- These are Kent Armstrong Hot Lips Split tube jazz bass pickups and they are in my friend @LowendLobster Bass Surf N' Turf... the control plate electronics are generic but these pickups sound amazing especially with the tone up. They go for about 100 for the set and install pretty easy.

I had a specific reason to do a little research into Kent Armstrong bass pickups today. Now.....I know the product already 'cause Kent made me a custom PU for my Dan Armstrong Ampeg a few years back....
But the guys demoing the pickups are all funk bass players! I think that's a damned good endorsement for any bass-related gear! If yer bass'll do funk, you're good for anything else....

I bought a set for my J bass and they're designated "front" and "rear" am I correct assuming that "Rear" means neck?
Rear means the bridge position pickup and it should be very slightly longer.

You are correct, I love the tone of these
Nice playing and tone.I put a Kent Armstrong Music Man pup in a M.M. kit I built and it sounds great except that the D string is twice as loud as the others.Hard to figure out since it has rails instead if pole magnets.Yours sound great, I wish I'd known of those when I put new Fenders in my J.

That thing is calling out for a third pickup at the neck and some kind of Strat sliding 5 way switch.

You probably won't,the cheapest I've seen is around 140 bucks a set and they're hard to find.I Got a set at Capital music.

I've never been a fan of Kent Armstrong pickups,....they are on the same level as Wilkinson pickups,..(and that isn't saying much)
Good review, this bass build is not good, strings space not balance, and pickups are too bright ! The lobsters is really sucks at bass….
