    The KC guys are sort of AVS famous. Cool that you're showing us their rooms. Not only are they enthusiasts, they're also motivated to constantly build and change things. I love all that stuff as well, but when it comes to whether I spend time working on my room vs using it - I always prefer to just be lazy and use it as it is. Kudos to the experimental mindset.

      @@shiscarp I have a CNC so yes I'll build my own. The plan is to put them in IB above the theater in the attic. They're going to be for about 27 Hz down, I'm putting in open baffle columns on each side of the screen with eight Newark 15" drivers in each column. The dipole woofers will carry 27 Hz to 80 Hz. The Newark's are very low cost drivers but have amazing performance in open baffle.
      Once everything is up and running I will add additional Newark drivers in sealed or possibly IB distributed to smooth out bass response across the listening area. All the extra woofers will be in left/right pairs each pair with its own DSP module. These woofers are only $25 each (plus I've got 30 or 40 of them already on hand) so no problem to use as many as necessary to get very uniform response. I know, "$25 woofer" but if you heard them, you would be amazed, everyone else has been. Just don't put them in a box without serious EQ, the Qts on this driver is around 2.0!

    Since you friend kept messing up with you upgrading, here is another one for ya. The DIY subs you have, consider Devastators :-). These are horn loaded subs. I have 4 of them each with 21" pro drivers and they are midbass monsters. They are tuned to 18Hz but there are different versions and some go down to 16Hz. Since you have HoverBoss, 20Hz is all you need from subs and let HoverBoss do the rest. These subs are crazy good and super punchy/heart hitting bass.

    • @shiscarp
      @shiscarp 2 роки тому

      Love it! Horn subs rule. Sounds like Devastators are a happy medium between G-horns and Othorns? I've experienced both of those many times, and both are great but man that Othorn beats the crap out of your chest!! Then there is the Orbit Shifter Pro which I believe is tuned even higher than the Othorn and even more of a chest punch monster.
      You are correct though that I don't need sealed subs with hover. Without hover the lowest I can feel from the upfront subs is 14hz. Below that I can make the sound make terrible sounds but that's the only tangible effect, I feel nothing at the seats.
      So, at some point I might make a change. However I would want them behind the screen so they could only replace the space that would be left by removing 8 stacked 4 cu ft. enclosures (4 per side). I don't think there is a horn sub that would be tall and skinny like that, so I could go with a large ported sub tuned to the mid to high teens.
      Always interesting to think about upgrades... thoughts?

      I'm running the 8 18's off a single Cerwin Vega CV amp. It is running in 2 ohms which I've read can limit amp life but I've been abusing the heck out of that amp for going on 9 years and have had zero issues. The CV 5000 puts out 5000 watts in 2 ohms so each 18" driver is getting 625 watts which doesn't sound like much but these drivers (Stereo Integrity HT18's) are extremely efficient and are rated for 750 watts RMS. I know guys that give them over 1000 watts each, but that would only give me less than 3 db's more and I don't need the extra output anyway.
      With the 12 inch hover drivers I have the 8 drivers in the front row (2 drivers per chair) powered with an inuke 3000dsp, 4 drivers per channel. I have a second inuke 3000dsp that on one channel powers the drivers in the rear seat riser and on the other channel powers the drivers in the seat backs on the front row.

      I do love the 210's and finally got to listen to a pair of them in my room. For whatever reason my room sounds better to my ears with the wider dispersion of the 4722's. If you do go 4722's the upgraded compression driver is well worth it. I can't remember the specific model number off the top of my head but could look it up if you are planning on going that route. JTR's are awesome though. When I had both the JTR 215rt's and the JBL 4722's in my room at the same time I had quite a few people come over at different times to hear them and it was a pretty even split on preference.

He owns the 210's and says they are his all time favorite speaker.

      I stapled a 17 ish foot long strip of velvet (that's how wide my room is) to two 17' long pieces of baseboard. I think the velvet is 4 feet wide, so that's how far I can come out into the room if I want to, but I don't like losing that much carpet space in front of the chairs so I roll one of the baseboards and am about 2.5 feet out into the room with the velvet. Also, it's pretty easy to get the wrinkles out because you just pull on the baseboard that's furthest from the screen and the weight of the velvet + other baseboard are enough to hold it all in place.
      I hope this makes sense, let me know if it doesn't.
      Haha, I just remembered that during the interview I took a step on the baseboard and heard a crack. I'm not too worried about it, I don't ever have a reason to walk on it and it doesn't seem to be any worse for it.

    Damm that's an insane amount of subwoofers. All about the bass! I do got a question 4 you. I have the hoverboss and the magnets fit under the seat because they are not electric. I'm upgrading my seats soon and I will not be able to fit.. I'm planning to either do the cantilevered setup which you have for your front seats or I'm thinking about building a riser and put the subs in riser then the tube then plywood on top of tube then seats. What one do you think feels more natural the cantilevered or the riser with tube and plywood? One more question is the riser itself closed in or is it open?

    • @shiscarp
      @shiscarp 2 роки тому

      I think that both cantilevered and riser feel great, however using the cone up method is more efficient so if you need even more headroom than you have now you would get it. I have cone up in my back row under the couch and I prefer the cantilevered front row because it feels more like I am moving all over instead of more just up an down (not completely up and down, but that's the easiest way to describe it. It's not a huge difference though and like I said, both are great.
      That answer wasn't great, haha, honestly if it were me I would try it both ways and see what you like more. I know that's extra work but it's the only way to be sure!
      My riser is open. I do get bass spl from the riser drivers, but I have timed it to blend pretty well and it's not a ton of spl. Same thing with the front row hover drivers, although they put out less spl.

      Yes. But the 3700 can only process 11 channels total. Use emotiva for your front 3 in the soundbar Use the outlaw for the surrounds and 4 Atmos. Connect both external amplifiers using rca interconnects. Just a heads up the 3700h only has one trigger out so you’ll need to connect the 3700h to emotiva with trigger , and then emotiva to the outlaw via trigger cable. You’ll have to let the AVR power one speaker
