Saturday rock show was the best rock programme, never equaled.. he was the best dj never to be beaten…how I wished I hadn’t lost all those tapes of his shows..nice item this. 10/10
Absolutely loved Fluff Freeman. He loved pop music and made his shows totally unmissable. Great radio voice. Pick of the Pops was just magical. RIP Fluff. Thank you for the music.
"Ole Fluffy Freeman's fab voice, the upbeat music, the countdown.....it all made great listening!. He's greatly missed, but left behind a great legacy!!.......Great Mate!!!".👌👌
‘Fluff’ Freeman was a legend and part of a great line up of BBC DJs in the 60s/70s and early 80s! He’d turn in his grave to see the ‘Woke’ Lefties that now grace Radio 1 and 2, which is why ratings have declined drastically since the 90s and 2000s. Great video, keep up the great work! Happy Christmas to you and all of the other subscribers! 🎉🎉
I remember seeing Alan at the 99 Club in the Bridgford Hotel Nottingham about 1969, one of my favourite haunts at the time. Anyone remember Kurt and Zak? He wasn't the DJ but enjoying a meal with friends. He seemed a great bloke, being interrupted between almost every mouthful of food, signing autographs and saying hello. As to his DJ performances he had a fantastic voice and manner of presentation. Rip Fluff and thank you.
I was sitting in the County Hotel bar in Taunton,. Somerset, UK in 1974, 17 years olf, lied to get a pint when in walked Alan and sat down beside me with his drink. Lovely charming man, his voice was just like it was on the radio. In the same place my dog bit Harold Wilson's finger when he went to stroke it. Happy memories of the County Hotel!
I used to go down to my gran's every Sunday afternoon, and would take great delight in Alan Freeman running down the record chart, which renewed every week. There are few of us who know thar before the inception of Radio 1, the two best radio channels to hear the latest pop music were Radio Caroline, where the likes of Kenny Everett and Tony Blackburn worked; and Radio Luxembourg with its trademark drifting, which you'd have to tune back on station, when you could barely hear the songs. Great nostalgia, great times when entertainments were still too expensive for many.
Radio one will never be the same. I was always glued to it as a teen especially on a Sunday taping all the hits. I always use to look forward to Radio 1 summer shows when broadcasting from the beach. Happy days ❤️
I absolutely loved listening to Fuff, I would record songs from his show pick of the pops, on Sundays on my reel to reel tape recorder. I still have them to this day. I will joined the band of people who say he was the greatest D J, of them all.
In was lucky enough to be friends with Alan and sat in on many of his shows including his brilliant daily show in 1972 on Radio 1. He recorded some voice overs for my own show which I still use!
As one radio presenter to another, thank you for doing this video. His timing with records was superb, knowing when to talk and when not to talk. It is a very difficult target to reach. I try to do it but it is nigh on impossible to get close. Thank you for the reverence you showed to this great man. I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas and the same goes to all your subscribers xx
Thanks for the great video reminding us of The Legend Alan 'Fluff' Freeman. Absolutely brilliant star he was with his unique sound and presentation. There are many personalities from the past that have left their mark and can never be replaced. Keep up the great work 👍 😃
Hello pop pickers! Alan 'Fluff' Freeman was one of a kind. He had that warmth about him that most loved. I always think him and John Peel were the old grandfathers in time of radio DJ's. Thanks for sharing Paul. Merry Christmas and a very happy new year. 🎅🏻
Ah, the great Alan 'Fluff' Freeman MBE., the greatest disc jockey of them all. Thanks for the video, and hello Pop Pickers. A Merry Christmas to everyone.
I remember him his voice nice man he was good friends with Noel Edmonds of swap shop too .Thank you Paul as always I love the story of the people it's a lovely tribute as always
Fantastic video and thanks for posting. He, like John Peel and Johnnie Walker played pretty much what they wanted to within reason and said very little in favour of decent music. His rock shows were legendary and he also worked for BFBS and I so much looked forward to listening when overseas. Much missed, and as others have stated a total professional with a great sense of humour. Pity the other clowns on Radio 1 and 2 in the UK cannot remotely follow his professionalism. Keep up the good work Paul - its very much appreciated.
Greetings & Salutations from Saskatchewan Canada! Although I have never heard of this fine gentleman, he and I never the less are kindred spirits as I to at one time worked in radio as a D.J. It was a wonderful job. Loved it! Taking this time now to wish you Paulie a fantastic holiday season ⛄ Merry Christmas!!! 🎄 -Jerry
Paul, Thank you for sharing your memories with us. Even though some of us don't know them, you bring these people to light. Greetings from Vegas, I hope you have a Merry Christmas, and you enjoy them with family and friends and many blessings throughout the New Year, too. 🎄🎅🥳
He was a gent and did a great job of presenting the charts. I liked the fact he just got stuck in and didn't hang around. No primadonna antics unlike a certain collleague of his I once met in a Southend nightclub. RIP mate.
The best radio dj of the 70s 🤩 I remember my mum putting the radio on early morning as we were getting ready for school and Alan Freeman with a cheerful and chirpy voice (good morning pop pickers) he was one of the best radio DJs 📻 RIP Alan 🙏 Thank you for the walk down memory lane Paul 😃

The best review of Fluff's life I've heard Paul , with some rare long-forgotten andecdotes ,him taking over P.O.T.P from David Jacobs in 1961, originally broadcast on the Light Programme on Saturday Nights at 10.40p.m , moving to the well-remembered Sunday 4.00 p.m time slot with Units 1 to 4 - ' this week's Top 10 !.I also recall ' Play Your Hunch ' in the early 60s, Fluff replacing pioneer DJ, Jack Jackson .
Good video Paul! I lived in Maida Vale for 15 years and I had the same GP as Alan and I would frequently see him and Leslie Phillips around the area. That was back in the 90s/00’s.
Thanks - for another informative clip with good history too, a nostalgic trip back to my 'yoof' // Around 1962 - I would record 'Pick of the pops' - 'Alan Freeman'.. on a reel to reel tape recorder.. a 'Cossar 1601'.. no wires or USB !, I dangled the microphone in front of the radio speaker, to regularly record the charts,.. Cheers too for the info' on Gibbs' tribute song.,. I took a look here on Y/T.
I would always rush home on a Saturday evening to record the Rock Show, loved the jingles and real rock/metal and prog. Also found full radio episodes online to listen again. Bless you, Uncle Fluff.
Pick of the pops was the highlight of my Sundays whilst preparing a roast dinner. Djs from 67 onwards were great. Didn't know about his other dabbles in entertainment, he was a one off, thanks for the story of his life.
Fluff wea awesome wat a DJ he was a genius loved this paul it was so memorial I loved him on top of the pops thanks paul your a gem see you in the new year 👍👍🎅🎅👍👍
Thanks for this. Always a big fan of Fluff. Sad to see the gold lettering has largely gone off his memorial. Could not the entertainment industry have it re-gilded for him? Having checked through my cassette tapes of his Sunday afternoon broadcasts of Pick of the pops (late 80's - early 90's), I see that the very short clip that starts this video (0:00 - 0:13) was broadcast on the 30/06/1991. Just thought I would mention it in case anyone was wondering.

Along with Tony Blackburn and Noel Edmunds Alan Freeman had that iconic radio voice. When I left school in 1977 I went to work for woolworths. Alan Freeman was promoting a Ktel record. He came to our store in Brentwood Essex...to sign autographs..used to love his top 40 run down of the charts sunday nights...and the saying that made him famous " pop pickers "..well researched Paul...thanx for all your hard work..
