Thank you for taking the time. I have been owning a Vintage Strat and I really love it (I owned and know the "real deal"). Never looked at the wiring, and after watching this video, I probably never should. Waiting for delivery of a VSA500 today, my second guitar of that brand. Excellent value for money but the wiring, whoa. Thank you for taking the time for this video.

Vintage guitars are unreal for the money, i started my guitar journey with this brand. There V100's (les pauls) are epic! I bought one in flamed ice t off of ebay for £400 with upgraded pots, caps, switch, pickups, cts, orange, switchcraft and a Duncan 59 in the neck, the bridge pup was a wilkinson and sounded excellent!! My mate who is a Gibo owner and fanboy couldnt fault it and couldn't believe the sound and playability. I also had the v52 and upgraded the electronics and a set of fender twisted tele pups and again it was epic and looked stunning, they do a really good job of painting there guitars, the wood grain is lovely. Amazing first guitars, and spend £200-£300 on upgrades and you have a pro instrument. No need to upgrade the bridges or tuners as they are flawless even on the V100, mines held tune forever due to the neck angle me thinks. There strats v6's are also epic, the wilko neck pup is a beast but wasn't fond of the bridge pup, never use the middle pup so cant comment on it. You cant buy guitars at this price with the quality of tuners(locking) and the wilkinson bridges plus the stock pups. Get it them set up to your preference and you have a guitar for life, only reason i sold mines was because i got a fender pro 2 tele deluxe for my 30th from the family which came with horrible fret buzz and high frets which cost me a set up. On the price u mention you can buy these second hand £300-£350 cheaper than a player series and spend the £300-£350 difference upgrading the pots and electronics, pups and you will have a £550 guitar thats still cheaper than a player series and will play and sound like an American fender and thats from someone who has owned these guitars and currently has a pro 2 fender tele and a fender performer strat!!

I just acquired 2 Vintage guitars, both aged, a blue Strat, and a butterscotch Tele, both used, I put a new nut on the strat, set it up nice, and I love it, intonation is now dead on open chords up high, harmony 3rds at the 11th fret are dead on. I changed the pups in the Tele and filed a few of the nut slots just a tad to get them perfect. I love both guitars, they are my faves. I've owned over 200 guitars including Custom Shop Gibsons and Fenders over the years. I paid $350 and $380 for these aged Fender copies

In the UK price wise this would sit between a Squier affinity and a classic vibe, the general consensus is that Vintage are on a par with the classic vibes for a slightly lower price.

I've got a Vintage V1300 acoustic which I've had for about 15 years now. An all solid instrument bought it cheap on a whim from a local store which quickly became my favourite instrument, so much so that my Lowden, which cost 10 times more, doesn't get played that much. I think the secret with buying a brand like Vintage is to buy from a store rather than over the net. Not really feasible at the moment, but hopefully soon....

    Great video. Really honest.
I'm quite a fan of Vintage brand guitars.
I've got four of them. Three LP style (called V100s) and one SG style (called a VS6). I also used to own one of these V52 teles.
The Vintage stuff has really dropped in quality since about 2015. Ironically, since they changed to a gold logo from the old perloid style one.
The older models are so much better and can be found second hand for really reasonable prices.
I don't know if they changed factory or suppliers a few years back, but the newer ones I have tried in shops are really disappointing.
The older stuff even rivalled Epiphone and Mexican Fender guitars in my opinion.

I’m not surprised at the QC issues Landon. Dave Simpson tried to review one of their guitars recently and gave up as he had to send them back so many times. The QC was that bad. It’s not always been the case as earlier ones were great value. I used to have an excellent V6. The Wilkinson stuff is very good quality and very reasonable. Hopefully they’ll get their act together soon as they had such a good name in the past. So I reckon you got a goodish one. Great review as usual Landon 😀👍👍

I felt your pain with the pickguard removal. You didn't return to comment on the issue but it looks like this is the trade-off with having a 22 fret Fender style fingerboard AND a pickguard that fits flush to the bridge plate. It looks nice but the fingerboard overhangs the pickguard making removal a tad tricky. I bought a 22 fret Squier Paranormal Offset Telecaster this week and it's wonderful. I have no intention of removing the pickguard as yet but I can see it has the same overhang. However, there is some wriggle room at the bridge so it should lift out easier. Thanks for all you do, Keep on Rockin' in the Free World!

    • @landonbailey

some of the body finish must have been wet, or the neck, and caused things to get stuck. I think!

    • @Shaun.Stephens
      @Shaun.Stephens 3 роки тому

The problem is the body-mounted neck pickup stops the pickguard from coming off as there's a part of the guard trapped between the neck overhang and the pickup and it won't bend to come out. It's the same on Encore Blaster E2 guitars (which are also touched by Wilkinson).

The thing with the vintage v52 is if you upgrade all hardware (which is pretty cheap), you get an amazing guitar. All other are issues you can easily fix through a proper setup (which you'll most likely do with a classic vibe anyways). What you don't get on a CV is: A comfortable neck (it's think as hell), a good tonewood or neck material (basswood + indian laurel if i'm not mistaken), and the overall vintage feel to it. Take a vintage v52, fix it up, and you got yourself a really good telecaster.

I have 3 Vintage guitars currently, a "Fillmore" V6JMH where I have switched the neck to another Vintage V6 neck with a maple finger board, an older V6 before they started with the Reissued and Icon series that I have turned into a baritone and a stock Jerry Donahue V58. before that I had a Vintage Advanced AV6 which I sold, which was a mistake, so you could say I'm a bit of a fan. I really like this review as it points out where Vintage guitars have good points and where you might find downsides, very honest. If I was in the market for a "classic" looking Strat or Tele that didn't say Fender on it I would still look at the Vintage offerings before a Squire. I find in general they are more guitar for the money, but that's in Europe and not the other side of the pond where they might be more expensive. Trevor Wilkinson's pickups and bridges are great and that's where Vintage guitars beat other brands. The woods and general construction of the guitars are usually in good order and as good if not better than the competition. Quality review, liked this video.

I own this guitar, and have gigged it. It's not bad, probably a decent buy, if you see it second hand. I've got a classic vibe tele coming next week, I'm eager to compare the two... The Vintage V100 is a decent LP copy and V6 is a popular strat copy. Overall, Vintage cover most 'classic' shapes at good prices, but QC can be an issue.

  • @zachawav
    @zachawav 2 роки тому +3

I believe I have the v100, mine specifically being a Les Paul copy with a cherry sunburst finish. I bought it at a hock shop for $250 CAD back in December 2016. At that point I had only been playing two really cheap stratocaster copies. At the store they had a whole room of guitars hung on a wall where you could tryout them out. I probably played 15 different guitars while I was there, and the v100 really blew me away with it's playability, and sound. It was listed for $329 but I was able to get the price dropped down to $250. I have really enjoyed my time with the guitar, so I was a little disappointed when you said that you didn't have a great experience with your Vintage guitar. Maybe you'll have a better follow-up if you ever get another Vintage guitar.

I've had a Vintage V2 Tele for four of years now.
Similar but black and no skunk stripe.
I quite like the broader neck, it makes me play in a slightly different way; still just as bad though
One thing I DID find with that Wilkinson bridge saddle compensation method is that I got 'Sitar' type buzzing when the string rounded side was the open face.
I filed flats on those open rounded faces and the 'Sitar' buzzing stopped.
The bridge pickup was a little microphonic so I replaced the mounting springs underneath with rubber tubing and that stopped it.
Oh And I put an Electrosocket Jack Plate on, but I'd do that on any Tele.

Read some similar tales to yours, among some other claims. I think the brand might have a bit of trouble knowing what they are and what their products are and who they are for and why those people want those guitars.
Anyway; it spooked me a bit, but into a 2015 Mexican strat that I am very happy with. It is easy to get inspired playing the strat, and I’m not sure having to explain the difference between vintage and Vintage every time I pulled it off the shelf would often put my mind at ease.

I've got an 'Encore' T style, "E2 Blaster Series, designed by Trevor Wilkinson" and the body looks identical to this. The routes are the same, it has a flat part where the jack goes in, it's identical, made from the same CNC routine.
The Encore came with 'Wilkinson' pickups (but ceramic rather than alnico) and the neck pickup is also body-mounted so that you need to take the (22 fret) neck off to remove the pick guard (I've left my pick guard off and have replaced the pickups, bridge and switchgear). The Encore tuners are (or were - I swapped them out too) different to the tuners on this 'Vintage' guitar but I'm pretty sure the guitars are from the same company.

I just bought one of this brand . it was the model V62 like relic model because I liked it very much when I saw it in the shop and the price was good enough 3 hours away from the Uk so.
Pros all those that Landon said cons ...I had to sand the frets and picks are ok but I dont like them much .. easy job , bridge was ok screwed and so, I am going to change the pick ups for twisted fender pick ups as an upgrade I hope.. and I will change all these wires and soldering work just in case. I can't wait for it. Ferals were also flushed okay in the back. I was lucky I guess hehe

I have several Vintage guitars and they all sound and play great. I have an awesome Nash Tele and I would say the V52 Icon that I owned after A/B ing it it sounds about 75% as good as the Nash however live you probably could not tell the difference. On stage from a distance the relic'ing looked great on the V52 but up close the relic finish is not even close to the quality of the Nash but again for 300 bucks used compared to 2K for the Nash??? So I started wondering....Now I own 3 Vintages and 2 Nash guitars. Honestly my Vintage V100 cherry burst is better than any Gibson or Heritage branded Les Pauls that I have owned. It is my least expensive yet favourite guitar. The pickups sound dirtier than a Les Paul but the action is great and it stays in tune!

I bought one of these a few months back and the quality control is absolutely terrible. So much so that i had no neck pickup. Opening the control plate revealed a floating hot wire from the pickup(the ground was soldered). Like yours the soldering was sh1t so i just pulled it all to bits and replaced it with an Oak Grigsby switch and soldered it up properly.

Thanks for the review. Ideally, I Would have liked some comments on the fret work beyond the edges, but other than that a useful review. I was a bit surprised at how nice it sounded. Nice and clean/ bright without any harshness. A nice balanced tele tone. Interested to know what they cost. Reviewer implied it was comparably to a classic vibe tele. If that’s true, I’d prob get a squire. I’m in the market for $400 beater tele that doesn’t NEED upgrading. Based on the sound, I’d consider one if I could find one in a store nearby.

10:37 - 'Fly By Night'! 😁👍 And a couple of differences I noticed in comparison with the Squier CV 50's: You have to take the pickguard off in order to adjust the neck pick-up's height (which is actually an original Fender Tele spec), but you also can choose between top- and back-loading the strings, which is quite cool. Also has one fret more and supposedly a graphite nut 🙂

I am an electrical professional from Germany.
Unfortunately, I have to say that the soldering work on the pots and on the switch is very dilitant.
In Germany you get a warning for something like that and the second time you get fired.
It really is a beautiful guitar but something like that shouldn't go through any quality control.
How does everyone else see it?

The first thing I'd do with any T-style is put in a 4-way switch with treble bleed, so the wiring wouldn't bother me too much. The pots would also have to go. The ferrules are annoying, but the rest of the hardware looks good. I also love a mirror finish on the fretboard. The wood and routs look okay. It would be a decent mod platform with keep-able hardware, but there are cheaper options available. Fretboard radius?

In terms of fit and finish, the Squier wins, no doubt. But in terms of tone as well as playability, i prefer my Vintage V6 like 80% of the time. it might be due to the slight differences that adds up though, like pickups, fretboard wood and radius. The bridge on the Vintage V6 is definitely superior, though its still made of zinc, but significantly thicker. the staggered string holes on the block also help a lot with tuning stability. I love them both though.

For what its worth, if anyone does discover crappy soldering like this in their new guitar, I'd say just learn to solder and re-solder the joints that aren't any good. At least that's what I'd do. I know that's not the point, nor what you'd expect when you shell out 4 or 500 for a guitar, but soldering really isn't very difficult at all. That said, it does make you wonder why a company that sells guitars would use people that can't solder to put together their products. LOL.

I bought a Vintage V6 Icon distressed (strat copy) second hand a few weeks ago. It plays really well and although I don't like relic finishes, at the price I got it, it was worth taking a chance. When I got it the volume know was already faulty and I have to agree, the stock wiring is terrible. I do like the rest of the hardware though. As I had to replace the volume knob anyway, I put some Fender Pure Vintage 65 pickups, a switchcraft jack and CTS pots in it. With those upgrades I paid about $450 in total and for that money, it is an amazing playing and sounding guitar.
I also had a V100 Lemondrop (Peter Green Les Paul copy) years ago. I sold it but it was a pretty nice guitar as well.
I have to say, if you can find one used, it is a brand worth taking a chance on. I would never buy a guitar in this price range new, as you can always find they used for about 50% of the price here.

Mine was second hand and the original Wilkinson pickups had already been replaced by Tonerider’s Vintage plus versions and the guitar had had a professional set up, action, fret dressing etc. etc. It has good playability, sounds like a Fender Telecaster, but exactly how close mine is, I can’t say, I’m not a good enough player to tell, or do the ad-lib ‘road test’ stuff UA-camrs do. Others have likened these particular pickups to those employed on the Squier classic vibe, and there is some evidence that they are produced at the same factory. However, you can’t infer from that they are identical, necessarily. I have two other Vintage brand guitars, the Paradise AFD LP slash copy, and the other that’s shaped a bit like a Gibson SG, bought many years ago for me at Xmas. The latter was horrible to play, but years later I finally plucked up the courage to set it up properly and then it was much better. Sound-wise it’s very average, but it does the humbucker thing, (naturally as it’s got Wilkinson humbuckers fitted, doh). The AFD is the one I play most regularly, I love it. I have a Gibson Les Paul studio, but that stays in its case. I have too many ding hazards in my overly cluttered music/home office room. The AFD is so close in sound to the LP and so much cheaper, it’s great for copying guitar parts in songs originally done with a humbucker guitar. In theory those Vintage models have the same pups fitted, but they do sound different, maybe something has changed in 15 years or so? My overall opinion is that I wish these guitars had been around early 1970s, (along with all the tuition resources, videos, tab etc. etc.). I’m sure there’s other equally good budget brands, if you do a little research to avoid the ‘don’t buys’. I have to say the example examined here does look quite poorly put together, and that soldering especially so.

A violin maker from the city of Poznań in Poland recommends this brand and sells these guitars in his own store, because they are decent and on a Pole's pocket. We do not earn in dollars, not in euros, but in zlotys. After the purchase, he sets it up right away. This could be a really good starting choice, and who knows if it might not be better than the Squier Vibe. Your guitar looks quite impressive and I'm surprised how they made the frets in it.
