The last time I watched a video with this much oil, it wasn't on youtube.
+Peter O'Connell hahaaaaa!!! Brilliant :-)
Glad I found this tonight, I have been clearing out my late dad's shed today and found a few old Stanley tools including a Bailey plane. This video will be so helpful, as is the link to find the age of the plane. I've got a few vintage woodworking tools that I've picked up over the years, just getting round to sorting and restoring them. Enjoy your videos greatly. Stay safe and well, Brian
Restoring an old plane is a great way to get a superb tool for not much money. I paid about the same for my mid to late 50's Record No4. It's at least 60 years old and works as well now as it did when new.
I agree, they're excellent tools and seem capable of lasting a lifetime - can't say that for a lot of today's products
Rag 'n' Bone Brown well mines lasted me 41 years and it will outlast me....look after the tools and they will look after the wood. 👍🏼😊
I would love it please! I only have a Stanley block plane currently - which I plan on restoring like you did in this video 😊
Nice video, and good job! I would like to make one point, specifically on flattening the sole. The sole was not flattened properly because of the way you attached your sandpaper with clips, which raised the front and back edges of the MDF. That is why the front and back of your plane were scratched, but not the middle. The MDF had flexed, very likely resulting in a rounded sole.
good video and very generous giving your old plane away nice one
Your videos have a very calming effect where you speak clearly throughout.
i'd love the planer with a pretty please.
Brilliantly explained and takes some of the mystique out of restoring older planes. I am waiting for Faithfull to relist their wooden plane totes when an old Stanley no.4 with a plastic handle and a new Record no.5 with a similar handle can be restored to look like a real plane. Great video and a big thumbs up.
Great video. Perfect timing for me as I've just bought an old joiners toolbox full of old treasures. It had a no. 3, 4, 41/2, 5, 51/2, 6 and 7 as well a shoulder plane and plough plane plus a couple of old hand saws. This little lot will keep me busy for a while. Love the channel, keep up the good work.
Thanks for your restoration tutorial. Lots of useful information. The proof is in your final shavings. The sharpness of your blade is impressive!. Great Job.
Another beginner that would love to have the plane. Or should I say, I want it!!!! Nice video, as always.
Sweet restoration dude. Always nice to see things rust free and shining again.
I love the care you put into your projects, and I would love that plane! Would make my projects more finished!
Has always your restoring a Stanley plane project was spot on,keep the projects coming, very good easy viewing,
Good job Kieth .
Hi. as I am living in France i'm notre sur to be entitled to get it, but I would really love to, mostly from you! next month I will build my own shop and this would be my first vintage tool ! anyway, thanks for what you are doing !
Nice video and well timed as by coincidence I bought my first hand plane at a village market last week, a Stanley number 5 plane. Now I know what to do to bring it back to peak condition. Thanks again for the great videos
Great old tool tastefully restored should last a lifetime of work again
I would like the old plane. love the videos and have been collecting free waste wood and making things, since I started watching your chanel 😀
Awesome job my friend, it's now worth its weight in gold 👍🏼😊
Those shavings were so satisfying.
ignore the bad comments love your videos I would like to have that your doing great keep up the good work love watching
Great information and thank you for the link on the website for identifying the age and type. I have a Stanley No 7 I'm going to be restoring soon.
I enjoy your videos, i too like to build things from previously used materials. my current project is building shop cabinets out of MDF scavenge from pallet skids from work.
I just turned 60 years old and started to do some wood working. I would really want to have that brandless bench plane so I can do real good projects by using it.
I want the hand plane!!
Started woodworking since I watched your workshop build last year and been hooked since. Built up a fairly solid hand tool collection now but in desperate need of a decent hand plane!
I want it!!! I need a Hand Plane, because I don't have one yet. You didn't say if you was doing this give away everywhere. I live in US!!! Someone is going to be very lucky!!! Keep the amazing videos coming!!! Much love from across the pond!!!
Love a chance to get hold of your old plane, Dude! Top work, as always.
Thx for showing us. Its great watching a plane restore. Ur channel is always great to watch. Pls keep it up 👌
thank you!
You are very liberal with the oil 😋. If that plane start tu rust anytime soon I’d be very surprised.
From the sound you can actually tell that the blade is properly sharp. Very good job Sir! Ten thumbs up!
You know what I sure would like that old plane of yours, it'd come in handy seeing as I don't have one! haha
Would love that plane!
Stunning work on the Stanley! Your old plane would be really useful as I'm about to put in new doors and only have a small block plane!
Enjoy your videos. I want the hand plane!!!
I really want it! desperately in need of a general purpose plane.
I want it awesome job on restoring it
If you find a couple pieces of thin wood (shims) and cut them so they're roughly 15-18mm wide by 125-150mm long by 2-2.5mm thick. Get some 220 grit and lightly apply some spray adhesive so that the sandpaper adheres to the stick evenly without random high spots/bubbles. That way you can easily/evenly sand the frog seat and both sides of the throat. Great video. 😀
I want it, please 😁 good video... it's so nice to get an old tool back to good condition again 👍
Nice job! I did a larger Stanley Bailey plane last year but it was in such a state I had to get it media blasted to remove the rust. Came out nice though 😄
I want it!
Really enjoying watching your videos and inspires me to tinker with wood!
Would love to have that plane!
Hello, just discovered and subscribed. I like to restore old hand tools and one thing I Luke to do is use low voltage electrolysis to remove rust. Basically an old phone charger and salt water. It's readily found on Google. A lot of detectorists use this.
Then you can see where just some polishing or where you need to get aggressive.
Good job on that tool!
excellent work
I want it, please. just started learning to wood work an would be a great addition to my growing tool collection, keep up the good work, it's inspiring 👍
i just see your new video and you asked, who want your old plane and yes, I want it, cause here in germany its hard to find used
iron planes
Nice one mate. Just found this exact plane in my grandad's garage (he's long passed away) and will be giving it a similar treatment.
Same here! 8^) Mine is in way better shape, though.
Great video Keith
I would make good use of the plane thanks for the chance Keith good luck all
Right on! Wish I saw your vid before the refurb I just did. Great tips for the next one
Very timely Keith. I haven't won a bid on a No 4 yet but I did get a nice old No 5 Bailey. Who knows? I may have been bidding against you for that No 4!
I would love it!!
Nice restore! I'd love that plane!
great video :) weird how I enjoy seeing things get restored so much just you make it look great:) also love your little sharping set up:)
I would love your old one as I'm starting to do little bits myself :)
I want it. It would make a good scrub plane. Thanks for ur video.
id love to have your old hand plane , im in need of one 😊. awesome restoration by the way that blade blade has probably never been sharper.
I want it please bud. Cracking job on the Stanley. Keep up the good work.
I'd love that plane!
Great job! It looks fantastic.
I want it please Keith. Love your videos from the beginning.
Hi mate. Love watching your videos. I'd love the plane. Happy to pay postage costs too 👍
I have my dads mabe my granddads one of these and its in bad condition the handle has split in to several rings and its full of rust, i must get out of of storage and see what model it is on that site you linked,
you done a fab job on that restoration brings back memory's of helping my dad when he used it
Nice video. Got a couple Stanley planes from my grandfather that are awaiting a restoration so won't request your spare but the vid was very useful. Got a super long one (can't remember the no.) that has Made in the USA embossed on it. In the past I've always sanded rather than planed but it's cool to see how often you use yours.
Great vid , love your channel , it's great to see another small workshop have to say yours is a lot bigger than mine at 8ft x 8ft she'd
I would love that plane!!!
i want it. ... keep the vids coming. very informative and good to watch
Top video..I don't actually own a plane yet so I WANT IT!! 👍
I want it! Great video Keith, feeling inspired to pick up a similar eBay bargain myself and renovate it. Until then, you role plane would come in very handy :-) Love your videos, thanks for taking the (extensive) time to keep them coming every week.
Great job, I don’t think I’ve seen you renovate any old hand tools before.
That was fun! I'm thumb up number 599! Thanks for the fun video!
good video . ive just done a bailey 4, bailey 3 , record 4. all oicked up from a bootsale fir an average of 3 pounds each. bees wax on the handle after oil works great. if you scrape the old laqure with the blunt side of a flat screwdriver it comes off easily with no scoring.
.
Great video. Wiping the handle and tote with lacquer thinner will soften and help remove the old cracked finish.
I want it.
Great video as usual. Keep 'em coming.
I was actually on the lookout for a plane
Thanks for posting the video Keith. Ironically I bought an almost identical no.4 plane on eBay last week! Not needed as much TLC as yours as I paid a little bit more. I used the bench/belt sander to flatten the sole and sides with 80grit. Just need to do the wooden handle now (the innards are ok) so I'll use your method.
Thanks also for the link to find out how old the plane is I'm interested to find out.
hell ya I want it. m from India n really love what u do.
You could always turn your other plane into a scrub plane. Put a heavy camber on the iron and use it for heavy stock removal to knock off a wobble on a board before sending it through a planer
I will take the plane(I want it) - Great Video BTW look forward to next Friday
I need it! Just started building a guitar, inspired by yours.
Nice video. We've got a single plane in the small woodshop I work at, but it's currently broken. The main bolt hole on the frog is stripped. Would love to get a replacement for it.
i want it
hi Love your videos. Been watching for a while, personally i build guitars an am in need of a number 4 plane and some of you videos you have done is really inspiring such as the video you did on the bench dogs love it keep up the good work.
I sure would like to give that plane a new home! :)
I want it I'm just starting out using my hand plan I could put it to really good use I'm just starting to learn more about hand planners.
Beautiful tool!
hi me and my dad are new to woodworking and we only have a drill and a jigsaw we could really use that hand plane
and btw good job on restauration
love a good restoration , nice one mate, hope im not to to late to get my hands on the plane. i could do with a proper plane the one i have takes wayyyy to long to adjust it so frustrating. its one with two twist screws to adjust the blade, but its so akward to adjust the right amount, right pain in the arse. Hope you had a good holiday / time traveling by the way
I want it and would really like to have it. My wife and I are just getting into building finder things and I/we would put it to work.
I want it. Pretty pretty please. I'm a woodworking beginner and could really use all the tools i can get.
want it. I have the same table saw to. and made the bench for it off your plans. Thanks or the tips.
Another great video Keith. Really enjoy your videos.
I Want It.
I want it !
Great video thanks I shall restore some of my old planes
Great video thanks, I love restoring old tools,, I need to find time to build the same sharpening station you used their (Iv watched that build video) Cheers
Awesome video, keep up the great work. # I want it .
I would like that plane as i am a 14 year old aspiring woodworker with limited funds :)
Just getting started...I want it
Nice video Mr B
Nice refurb, always good vids
hi keith enjoyed this vid, the only thing you did not do when you were sharpening you blade was round the corners off , do this you will not get blade marks on your work peice if it is wider than the sole of your plane
thanks Chris, good tip
what is the difference between abrasive paper and vinegar, do they both work for removing rust?
Really interesting
Did you go to any higher grit sand paper? I’ve restored planes and I feel like 80 grit would leave quite a few scratches.
Please could I have the hand plane. Keep up the good videos it is nice to see a range of content.
