  • I know, the wind helped me a little bit.
The sling is made out of two strings and a piece of leather. The sling length is 91,5 cm / 36 inches folded.

Nice! 280m is excellent! The bounce can be 5-20 m in my experience. Sometimes it's far, sometimes its not. In that ground the bounce wasn't that far I'd imagine, since it is so soft.
What are the numbers on the stones? serial numbers?
I only mean this to be helpful, not unnecessarily critical, but I think you'd get a lot more power if you started working a step forward into your throw.

I am pretty happy with the distances I get. In the beginning of the year my max was about 150 m and I never thought that I would progress that fast.
When I collect the thrown stones I measure the distance with a range finder and write the distance onto the stones. At home I weigh them and look at their shapes and try to gain some knowledge from it. I was surprised by the shape of the 280 m stone. The aspect ratio seems not the best to me, but it performed well.
Regarding my throwing technique: Yes, I also think that a step into the throw will defintitely help (blocking step, twisting the hips...), but I cant get a fluid motion with the figure 8 style + runup (not yet).
I can get similar initial velocitys with figure 8 and byzantine style, but for distance I use the figure 8, because I get the spinning axis of the stone very well aligned to the direction of flight in 95 percent of the throws. With byzantine it is more like 5 percent.

@@thermalimagingchannel655 Makes sense. The spin axis is practically the only thing that matters, it seems :)
Velocity takes a distant second seat to aerodynamics.
I'm also often surprised with which projectiles go the furthest. Often shape seems to matter little. I think it is wobble. If it wobbles coming out of the pouch, regardless of shape, it isn't going anywhere. If it is nice and spin stabilized with no wobble, the drag is so minimal compared to the former case that it just goes and goes.
