In the first sentence you break down, you translate και as "and". The vocab entry says to use "and" when connecting words or phrases, but to use "even"/"also" when placing before a complete thought. It seems like και isnt connect "o brother" and what follows, but exclaims to said brother that "even in battle the god is teaching the people", and then specifies the people with "τούς του~ Όμηρος αδελφούς" afterward. Does that make sense? Im assuming its hard to translate any single way since there is no context to these sentences? Are there other clues to find the closest possible translation? Thanks
Yes it absolutely is, thats my oversight. I probably shouldn't have done it live purely off the cuff and if I'm honest Im actually really nervous doing live videos. Ill make sure I prep them without the pressure next time. I just wanted to give an authentic look at how to approach tackling a sentence but maybe thats not the best idea. Yes the context or lack thereof can make it tricky sometimes..you have to sometimes realise they are giving sentences to demonstrate a particular use of a given word or structure which is being taught in the module. Sometimes an awareness of that can help when doing the sentences as it can serve as a kind of context if that makes sense. Ill pin the post at the top so people can see your comment.
