Hey Bo! Can you share some thoughts on why your other studio space wasn't working for you? 🧡
Sure, why not
Here’s the short of it:
1. The commute is not fun at all (imagine bicycling in all manner of rough weather across town)
2. I can’t work when inspiration strikes
3. Rent
4. Landlord
5. Disturbing studio neighbours
6. I often work in the evenings bc US contacts/friends are awake then. Which means working from home so… yeah…
7. And perhaps equally as important: we bought a house with the space for it, so why not just go for it
I´ll consider that in the future - very valuable points you dont think of before @@BoBeats
@@BoBeats That all makes sense. Thanks for sharing!
Came here to ask this, I was wondering as well!
I'm very happy that you found space in your new house to bring your studio back home. Great vision to see that amongst the storage space rooms. I'm sure it's going to come out perfectly for you once it's done. I've watched a lot of UA-camrs have studios in their home, relocate their studio away from home, and then bring the studio back home. It makes sense as there is no place more convenient than your home, but sometimes you need to get away due to interruptions or space. Thanks for sharing the process with us.
Congratulations and all the best with finishing the place.
I wish that in this place you will find joy, creativity and peace.
Thank you! ♥️
I'm at the same place as you. About to consider re designing my setup. False floors and partitioning etc. Fun but it's going to be a challenge for me. Nice to see your video as I know I'm not the only one! Good Luck!
Bo, at least you're not trying to work in the same space that you are renovating. That would really be stressful and make you anxious.
I'm glad you also got the professionals in to install the steel rsj to stop the roof collapsing!
I have to say though I'm looking forward to watching your journey and the videos on what to keep and what to sell will be revealing.
Thats a good idea for a video!!
Wow congratulations on your house and cozy home studio🏡 it’s beautiful. I want that one day. 🙏🏽
I can ASSURE you, that it WILL work :) Wait and see. When it's all done, you will feel so much more at rest/peace, than with your current studio, just you wait and see :)
Awesome! Super hyped to see you going after it Bo! The fact that you're moving forward is a great reminder to your anxious self. Pushing through that and examining each problem one at a time will get you there! And making note of the accomplishments too! Demo, done! I-beam installed done! Window blocked out, done!, etc!
Thanks!! And yes, its envisioning whatever you do as a staircase and each step regardless how small it is, is towards some sort of change. Makes everything easier to break it down, even when it feels impossible
Good luck... Bo. I already know it'll be great.
Go Bo!! Rocking it!! Home studios are where it’s at!
Congratulations, Bo! Our family is in the process of renovating our entire house while also living in it (I don't recommend this to anyone). We are still trying to figure out some studio/study/writing space so we appreciate you sharing your experiences. I am also a synth and studio beginner and your videos have been influential. I was wondering if you could also share or review studio items like desks, rack mounts for desktop synths, and maybe even monitors in future videos. Thank you!
Congrats Bo looks great
cool video, look forward to seeing it completed
Hi Bo. Been away on hols and only just got around to watching this. I just wanted to say I really enjoyed this little look at bo-hind the scenes. It's just as interesting and perhaps more useful than most product videos because we all have a studio of some kind to think about. Looking forward to the next update. Take care..Richard Frost
Hey Bo, thank you for sharing your journey!
I found your channel about 8 months ago while researching hardware synths and I've found your content to be both honest and helpful. As I watch my new hobby scale up quicker than anticipated... it's nice to see the thought process put into someone else's "maker space". Looking forward to more content!
Nice job Bo! I want to do this when I can buy a place with more land and space. Then can have dedicated studio building like a large barn.
Looking forward to the next episode!
After the GAS you even got the SAS 🤣
I wish you all the best with the new space 😉
Awesome video, love seeing studios being built. Also the nature around your house is amazing!
Looks great and it seems to come along nicely. All the best!
Congratulations, Bo. All the best beats
Nice to see and BTH, I dream of having a studio space somewhere but really love my tiny home studio because it is just 'there' when I have 30 minutes spare time.
Enjoy the new space ! Hope it's not gonna generate too much stress.
Best of luck Bo, looking good and sounding ok for isolation.
Congrats Bo! That’s awesome. I can’t wait to see the final result.
Hope to be able to share it soon-ish’
Good luck with it Bo - hope it works out for you
very exciting stuff!! congrats to you, bo, on this lovely new workspace.
Thank you!!
Tearing down looks so fun, I always wanted to do that. My wife and I just finished doing the exact opposite, building rooms into our basement. Not nearly as fun as smashing it all down.
Looks like it'll be awesome! Beautiful home too!
Thank you! We are very happy
Kommer att bli fantastiskt! Kul att följa.
1:55 Bo beats the wall! 😆
Woooaaahhh slow down there....
It's interesting watching the journey and exploring the reality of 'owning' a studio space, @BoBeats.
One comment I would make, having undergone the conversion of a large garage 20 years ago, is make sure you have at least double the number of electrical mains sockets you think you require. And then double it again! You currently seem to have hardly any provisioned!
And, where possible, star the mains spurs out from one point only in order to help alleviate the dreaded ground loop.
Hope these small pointers help...
I think it will be quite cozy.
i hope so too!
Looks great! Using architectural software is a good planning idea. Good luck! Love your channel
Yeah I love planning stuff to make sure I have thought about things correctly
Cool studio Bo!
Thanks Tore!
I do kinda like the look of those brown sound panels in the visualization, they add at least a bit more warmth and cosiness to the room.
But really what matters is that you're happy when working there, so go ahead with grey ones if you prefer them!
/pedant mode on
columns are vertical
beams are horizontal
/pedant mode off
well done 👍
Well, thats just good information! Thanks!
So support beam across, and column is the thing I had removed! Got it!
@@BoBeats every day is a school day, and even smart b******* like me do not know everything haha
cheers 👍
Totally! I dont even know the names of these things in swedish, i just say ”board” for just about anything that is supporting anything wether in floors/ceiling etc
@@BoBeats yes, of course, I suppose that not everything translates, and I'm a lazy good for nothing brit that has never bothered to learn another language
and when we travelled through parts of Denmark, Sweden and Finland earlier in the year, everyone spoke english anyway!
Love it! Congrats!
Once you get setup, would love to see either your audio setup/power or you actually going through the setup process.
Trying to setup a little room myself with very little experience and am struggling to figure out how to connect all of my synths for a DAWless setup so they are all playable without constantly plugging and unplugging.
Will write this down! Good idea for a vid
Hello, Bo, congratulations on your new home. I wish you all the best and every success. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the studio construction continues. I think it's a good idea to bring your studio back into your home. It does make sense to separate your professional and private lives. But when I imagine having to drive or cycle to my synths...brrrrr. 😆. So: have fun building your studio. I'm sure it's going to be great!
Also when imagining bycycling add snow, rain, for like 5 months a year 😆👌
Oh, yes, for sure. The hottest Synth makes no fun, if you have got cold fingers… 🤣
While watching you rip apart the little rooms to make the nice big studio space, I started wondering if any of those walls were load-bearing 😀
We wondered that too. So we put in a massive iron beam
Ser veldig bra ut! Pusset opp mitt eget studio selv. Tar MYE lenger tid enn hva man tror. :)
Kul! Kämpa på!
Will do sjejf!@@BoBeats
I am redoing my studio after getting new hardwood floors. But I have not bought any new gear this year as I have a lot already and no real need.
Looks great - I am short of space in a very small house, so just use a DAW, VSTs headphones and some Electron gear. I also play acoustic drums, but when i want to play/record those I have to go to a local studio. But that works well. Am also considering getting Super Drummer 3 so can program or play drums via midi (drum pads) and get really quality sounds. Can also record my live drums, create midi files from that and edit/adjust with samples. We are spoilt for options. I have to use headphones but that's ok, so no monitors - for now! But amazing what you can do with very small space, software and hardware (and don't get me wrong I am hooked on the analog sound, just suits my ears better). Less is more!
Yeah we all gotto work with what we got! Glad you are making it work for you!
Fan va skönt att du sparade ut håret igen :)
man kan säga att jag leasnade på att ha kort hår
@@BoBeats Nä nu jävlar! Jag leasar din kanal! :D
I also recently bought a house and I'm trying to convert a big room into a studio and honestly I'm in my head and I want to hire a professional. I'm in a big city but I'm not even sure how I'll go about looking for this sort of thing.
Congrats on the space. The only thing that confuses me is your doorway entry from your living space. That can affect your in room acoustics if not planned well.
Yepp. Worst case I will have to put a second door there, but I think with some absorbers I can make it work
Great video. Looking at building a better studio as well. got some tips for a first go at it? Any mistakes u made first time?
Yeah plenty of mistakes! Want me to make a vid on the topic?
@@BoBeats would love a video on that brother!
ask your bestie SynthPunk aka John, I am sure he would be able to give you some hints.
Ha! When you moved into your new house I predicted you would move your studio in your home. Good decision!
Yeah it does make sense doesn’t it
who cares about the studio, you got an awesome bench grinder included with the house! total jealous!!! ;)
Yeah we got like hundreds of tools. Not everything in great condition, but some of it is will be very useful!
@@BoBeats nice! i think i would have kept the whole workshop! what's cooler, a workshop or studio, you missed opportunity to pivot the channel to DIY!
ah but I have a heated double garage with a workbench!
Great video. More installments to come I presume; I think I like the lifestyle videos more than the gear reviews. BTW it’s an RSJ not an iron thing ( yes I am an engineer 😊)
The other thing that struck me is that nowadays since most gear plugs straight into a PC the only thing I would need proper anchoic space (if I were being a purist) for would be recording vocals ( and arguably for my two acoustic guitars to negate any microphonic effects) but seeing as how my recording is fundamentally nomadic (kitchen/garage/bedroom) that’s not going to happen any day soon
So… what does rsj stand for? Rigid Steel Jellybeam? 🤪
Yours is way better than mine. It’s rolled steel joist😊
ok so its not a beam but a joist? What is a beam then?@@The_artist_called_The_Engineer
Same basic thing. If it were wood I’d call it a beam.
You appear to have live electricals while doing your demolition? I want you to survive and continue creating great content... so hey cut that out!
We thankfully had a pro with us, so it was quite alright. Thank you for the concern ♥️♥️♥️
Bo, just out of curiosity, how do you feel about selling synths that you've used in previous tracks of your own?
Oh thats a tricky one. I think there’s a few I really can’t part with. Like the Minilogue. But in general I try and just be rational that its just synth sounds and they can be replaced by other synth sounds!
@@BoBeats Wow, interesting, because I am thinking of departing of my Minilogue cause I now think it does not appeal to me but I used it in one work of mine that has won an award. So, it’s collecting dust beneath my bed…but I do not think if I am emotionally capable to let him go, eheh. 😅
Too bad you didn't have some super saws - would have been quicker to tear down everything :)
Why didnt i think of this, i own like 4 saws i should have stacked them
Hej Bo, jag letar efter glasögon i samma stil som dina, var har du köpt dom?
Smarteyes
Are you in the Netherlands?
Nope, Swe
Aren’t you worried that now you have a smaller studio again, it will gradually get overly full because of review devices, things you buy and so on? In other words , how do you know that you are not zig zagging between the two ideals of a big studio and a place very immediately reachable?
Good question! And the simple reason I am not worried is I have a lot of storage space that I didnt showcase in the vid
@@BoBeats nice! That will help a lot. My “studio” is 1 table with a pair of monitors, an AudioFuse studio, and an iPad for recording, but I really love switching the gear and bringing only sub selections to the table instead of connecting a lot all the time. It is a necessity because I don’t have more room allocated, but I also really like this necessity, it is great for focus.
Why didn't you put in the new electric before you sheet rocked the walls??
Because there are walls behind that dry wall. So we are doing some electricity in the old channels and some on the surface of the walls. Way cheaper than tearing down existing walls. Might not look as nice, but then again I will have a bizzillion cables anyway
This apparoach would likely be against code in the US. Haha.
Oh? Isnt US like known for running stuff outside the wall? Like water outside building walls? Here as long as its done by pro’s its totally cool
@@BoBeats its very senisitive about whats in a wall electric wise. Has to be conduit or plenum rated cable. Panduits are used but not for everything outside a wall.
That big UA-cam money really paying off.
you should see my "lambo"
@@BoBeats Wouldn't surprise me tbh
my lambo is a beaten up old opel, no fancy stuff here
I guess a lot of people want to see other people brag about their stuff. Is this what UA-cam is now? This has very little educational content and I found the video useless. Just a comment. I hope you think about it and use it. Thanks.
Its not meant to be all that educational. its just an update, letting people know what I have been up to.
Its always helpful to see people building out production spaces and seeing the challenges of such. UA-cam is more then tutorials for plug ins. Smh. Thank u for showing the challenges Bo.
thanks for watching
@@UncommonRecordsnyc I guess if you're constantly building studios, I can see how it might have a some useful information. In my mind, it comes off as showboating. I'm not jealous, I just had no use for the video. Glad other people might have some use for it though.
Showboating requires something to show off… theres literally nothing impressive in the video except how bad I am at handywork 😆
