Oh good. You posted this. Yo. I spammed the SoundCloud comment section but….that’s like screaming at a concert. Who tf is gonna stop the music to reply? I’ll keep it short…ish. How tf was this mixed and mastered. Sonically, it’s balanced like a vr track. But, something about the compression. It’s got a vintage yet, modern feel. Like, there’s a subtle ass NY compression on the master or something. Buuut, though loud, the drums are still transient af. Aaaand the side chain isn’t ridiculous to achieve said drums. Or at least to my ear. Basically, what I’m asking is, what tf was the mixing and compression philosophy behind this. Because, I’m a fairly advanced producer. Not pro. I’m on that cusp, where you are like “this close” for 5 years and than randomly get it after time. But, I’m a year deep on the cusp, wanna speed run it and, for some reason, this track seemingly nails all the shit I feel I overlook/ haven’t discovered yet. So, yeah. Also, one thing I have to say. I can nail the drums. If there are two things I’m way too good at, it’s drums and sound design. If there are two things that I really suck at, it’s bus compression and… master compression. Or at least to my knowledge. There feels to be another element at play here. There’s like a warmth, almost. I’ve heard this same warmth in flume tracks. It’s a warmth that doesn’t necessarily show up on a frequency analysis chart. It’s not mud. It’s like, something about the low mids feels perfect. Usually, I will mb compress the ass out of all background elements in that range, in an attempt to keep that warm, atmospheric sorta vibe in check; compressing so it doesn’t have to be as loud to remain audible. But, I have found that this only works in theory, and tends to kill the character of said frequencies. This track. It nailed that. It nailed the ever living fucc out of low mids. It’s got that “not just professional sound” but, “radio tier professional sound.” Like, I can’t stress enough how much you guys nailed the mix-down and mastering on this track. Its so good, I genuinely feel it makes my weaknesses as a producer that much more clear. Something, that noisia had only done in the past. There’s a certain delusion that goes along with being mediocre. I’m in that boat. That “I’m good enough and yet suck” boat. The titanic. And I feel as though this track is just the tip of the iceberg. Shit sounds so good, it’s got me being all poetic and existential nd shit. So yeah. Basically “how u do dis”
Ight. So what I’ve gathered is, y’all did some weird shit with the eq. There’s like a fairly aggressive peak at like 356hz during the first drop. Or, more like, the spike lines up perfectly with a -4.5db/octave chart. Along with the sub. Between 600hz and 6khz it’s like fairly scooped. And like, the sub, that spike and the highs above 6k are the only things that actually line up with balanced noise…..wait. Now I’m more confused than I was before. Tf did you guys do?
