Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

LOL the ending of the video! Priceless!!!!
oh the herd of beer drinkers, that's Minnesota for ya right there!
Awesome having a railroad running through your farm! Gotta love watching the trains. I always cut up under the logs to prevent the pinching .
instablaster.
I find WD-40 sprayed on the grill keeps the steaks from sticking and imparts a delightful flavor
🤣🤣 make sure the beer is strong when you do that!!
MN Millennial Farmer I use chainsaw oil on my Mine or lawnmower oil
Since wd40 is made from fish oil it won't hurt you any. 😂 When I was younger we used to spray it on lures to attract the fish.
@@jerrystott7780 I hope you know that's a complete and total myth, even the WD-40 company itself has debunked that along with many others.
@@Alejandro-vb2fx huh, you're right. I pulled up the msds for it, stuff is more toxic than we were led to believe. There goes a myth I've believed in since the seventies.
About to do some drain fixing myself, thanks for the ideas. My 6 yr old daughter told me to let you know she just lost her 2nd tooth. Thanks for being a channel i can watch with my kids. Many blessings, Ed
"TJ is not used to working with a 6 inch pipe"
Thumbs Up immediately on this video
Christian Guffy you know TJ works for a Master Pipe Layer
I wouldn't think he could see a 6 incher Evan if it was attached to him
Gotta love kids. Dad "blah blah blah work work work grilling..." Daughter "I lost my tooth." Kids measure getting older by tooth loss and height gain. I measure getting older by tooth loss and weight gain...kinda the same.
AMEN Frank. I got a call trying to sell me dental insurance. I asked, "If I have less than half of my teeth left, will my rate be less than half price?" They hung up.
Height's just going horiztonal.
Dirt is what someone else owned but if it is yours then you call it soil. My old Ag teacher would get after us for saying dirt.
Reply to Brad not Landa
Dirt is soil without healthy soil probiotics. Petro At poisons kill probiotics. Tilling is actually worse most of the time - depending on your poisons. About 2 years ago it was found that 30% of your human messenger molecules are soil probiotics.
My soils teacher would not let us use word dirt
When it's in the field, it's soil. When it's on the kitchen floor, it's dirt. ☺
@@jimbrew3058 That is correct!
My soils teacher said dirt is whats under your fingernails, soil is what you grow plants with.
Wow!, I guess you do have some clay underneath there. I could see it when the excavator was taking a scoop by your old pipe.
the farm life .. having family around you , is always great
What a great family we continue to see. Keep it up, Dad.
Nothing better than corn on corn action. I would pay to see that anybody else?
Too corny for me.
@@kleinisfijn haha
Letsdig18 needed to show you guys how to take that tree down.
We won't claim to be professionals!!
That Polaris is awesome
Said no one ever. Lol
Very nice video guys!
The time lapse and banjo music is a really nice touch.
Thank you for finally explaining the etymology of the term "drain tile". I have been wondering about that ever since I started watching your channel.
You let a Case on land you own? Pretty risky.
What the heck is that thing 😃
Risky to fall in Love?
If it all goes wrong it’s because of that
And no Big Bud tractors. Really no need for the giants we use out west, Montana. Havre MT, home of once upin a time Northern Manufacturing. The creators of the Big Bud tractors. Best engineered on earth.
He needed to get the job done... :D
Just drank a couple of cans of WD40.
Hope it helps the channel!
Lol, hope they went down well, I'd suggest getting to a toilet!
@@MillennialFarmer Or a doctor
Considering I had to show my id to buy a can of wd40 at my local wallmart folks probably are actually drinking it
Or a Poison Control Center..
@@MillennialFarmer one of my favorite youtubers watches your chanel
That s a crawdad ! At least that's what we call em ?
I think everyone in Central Mn is off to a slow start getting into their fields, it has been such a snowy winter, cold and rainy spring, just when the fields start to dry off more heavy rain comes in. Here's hoping you have a great year!
I clicked on the video because I love learning about farming; I subscribed because of your dry and dirty sense of humor! You make me crack up every video!
Great video. That ending was great. My 7 year old granddaughter came running in the other day and said papa I pulled my tooth myself. Stay safe and God bless.
Weird seeing a digger being used for something other than ripping cash machines out of walls like where I’m from
Ireland is some place🍀🇮🇪😅
Can't bate Ireland
U love to see it
It’s wetter than Ireland there at the moment
Go on Ireland, best country in the world, certainly the greenest !
The depth and quality of the soil is amazing.
You are a good neighbor to have.
Our neighbor objected to everything we did on OUR property, delaying everything and costing lawyer fees.
Our projects didn't affect him at all.
Apparently everyone in the neighborhood had problem with this guy, cause after he moved, everyone started on new projects, not bothering anyone..
I can't believe you let a Case on your property!!!!
It was a little painful lol
@@MillennialFarmer what's wrong with case? is it just family preference or has there been bad experiences?
It’s not a case it’s a sumitomo link belts n cases are just repainted sumitomos
@@brawler4456 I don't actually hate Case at all. We owned a couple back in the day and they were good. I just gotta give crap to the other color!
@@MillennialFarmer I see, now you just gotta walk up to a broken case tractor in a scrap yard or something and say "hey,...are you okay??"
Wonderful video!
Neat to see topsoil that deep; we're lucky to see it much deeper than plow depth.
Dude,, no finish ending of the Oil Filter job, did ya order a new housing and put it on? No finish shot of excavating job or tree ending, no debrushing of you hunting stand down in the trees, no finish ending of your sample 2 acre plot to hold back weeds. Killing me dude by leaving me hanging. lol, Love to know if you ever get to fish at the lake? I love your property line marker cause you showed the end!! lol Take that new brushhog down to the lake and whack a new path!!! lol
Ya crack me up bud! Lets see if you can BBQ ! lol Lets see the finished product.lol Just tweekin ya, youre awesome
All that fancy equipment and not one operator in the bunch!..lol ....thanks for the video's.... Jack
I love trains, and I love farming, your in my paradise
19:37 "You know you don't get dead batteries"
You disconnected the ground wire to the battery?
Ox AO I was moving one of our 8270's to the cart and didn't know it had a battery disconnect.........
Wondered why nothing lit up when I turned the key to the on position.
Nice to see.the farmer looking after the contractor with lunch.
Gotta keep the boys happy!
I was able to find this field on google maps, and seeing the satellite image, agree it will be a lot easier to work after this. 👍
Good idea feeding them. Keeps them on the job.
Hey Zach, have you been considering implementing any of the soil conservation practices that you were talking about in your field work podcast like strip till? Love the podcast by the way 👍
If I lived in America I'd love to be a farm hand on your farm. I have zero experience, no knowledge and I'm accident prone 👌But I'm enthusiastic and I make a good cup of tea and you guys don't drink tea so pretty useless. Guess I'll just keep watching your awesome videos then.
You should ask the tree if it okay😂
🤣🤣
Is that Jim’s ditch?
That was really flowing water.
Nice fix & nice. way to deal with it.
If you fill it in that will be a lot of dirt.
Keep up the good work.
In my fathers' day, they would terrace the field down to the tracks to help prevent erosion and to maintain soil moisture. Today they will probably use a land plane.
You have a wonderful family there Mr. Johnson. I had hoped that you'd make a video of how the tiles work, thanks! Too bad about the weather, I hope you get all of your crops in, and I guess good luck on the crop yield! I'll be pulling for you.
John Day...."how the tiles work" ?? Place the pipe running downhill and watch it flow. The "instructions" for drain laying are pretty short.
@@paulcopeland9035 mr. Copeland. Is this intended as humor? Otherwise I don't understand why you would comment this way.
What charming daughters. Thankyou for their humor.
When I worked on fleet truck we put an air nipple on the tanks for draining so we could air the truck tanks with the truck broken or locked out, I would suggest it for you because it would make trouble shooting cheaper, quieter and “safer” 👍👍
I live the john deere monitor on the ranger
Your friend Randy sure comes in handy
don't tell him that!

This is like an episode from Andrew Camarata (property maintenance in NY)
Great kids.
I see your problem laying that tree down. It was one of those red things hiding under a different color paint.
Their precious little farmers.
all I can say is thank god for farmers mostly because I kinda
like eatting an food is very handy for that wouldn't you say
Really enjoy, your get it done down home vids, real life and honest...........thanks Zach.
Thank you!!
Sure thing, hope you keep makin' vids, I am sure I am not the only one that really enjoys watching!!!!! Have a good one!!
You have a good attitude with your neighbours
Oofta lots of holding wood left on that tree. Love the channel!
glad too see you tossing back the coors light ... from a montana barley grower here might be some of our barley in those cans .. if got a headache was the neighbors barley ... lol ... good luck too getting planting
Crawfish living in road ditches is more common than you think, in West Virginia we even have some blue crawfish, blue crawfish... it’s a real thing
Hydraulic oil is my choice for roller chain. Oil them when there hot.
New to the channel bro Good stuff Farmers are the back bone .
Master pipe layer fixing Zach's pipe
Bob the builder. Good one!
Hi from New Zealand love your videos 👍🚜
Really like that banjo music.
Lottsa nice Fire wood!
Hi I live in kentucky mountains I love your videos they are educational and very informative and interesting! Besides your very good looking country boy.
We fished for Sockeye salmon out west using a bare red hook sprayed with Wd-40.
I understand why the Cottonwood had to go, but it would be mildly interesting to learn how big it would have eventually gotten with so much water available. One near where I grew up was measured at 70 feet. Amazingly for all the cottonwood seeds that came from it, I never remember seeing any new Cottonwood trees grow. The early pioneers were drawn to the huge cottonwood trees as they arrived in the Midwest prairies - a place to water their horses and rest in the shade.
The bigger they get the more lightning likes them. We had one well over 120 feet tall and had an eyewitness who claimed (RIP) it was a mere sapling when he debated hand sawing it down pre1910. Massive excavator project when it got fatally struck. 8 foot wide limbs 40 feet high. When the 2/3 of the tree hit the ground the operator said the trampoline effect jumped the 40k lb excavator off the ground. A lot of regret no one got pictures of it going down. I somewhere have pictures where it made a 1000 bu cart and 300 hp tractor look comically small. I have never seen another tree in the Midwest close to how big this fenceline weed got.
Damn I miss that type of work.
Aug 28, 2019 - 394,849 views - I've never seen a video with this many views except for music videos. Congratulations, you are becoming famous the world over.....
Love your vids, keep up the good work
A little advice when limbing trees, start from the tip and work back to the trunk. Actually the best way to have taken that tree down would have been to dig around it with the excavator and push it over. That way the stump comes with it.
This is unbelievable,
toronto ont canada - interesting video - you should get more in put from your dad - it would be good to see him i bit more often
Finest farm follies on the youtubes.
nice .. soon it's a new one. tooth in place .. and she is even happier when it has grown out ..
Cool operation. Funny girls so cute. Found this channel..LOVE IT
Your neighbours going to love you.
it continues under the road and across my land for 400 feet before going into a river. also, water flows down hill whether in a pipe or not lol
You noted you got a new Weber grill...check out the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050. It is absolutely the greatest grill I have ever owned. Hopper-fed, WIFI/Bluetooth controlled fan for maintaining temp, 1050 sq. in. of grill space...this thing is awesome. I use Jealous Devil lump charcoal in it. I was able to smoke an 11-pound pork butt over the course of 16 hours, and the temp held steady the whole time. All I had to do was refill the charcoal a couple of times.
The size of your shop makes me feel like I've been a failure in life restoring old ski-doos in a 14x20 garage, but I don't farm.
logpile13 as long as you have a shop and you’re able to work that’s a huge win in my book.... failure is when you have a shop and can work but don’t or won’t that’s what makes a failure not the size of a shop.. and I bet everyone brings a ski doo to you when it needs repairs don’t they?
I personally use Howes Lubricant instead of WD-40. Ive found with dealing with 40-50 year old classic cars that Howes is the best for Rusty junk!!
Yeah, I'm not used to dealing with 6" pipe either! That would be frustrating. Lol
Lol
First time in construction history gets scoop one day and work starts the next.
Lol that's what I was thinking
Some corn on corn 😏😏😏
Farm it all!
Such a good video! Love when you use atv and mowers in the video. keep it up never gonna stop watching
Soil looks rich in loam. Nice.
That's because all the soil washed off the top of their hills.
Man, sucks to see trees like that taken down. Totally understand why it had to though. Hope you plant plenty of replacements for wind control.
It was just 1 lousy cottonwood. they're a weed around here
Hey, trees a tree! But I will agree, cottonwoods are annoying, especially in the spring with all those dang cotton balls blowing everywhere, egads. Sometimes get frickin dust devil made from them here in the Detroit area.
Put in catch ponds in corners. Use to water fields. Pump to water truck.
corn on corn, sounds like a dirty movie
Weed: any plant in an undesirable location.
That tree is no different than any other weed, it had to go!
It's the farmer in you my grandpa was same way make sure guys are well fed and always bring them drinks beer when day done
Put some rip rap stone around that inlet. Will keep the debris out but the water draining 💧😎🍺
Was going to post the same comment, you beat me to it..!
look at all that unregulated water!!! oh the humanity!
Coors Light - Pee in a can
If I spray WD40 on the inside of my thighs it keeps the chafing down!
Excellent idea! Lol
I always say "Grill some carcasses".
That should be a Kinze planter they are the best I use to run 8.5 mph and it never missed a beat
My uncle always had a few sticks of dynamite stashed for periodic tree and stump removal/relocation.
Neighbor: Dang! You barely missed dropping that stump in your pickup bed. Tough luck on the truck roof.
Uncle: ya, but was trying to land it on the wood pile on the other side of the chicken coop.
good thing you guys are farmers and not in the forestry business!
As far as dead batteries in your vehicles. Install a high amp hour battery in a rolling cart, make a set of custom length 0 gauge copper jumper cables with high-grade clamps..When not in use, keep a trickle charge on the battery cart.Love the channel
In Saskatchewan we call it a seeder not a “planter”.
MrDonnyt that’s because they are different types, a seeder is different than a planter
This is a second video that I have watched on this channel and I’m a subscriber now, don’t really care about farming but the way this channel creates content - all of a sudden you want to farm too! This is cool!
My favorite comment in this video was about “socks” the guy replies “I wear blue shop rugs instead” lmao
wow, new to your channel...so neat, I was hoping you could give an episode for explaining how to get into farming, farming economics in general, and your personal economic situation...thank you so much if you can or can not, really awesome channel
Sam, buy 1,000 acres and about $1M of equipment, then break it and fix it repeatedly...
