Penn State will look to make a statement when they open their season against West Virginia. PSU was 10-3 last season and WVU was 9-4. PSU is the favorite by the NCAA odds. In a battle of 2 of the nation’s best teams, who will be the winning NCAAF pick?

Take WVU and the points.
If you re-watch last years game, WVU held up physically against PSU at the line of scrimmage. WVU equaled PSU in rushing yards and actually won time of possession. That is important because usually PSU beats teams in the B1G by physically overwhelming them. The games they lose are when they face a team that holds up against them at the LOS. What killed WVU was their secondary which got torched by PSU and the lack of a passing game from WVU which allowed PSU to sell out against the run.
What has changed since then:
1. WVU's passing game improved vastly as the season went on. GG settled in as a starter and a bunch of young talented WRs stepped up and overtook the starters. So the starting WRs PSU will face did not even play in Happy Valley. This will force PSU to actually respect the pass now, unlike in last years game.
2. WVU has a second RB in Jahiem White who did not really play in that game in Happy Valley, He is a quick slashing RB with big play breakaway speed. This allows WVU to alternate with C.J. Donaldson, giving a change of pace and allows them both to be more rested. Despite being a freshman he had 842 yards rushing and at a clip 7.7 yards per carry.
3. PSU has two new coordinators, and no matter how good they may be, you just don't plug in two new systems without a lot of early hiccups. That might be fine if it this was Temple or Illinois or Indiana, but this is WVU at Morgantown. I know WVU is not a "blueblood" but the lazy analysis here acts like WVU is Temple. WVU sucks, PSU are gods of football...they have time to "experiment". Are you kidding? WVU is going to come out like this is their Super Bowl, c. 1970s George Allen Redskins against the Cowboys. You don't experiment and find your identity in those kind of games.
4. WVU did add a lot new faces in the secondary, which on paper should be an improvement, but who can tell until game time. The problem for PSU is their WR room is the same way. The main guy who torched WVU in last years game is now at Auburn. So basically the weakness of WVU, its secondary, is matched against the weakness of PSU. WVU would be in trouble if this was Ole Miss, OU or some team with a prolific passing game with seasoned WRs, but PSU has yet to prove to me they actually have those kind of WRs, and if WVU's secondary is actually better...watch out.
In conclusion: I think PSU should be favored, but I think 10 pts is too much. I would go with a 3-7 pt win, and I would not be surprised if WVU outright wins the thing.

There's no way Penn State wins by two touchdowns my friend the mountaineers will pull this game out. Late in the fourth quarter, WVU wins by 4. That's just my opinion 🏈

WVU benefitted from a schedule last year that their opponents were 98-59 (62%) which ranked 3rd in the country behind only South Carolina and Michigan state . Before you ever say a 9 win team was no good , make sure you are ready to back that up ! Bozo!

Oh red with the disrespect and about the worst take I believe I've ever heard. Saying Garrett doesn't have much more in his game to elevate.. Its pretty obvious you guys done absolutely no homework on West Virginia.. WVU returns close to 70% of their starters from last season while Penn st. returns around 50%.. WVU looked very different after that game 1 last season due to freshman taking over starting roles. Our best RB Jahiem White didn't even play that game.. WVU has invested a lot into that secondary over the off-season as well.. Y'all about to find out real soon.. Respect to the guy in the Iowa hat for atleast knowing a little ball and showing Greene respect with the pff score

Penn State has a boat load of talent and they very well might win, but the way these guys see WV is comedically stupid sadly James Franklin is smarter and won’t over look the Errs. Gonna be a good one FOX knows what they’re doing.
I mean Parker is insane WV is a Hail Mary away from a 10 win season in a big 12 they were predicted to finish last in. Now the narrative is the 11 p4 game schedule was weak as if they played in the Sun Belt.

A poll was conducted among PSU fans on its football board. The question was which "on the road" teams will be our toughest opponents? Results: #1 USC, #2 WVU, #3 Wisconsin, Purdue and the other BIG games barely received any votes in the poll. Most Nittany Lions fans are not overlooking the openng away game 180 miles Southwest of State College.

I like PSU in this one straight up. Primarily because PSU has the better talent IMO. However, I don't like PSU's depth at OL and Secondary. Lot's of freshman. If the Mountaineers can exploit the secondary depth we could see an upset.
