. Share the wealth the fighters made UFC. With no fighters no PPV MONEY.
@@My_Bow_L.Y.F the only issue is the UFC has nothing to do with the judges. Each are state appointed and paid.
Joe you’ve seem to have forgotten that in your call on the fight every time Alex kicked or body shots he landed you keep saying that was money in the bank. That’s why Alex won stop blaming the judges
Joe's a tool, sucks Up to Holloway here but states clearly he thought Alex won the fight During the fight! He's a dumbass
He didn't say the decision was wrong. He said the leg kicks done the damage here if you LISTEN
Jacob Saunders he never said the decision was wrong. Who doesn’t agree that there should be different judges? What, are YOU going to say to Max “yeah we need different judges but you definitely lost your fight”? Fuck no, it’s not even necessary.
The number of idiots here who comment without actually listening to what they’re commenting on is disturbing.
All class from max
Max claims that the people disagreeing with him are "volkanovski fans" but the reality is that everyone who isn't close to max on a personal level says that max got outclassed. Yes, even his own fans.
I think what he is saying in the heat of the battle he thought he won. I can imagine your sense of winning a fight on 5 close rounds of intense battle could easily be misinterupted. Give the guy a break.
I think he's talking about the fans that got upset about what he said. And alot of them were fans of volk.
Outclassed is a stretch. Alex simply had a better game plan and executed it perfectly.
he lost...yes...outclassed....no
@@filbertovandette i think we all have a different view of what being outclassed means. To me it means losing every round of a 5 round fight, and Holloway did just that imo. We can sit here all day and argue about the topic but it really won't get us anywhere so let us agree to disagree.
Joe during the fight: Alex clearly won
Joe during the Max interview: We need a more comprehensive system
For fuck’s sake have some integrity and stick to your analysis. Alex outclassed him in multiple dimensions, end of.
Even the way Max doesn't really give Alex the credit for out striking him
Pretending like all of the striking was leg kicks is concerning levels of denial.
@@ExtremelyAverageMonster exactly what I was thinking and Alex might not have hurt him badly with a punch but he was definitely landing the cleaner harder punches in most rounds. I love max but hate seeing the denial and Joe just being typical Joe 😂
Just because Joe wants to reform the judging doesn't mean he disagrees with the decision.
The fight stats are available, 47% of Alex's landed strikes were leg kicks.
Max landed 134 to Alex's 157, 75 of which were leg kicks.
To say leg kkcks didn't win the fight is concering levels of denial.
Max All Class Holloway
Max is a true mma fighter, he takes wins and losses really well, he just wants to fight.
Max lost 50-45. it was not Even close
That judge is shit
@Crazy Cletus yeah that's my point judges need to be fired
@Crazy Cletus yes brother. I love max, but suggesting that it was anyway close, that he wasnt hurt... cmon. why did he switch stance, why didnt max pull off a max and swarm him. because he was fucked up.
tech gamer I only gave max round 5 and that’s it
The commission needs to stop telling judges to not score rounds 10-10 even though it's allowed under the unified rules, I feel like 50-46/47 to Volk would be a fairer score.
i love holloway but he's definitely downplaying those leg kicks lol. he had to switch to south paw in the first round, and the dude looked out of rhythm the majority of the fight and fought at a much slower pace than he usually does. those kicks were significant.
How you can disregard 60 plus leg kicks is beyond me.
To be honest ive never been a fan of max’s style. Theres something off. I’ve never seen someone use leg kicks on Max and never even thought of it(even Aldo). As soon as I saw volkanovski using leg kicks it was a ‘woah’ moment and I knew immediately he won it.
The fact he is downplaying the strategy as if he was gunning for points is a bit hypocritical too.
no doubt those leg kicks fucked him up... max to proud to admit it
The judges of the ufc should be DC, Joe Rogan and Maybe any hall of famer
DC said he didn't know who won Max VS Alex at the end, so...
@@SoloNecr0zis Prob because Max is his boy
It's essential the judges aren't friends (or not friends) with either contestant. Joe and DC know too many of the top guys to judge their fights. They should get older, retired UFC fighters to do it who are impartial.
@Phony Mex where did I said I do? Go attack someone else
@Phony Mex oh okay. it's all good, no offense taken.
who else here after holloway gave kattar a beating of a lifetime
Yessai
Who’s here after he just got robbed in the rematch? There should’ve been a trilogy in the works rn this is BS.
There is so much sense in this one fucking video. These guys know exactly what they're talking about.
Max is such a cool guy. He’s definitely my favorite fighter. His personality so chill so cool so humble. It is what it is
Hard part about ex fighters or superfans judging fights is that they're more susceptible to bias.
This man is a real class act! Although he lost, he lost a close fight to a very skilled, strong & determined opponent but he didn't get injured and he's still young. He will be back! He gained just as much respect from me in this loss as he did in any of his wins!
Hit like if you want a rematch .
Lee Wright max has the right to a rematch he’s put in so much work in the featherweight division
@Lee Wright doomer spotted
Lee Wright he’s been on top for so long and doesn’t deserve a rematch? u sound stupid
@@samelasty3303 Jose didn't get a rematch and did more and has to this day lost the same. So...
@@lastofthebrohicans4998 Max fought Jose twice in a row. What are you talking about?
Such a humble guy. He's only 28, he'll be back better than ever.
So humble he blames the judges for him getting worked over all fight lmao
@@EvanLandry221 nobody is perfect ppl like u just focus on the negatives smh
Evan Landry no, Max didn’t blame the judges. He said that, during the fight, he thought he won, but when he watched the reply afterwards he saw how he lost. It’s very easy to be discombobulated while in the midst of a match.
ALiBi212x I watched a documentary on Chris Eubank and after he won a controversial points decision against Tom Watson, he said Tom won the fight, a fighter knows (in the documentary not straight after the fight)
Tren Kokoko wrong.
MMA needs more Max Holloway's, prime example.
"I can do what i love and thats punching people in the face" Quote of the year!
I think if a championship fight is questionable it should automatically go to the champ. It should be a decisive victory to attain the belt.
Is there a reason we can’t have retired fighters or current fighters who are maybe looking at an exit strategy could be put as judges?
I would think someone who got their head bashed in for a long time wouldnt be a great judge lol. Also their would be obvious bias like if one of the judges trained with a fighter and are close. I'm not saying no retired fighters could do it but it's a risk
As koolaid said above, there's a lot of potential for bias there. Imagine if a former fighter was tasked with judging a Colby fight, for example, and this judge was apart of Usman's gym, the Blackzillians, when he was still a fighter. There's going to be some bias there, even if the judge wasn't conscious of it...
Judge pay is prob shit. Fighters ain’t gonna fight over that job. Next question
Max is still the champion to me. The way he conduct himself is how champion should be.
Volk will do Max justice whole he holds the belt trust that. Very humble and likeable like Max
@@justice19xx31 Not going to take anything away from Volk, he win fair and square.
@@Syakirin57 yeah not at all I didn't take it that way I mean Alex will be a great roll model just like Max, Khabib, and Usman we actually have some really great champs at the moment
How max Holloway isn't the champ anymore is beyond me, he won that second fight easily
Exactly what I've been saying. These judges never did train or fight a day in their life and they shouldn't judge. Let someone who actually fought like ex fighters be the judges cause they know more
The mma community on verdict scored every single round for Volk. Fanboy.
problem with ex fighters being judges is they would favor fighterz with the same style of fighting/discipline and give those more points then things they didnt seem damaging or like..
And to be fair what’s going on in ufc isn’t nearly as controversial as boxing.
Dirk Diggler that’s entirely possible
Max is blessed, and the blessed will be back stronger. Championship heart win or lose. Good example for MMA.
Glad he finally made it no JR. Only thing to make my life complete is the diaz brothers in the podcast.
Should be the champ again hate to see it happen especially twice to such a great guy
If only the whole world had Max’s attitude on life #champshit 💯

Manager: Max, YOU'RE FIRED
Max: It is what it is
Alexander Volkanovski performed incredibly, but he used 3 very specific weapons designed directly at Max Holloway's style.
It's the most interesting stylistic matchup of the fight island card, can;t wait to see it
Good breakdown 👍👍
Fighters need to know each rd scored during rests so they can adjust, and not trust their yes man corners. The end rds would be different in my opinion.
I feel so bad for Max, he should have won the rematch. But UFC judges still favour champions like Jones and Volkanovski.
Max had nothing for him in the last 3 rounds
The problem with having fans and/or ex fighters as judges would be bias. No matter how much people want to think it doesn't effect them, it does.

Yeah, kinda disappointed with the interview. Turned into a bitchfest about referees, and all that. And it wasn't even as if it was a close fight.
