Whenever I watch something about the clan(s) of death I see some common struggling when it comes to the pronounciation of these same words. Some local pronounciation tips from a fan who lives in Turkey:
    Cappadocian: Kappadokian
Kaymakli: This is a Turkish word and its pronounciation is a tricky one for westerners. "Kai-mak-lı" ( "a" from "mak" should be pronounced like "a" from the word "father"), ("ı" which is dotless unlike "i" can be pronounced like "the" without the letters "t" and "h". So it is the "e" sound from "the" if it makes sense.)
Erciyes: The name of a mountain which is in middle Anatolia near Cappadocia. Er-ci-yes ("Er" should be pronounced like "er" from "Erebor"), ("ci" is equivalent of "Je" of "Jesus")
btw Kaymaklı is a real subterranean city. If you travel to Turkey you should definately go to Cappadocia and check that place out. It is quite cool.

I get a lot of comments about mispronounced words, but that one is the only helpful and polite one. Thank you!

I've recently started developing a Victorian Vampire campaign based around a Camarilla city. One of the players looks like they're playing a Giovanni. All are under the personal invitation of the Toreador Prince and have been reminded that joining the local community means abiding by the Traditions. We'll see how that works out. Bwahaha. It is also of interest that the Prince's main rival is an Elder Nosferatu crime lord of some ill repute who dwells above ground and is a master of Obfuscate ( multiple applications of 6 Dots). We'll see how all THAT works out...

Giovanni, the clan I've played the longest (approximately for a two year period) and hands down my favorite. So much fun to play and always a riot when you outplot the so called Leaders.

It's is really interesting to see how a clan of death having to pass through so many "deaths" in its history. Would it be possible to a new wave of this clan emerge and do the same what Augustus did? Or could the death come full cycle and then the usurpers suffer in the hands of the HoS? Or even something completely different? With this lore, it's seem impossible that Giovanni could maintain their presence forever, after all, having control over aspects of death doesn't give them immunity to it

Well given that the latest WOD personality quiz placed me here I thought I'd learn a bit more about the clans of death. After reading through some older lore I find myself preffering cappadocian or perhaps even lamia overall. While death may not hold much appeal to me as a subject I at least know theology. However, magic, sword, gun, or the occasional honeyed word will keep you alive longer in my experience. One must be practical, you cannot seek the answers you desire if you cannot protect yourself.
Great video as always sorry for the ramble.

@@LoreByNightVtM no the problem is that they do not really work that well with true Italian history nor culture.
First of all, giovanni is not a surname but a first name and it sound very weird to an Italian (they could at least have used the italian prenominal noble particles "de" which works like the German von) second the mafia is a phenomenon born in south Italy and not culturally native to the north (to be fair all of the giovanni aesthetic, the family motifs, the catholic fervour, etc, is rather southern but that's because that is the Italian stereotype that Americans have) not to mention that none of the clans associated families are part of Venetian nobility (also it's weird that the vampiric counterpart to a people like Venetians, that historically were paranoically obsessed with making so that no family ever could get enough power to monopolize and/or overthrow the republic would act in such a openly monarchical way).
Italians already have plenty of weird lore that could have been used to make up a clan (to continue with the godfather archetype, or rather stereotype, they could, for example, have used the mysterious and legendary Beati Paoli, the blessed Pauls/People of Paul, a Christian heretical sect/organization from which according to the tales all mafias have originated from.
Or to keep the Venetian origin they could have used the Venetian Black Nobility as portrayed by the Conspiracy theorist and "historian" Jan van Helsing (it is of no historical value but Venetian nobility was indeed entrenched in intrigue and conspiracy and it's rather evoking as a concept)
There is not that much a storyteller can do to "repair" them you either accept them and their cringe or you have to rewrite them from the start...

Oh and obviously let's not forget that they named a giovanny family *Puttanesca* like the Pasta alla Puttanesca a damn pasta dish,

  • @thegamingandy4603

Well, this certainly makes things interesting. The one question still stands in my mind...
Why does the Giovanni have their kiss be labeled as the Kiss of Death, where instead of it being pleasurable to the human victim and making them beg you to bite them more and more, just like Count Dracula's kiss, it induces a very huge amount of unbearable pain upon them?
I never understood that. Perhaps it is an equilibrium to the vampires, showing them all that not all vampire kisses are desirable.
Either way, for the Giovanni vampires, I will need to keep a safe distance.

Old World of Darkness, werewolves had a starting merit: pure blood which gives you bonus social and ancestor dice on given skill dice rolls.
Bone Gnawer street bums only can get the max one bonus dice. The rest can go up to five dots for bonus dice.
For each dot in Pure Blood a werewolf has, it gives a vampire one extra blood point and risk frenzy, vampires can become addicted to werewolf blood.

Interesting.. I've never heard of this Calef.. I always favored the idea of Kindred doping up by feeding their prey copious amounts of narcotics or alcohol first. Which I suppose a Giovanni might do to their victims just to muffle their screams a bit.
