Is this the 2021 or the 2022 ver? I'm debating between this and the Trek Marlin 8. It almost comes down to preference. They're almost the same! This black one looks amaaaazing!
Thanks for the video is it a good bike ride in town and if i did a trail it be a clas two somthing simpleike to turn into a mid electric bike wanted your thougths
This past spring I decided I wanted to get a bike again. Literally knew nothing and wasnt even sure I could get a big enough bike. I am 6'8 so I thought it would be hard to find something, but I called up a local bike shop and told them the situation. The guy was like "oh yea we got you. XXL Rock hopper. It is originally $750 but it is on sale for $540." I went in to get it the same day, and apparently the bike he said they had was not in, so he put me on the COMP version of it just to try it out. Worked great. I was like "So how much is this one?" they said originally it was $1000, but since they had it for 2 years and nobody is tall enough to want to buy a big mint green bike, they sold it to me for $399.99. Love that bike its so much fun
That style Rockhopper frame is absolutely beautiful. Its the same frame for all the models so when im ready to replace my bike I'll buy a cheap one. I'll have it sprayed matt black then do a custom build on it.
If had this for over 3 years and had a similar model a few years ago for 3 years or so too. Proof that an XC hardtail is the best bike to have in your shed/garage…
I love my rockhopper 29”sport. So far I’ve only replaced bald tyres and chain. The only upgrade I will need is an air fork, all else stock. I won’t sell or trade my bike. On a 2x9, I can climb any hill like a mountain goat.
Ordered one of these bad boys yesterday, can't wait to have a bike suited for some rougher riding, I've been swapping out my road bike tyres to 37mm gravel tyres. I went for the Sage Green, make it a bit more stealthy for camping with too
I went for the 2022 sage green elite 29'er with an XL frame, took it up the woods yesterday on the jumptracks and trails, the stock wheels are a bit slippy on roots and rocks but the bike jumps a beaut and the tubeless tyres are bouncy for the landing, it's not built for it but it's good at it it for me, just don't do any mad stony downhills and you'll be fine in this
If you have stock stem do you think it would be worth getting a shorter stem? I do basic trails rn I don’t do any jumps really. Also would it be worth putting maxxis tires on it, I have some on my old bike I could use. Dhr2 front and aggressor back
nice review nice bike how would it fair as a commute bike im riding a Hybrid bike at the moment to commute daily and i covered 2500 miles since september 22 but it weighs in around 17kg so something lighter that i can take light off road when needed
Well I haven’t ridden the Scott. What’s the price difference and which one is available? My main reason for getting the Spesh was availability tbh but i haven’t regretted it
I didn’t say it couldn’t handle - I just done think it’s best suited to it. The strength of the bike will soon show if you start hitting rowdy rough trails.
Thank for your review! Do you think with the type of trail riding you do, you'd be happier with a Rock Hopper model less than the "Expert" model? I'm in the process of deciding which Rockhopper model. I live by multiple trailheads and won't be going over any boulders anytime soon.
I use this bike for mostly cross country rides. Here where I live in Wiltshire I will ride this on the Ridgeway, Wansdyke, canal tow paths. It will deal with most trails but I wouldn’t be jumping or hitting too much in the way of rocky or gnarly trails on it as it’s simply not built for that kind of thing
I agree - yeah there's some OEM (spesh) bits and pieces on there but for £800 its a solid buy. But as I said you have to respect it. I ride it 75% like a gravel bike and 25% MTB and don't hit the rowdy stuff, or if I come across it, I slow down a bit.
@@TimFromWales i hit somewhat rowdy stuff on the standard rockhopper 29. 😈 The wheels folding and chain popping off (because of meh groupset) are my biggest concerns when hitting 6 foot high jumps

Hello, I´d like to ask, If there is any problem with "old type" bottom bracket?

I'm thinking of buying one of these and your review has given me a lot of confidence that it could be a good option for me.
Very reliable bike if you respect it.

Haha i like wildcampin aswell I did the same thing, went for sage green it looks sick bro
This bike can take way more, than most people think it can.
I agree - if you know how to ride you can put it through a fair amount. Dont expect too much of the forks though.

What is a comfortable height for the xl frame? All the large are sold out
Good little review that Tim. Would be good to throw some basic geo numbers in there to give an idea of how it’ll ride/fit. Good value.
Not a bad idea. I was thinking of another video on the geo as I was going to talk about how this is my “gravel bike”..
Does this have a clutched derailleur
Yes
nice review nice bike
how would it fair as a commute bike
im riding a Hybrid bike at the moment to commute daily and i covered 2500 miles since september 22 but it weighs in around 17kg so something lighter that i can take light off road when needed
Absolutely perfect for commuting - I’ll be using it for a short 5-6 mile occasional commute 2-3 times a week, within the next few weeks.
Which helmet are you wearing? What camera are you using to film?
Troy Lee designs A2 I think. I’ll check. I always wear TLD
Camera. I’m think this would be a HERO 9
Looks like a great bike for £800. You should have a look at the on one hello dave looks like a really good burley steel hard tail with great spec.
Yeah that’s a good value bike/frame might lose my town and country look and feel with that beast all together 😂
Getting a elite 29 inch 2019 for 350
Great value.
Hi bud I know you said you have a Medium , how tall are you. I'm 5ft 10 ?
Yes a M - I’m 5’9. Could have possibly got a large. But this just right for my needs.
I'm 5 10 and was fitted for a medium today at the bike store... It will depend on how long your legs vs torso are... Get fitted...
Whats is your height? Im 6' and wondering if get the medium (which has a cooler geo) or the L
I’m 5’9, get the right size over the geo
what glasses you wearing there?
These are from Rad8 - model number 507. Great glasses.
I'm on the fence between this and the Scott Scale 970. Sell me on the Rockhopper.
Well I haven’t ridden the Scott. What’s the price difference and which one is available? My main reason for getting the Spesh was availability tbh but i haven’t regretted it
I disagree with you on its capability. It can handle the trails and jumps in Colorado and Bentonville, AR, USA. It is a capable bike.
