      That was super helpful though. I'd never used catalogueing before this so I'm gonna go tidy up my comp when I get home. Cheers

    Can I ask, after you've culled through on Photo Mechanic and Lightroom, and you've exported the final edits to jpeg, what do you do with the ORIGINAL raw files? How do you avoid all those raw files clogging up your memory on your drives or computer?

      If you want to keep your photos from taking up disk space, then just delete them.

    Cheers dude I'll have to try photo mechanic as culling in lightroom is a bitch!

    When you pull in metadata to get 1 star photos will it replace all metadata or just the rating?

    Your iMac Pro is probably not as fast as you’d expect because Lightroom doesn’t really benefit from additional cores, just the amount of ram. If you have more ram in the iMac, you may want to try giving it more system memory

    Hi Chris! Just curious, could you create a collection and cull from there? Or is it just better in Photo mechanic? If so, why? Btw, thanks for this video!

    If you use separate catalogs, does that mean you cant sync all of them to lightroom mobile?

    Hey Chris, half way through the vid so maybe you answer this already but how long do you keep photos backed up for? Do you have hard drives dedicated to archiving anything old or do you delete things after a certain period of time?

    • @ChrisTurnerPhotographer
      @ChrisTurnerPhotographer  5 років тому +3

      Yeah I’ll just buy a hard drive once a year usually. Only cost $100 or whatever

    That's really a great way to cull images and get back into lightroom with blazing fast speed with no running time, Thank you for showcasing that.

    This is a great video Chris. Has anything change with how you do things now? I take it once you're finished editing you just copy the folder over to the Lacie drive to archive it.

    • @ChrisTurnerPhotographer
      @ChrisTurnerPhotographer  3 роки тому +1

      Ill have to go back and watch it haha. I don’t think so though probably the only thing that has changed would be I’m using a loupedeck for all editing. With the final JPGs I just upload them to Pixieset in full res and then copy the folder of JPGs to the hard drive yeah

    That process makes sense (thank you) but it also seems like you're still waiting for a fair amount of time - between importing but not creating smart previews, then importing to photo mechanic, then importing the metadata into lightroom. Do you really find Lightroom is that slow that it's not just quicker to cull within lightroom, without having created smart previews?

    • @ChrisTurnerPhotographer

      Not really. Use a few extra tools and newer drives otherwise pretty much the same

    So by having a different catalog for each wedding where is your LR. cat kept? I would need to have my LR whole folder on my SSD to switch between computers. Does that make sense?

    Wow that is super cool bro! It helps me to save tons of time switching the photo applications. And minimalism software on the computer.
    Could I ask you a question?
    How I choose the fast focus point in the wedding? Because everything changing so fast, sometimes I miss the focus. Sadness about that!
    Moving the joystick is not faster enough, and back focus still take time.
    What do you think about it?
    Have you ever lost a photo that you know you will take it or suddenly happens. Missing it by cannot focus correct subject

    Is there a way to see higher resolution previews for your Sony raw files? I’m used to working with canon files and the built in previews are great, but I’m struggling with the Sony previews at the moment and hoping for a work around.

    Why wouldn't you cull them in Photo Mechanic first then import the remaining files into Lightroom? You are needlessly putting files into LR that you will eventually delete.

    • @ChrisTurnerPhotographer
      @ChrisTurnerPhotographer  4 роки тому

      I don’t delete unused files for one, and 2 I don’t cull until I’m ready to edit the wedding same day. I like to bring them all into Lightroom, do a sneak peek then I won’t touch them until it’s editing day for that wedding
