    Treat yourself or find the perfect gift for your favorite music maker. The Korg Volca Beats (bit.ly/2d6qkXp) is a super accessible and incredibly versatile analog rhythm machine. We’ll start with the basics. The Korg Volca Beats has a step sequencer pulled from the Electribe that lets you create and tweak sequences from its high quality analog sounds. It includes basics like Kick Drum, Snare, Toms and high hats, as well as more experimental Agogo and Crash effects. When creating rhythmic sequences with these voices, you can tweak them, with on board controls, and then record those tweaks. You can even record the motion of your stutter effects and speed changes, and layer over them. An active step function generates new bass lines by allowing you to skip steps in your sequence or add them in, and a Step Jump feature plays only the note you’re pressing for on the fly buildups and breakdowns. There’s a built in speaker for on the go playing with batteries and headphones, as well as sync and midi inputs for playing in tandem with other units or DAWs. The Volca Beats is one in Korg’s line of Volca series, and can be used with its counterparts to make a wide range of synthetic soundscapes.

    I like that snare for it's uniqueness. But at the same time, that snare fucking sucks.

    The initial sounds remind me very much of the Korg KPR-77 analogue drum machine from the early 80's...i owned one from 1994-97 approx. nice drum machine that was overshadowed by Roland's 606.
    I would buy a Volca Beats right now as it is so much more versatile than the 77, much more tuneable/tweakable and it doesn't sound like a 606...
    Quite unique sounding, noice!!!

  • @raytracer5726
    @raytracer5726 6 років тому +31

    The stutter function combined with step recorder (and sample speed) is a very powerful tool - it allows you to create all kinds of wacky rhythmic drum loops in a intuitive way.
    And most of the reviewers don't talk about it.
    808 always sounded boring to me. Sure, it has nice sounds - but it can't do anything 'crazy', unless you post process it. Volca can do crazy right out of the box.
    For me, it is hands down the best value analog drum machine on the market.
    Snare sucks, but you can easily mod it to get a decent snare. I don't get why Korg overlooked it, when they designed it. It is an easy mod to do.

    I see a lot of people using it for House and Dance beats, but I have yet to find it being applied in a more, I suppose "traditional" songwriting sense, e.g. writing a song on guitar with a drum beat in mind and then applying said drum beat to the Volca. I love electronic music and the sounds that can be created through the technology, but for me, it can be overwhelming trying to comprehend just how these machines operate. I own a Monologue as well and am newly breaking into the synthetic world after playing guitar for 12 years and im super intrigued with this line of products. I cant be the only one who would use it in this context, right? I suppose this comment could be considered redundant, because, with any instrument there IS a learning curve

      I know exactly what you mean. We use it to try out drumbeat ideas in an indie band context, but ended up digging its analog sound so much that we built a whole song in the studio around it: ua-cam.com/video/QW8_X__hFcU/v-deo.html
      For fun, the other day we even used it live for an unplugged thing with a mic on it: ua-cam.com/video/l-Ea5DwPACo/v-deo.html - did you already record your volca / monologue in context with guitars?

    1. Throw the unit out of a second-storey window

    4. Go buy a toy drum kit from the thrift shop
