My mother in law is 105 years old, still mentally sharp as a tack has her hair and all of her teeth, eggs and bacon for breakfast, she likes her bacon soggy not crispy and thick butter on her toast. I think the burnt toast (charcoal) helps with digestion and also lots of homemade soups, stews , pot roast. She is an excellent cook and they rarely went out to eat as my father- in -law did not like the taste of the food in restaurants. They always had a huge garden and used cow shit ( her words) to fertilize. 😂
Now her son takes care of her, and they still have a big garden plenty of fresh non gmo, organic fruits and vegetables to go along with the meat they have for dinner every night. ❤
My grandmother on my dad’s side lived to 102 and ate home cooked meals up until she went to a nursing home.

Here's a fact that always comes to mind when I hear debates about cholesterol, consuming animal meats and fats...etc. My grandmother and both Great-grandmothers ate (what some people would consider) an astonishing amount of animal fat on a regular basis. All three lived well into their 90's.

YES! My great grandma lived into her 90’s. She didn’t eat cereal for breakfast, she ate bacon and eggs and burnt toast with butter. I don’t know why she always burned the toast.
I never noticed what she ate for lunch. Never occurred to me before, but now I wonder if she just at 2x/day. She was not obsessed with food. It was a minor event in her day. Dinner was meat and vegetables and occasionally a homemade, tart berry pie of some sort. So tart, I remember not really liking it then, but I probably would now.

Anecdotal is a word that has changed meaning in the last 100 years. It used to mean direct experience, as top of the line evidence anyone could expect. Since the advent of the degreed class taking over society anecdotal has come to mean the exact opposite, caca.
It is now a word used to disempower and bludgeon into submission, the average man who doesn't have a peer reviewed study behind every opinion he forms watching reality go by in his life. Like it used to be for the last 300,000 years of homo sapiens time on this world before the advent of the degree. @@TerriblePerfection

LDL is causal to heart disease about as well as life guards are causal of drowning is a better comparison. Elevated cholesterol in someone with heart disease is a response to repairing systemic damage. Some of that cholesterol gets glycated and sticks around even longer. None of it is whats causing heart disease. Its elevated blood pressure, inflammation, and glycated damage to the blood vessels.

What causes clots or repairs to fail? Why do arteries not get damage if it is cholesterol causing the damage? What might the Glycocalyx have to do with all this? What might plant sterols have to do with this? At least we are asking and looking. 👍

I work in disability and healthcare as a support worker and we are training all the time and when there are no medical contradictions in a middle aged person’s medical history I say to them that I’m 54 and I eat meat and it makes me feel great.
Just the smell seems to make me produce happy endorphins which I like to think is my body saying “Yes! Good!” so if it makes you feel like this too then eat meat.
We have to do our best and we’ll probably live til we’re 80 but at some point some folks say “yeah but we might just drop dead, too!”

My LDL is high at 173, TC at 250, HDL. I have been mostly carnivore for about a month, so ketovore, basically. After my GP raised his eyebrows I sent him your videos. For me personally, I believe it depends what else is going on in the body. I have no arterial plaque per CT and MRI of heart last month. I know if your serum calcium is high, it raises your LDL in correlation. I had past parthyroid issues and a current autoimmune issue that raises blood calcium levels.
I also know those on blood thinners cannot do Vitamin E or Omega3 supplements, but when you eat things like fatty fish, which contains B12, Omega3, Vitamin E, the LDL goes down (in my personal experience). I personally think that could potentially be due to reduced inflammation with the antioxidants. I now supplement red meat with a portion of fatty fish until my body improves on the diet, and have included Vitamin C, which also reduces LDL. Overall, I am believing that our toxic diet has just left our bodies, generation after generation, starving for antioxidants to offset the stress of toxic foods, additives, sugar, antibiotics, pesticides, plastics.

Just a few points of interest.
Inflammation is a huge concern of any diet, so looking for those inflammation markers, mainly C reactive protein, and homocysteine levels are extremely important.
If the circulatory system is inflamed, the body is scrambling to repair small damages with plaque in the circulatory system as an attempt to keep things under control.
When there is a constant assault, that's where the problem is.
Antioxidant intake helps tremendously, so if you are a meat eater, fresh organic fruits and veggies help combat the effects of inflammation in addition to things like organic extra virgin olive oil and avocado fats.
Another important issue is where is the meat coming from? Is it organic grass fed meat, or is it conventionally raised beef that is loaded with GMO grains and pesticides?
I bet 99.9% of your viewers can't afford 100% organic grass fed beef, so they are eating garbage meat, especially if it's from a restaurant. (Most restaurants use budget quality foods and oils to cook with).

It is clear and has been for a long time that vascular damage is the cause and cholesterol reacts to this damage regardless of the level. Stop the damage and the result ends as well. We also know that high animal fat and protein consumption do not cause damage. Smoking, drinking, and high blood sugar are the top 3 causing damage when it is not a genetic defect.

What I have seen in my patients is that LDL levels are only important in type A bloodtypes, plus less so in AB's. If you look into German New Medicine though, it is said that cholesterol is only there to act as a sort of spackle, to repair damage to the arterial intima, caused by a shock of some sort (mental, emotional, physical, or spiritual) that causes a shock pattern in the brain. That then causes LDL to be sent to torn areas for repair, and it is meant to go away as the causative factor (conflict) is dealt with. Whether you believe in that or not, I can tell you that the cholesterol studies that all the pharmaceutical crap is based on are flawed (for the most part). In order to get true information, you have to ask the right questions, not be looking to make money on some drug to "fix" the problem. We need cholesterol, not only to make hormones, but for so many other things. I was first clued in to the ridiculousness of the supposed cholesterol problem back in my early 20's (1970's) when my doctor just about fell off his chair when he asked me what I ate every week (3+ dozen eggs, +1 lb steak per day, mushrooms boiled in butter--which the steak was then dipped into--, half loaf of sourdough bread slathered with butter, a couple pounds of bacon, lots of cheeses, etc.) and my total cholesterol was 90, with the other components all normal. I laughed when he told me that even though my cholesterol was "lower than ever heard of" (at that point), that it wasn't healthy and I needed to change my diet. I never had problems until I went full vegan for 4 years (boy was THAT ever a mistake!).

My type A- family all had high cholesterol levels. No heart issues in the women. Lots of osteo. Two men effected. However the two men were daily whisky and beer drinkers, non obese over weight, smokers who preferred fishing like activities. Average German style diets.

    My experience to this point:
20+ years on a statin and still being "high" on most labs.
4+years ago doc added Ezetimibe which gave me worse side-effects than the statin.
Got a new provider who had me do a CAC (Which I'd NEVER even heard of even after 20 years of having statins pushed on me by at least 3 other providers). CAC score came back zero (I was 53 at the time)
Got off the statin but stayed on the SAD for two years at an obese body weight (BMI 30ISH)
    On 3/1/22 I went low carb/keto.
At my annual physical in Jan 2023 my LDL was 365, Trigs were 90ish, HDL was 72 (so just outside the #lmhr criteria on the last two). I was also 70 pounds leaner, BP was the best it's been since HS, and arthritic joints hurting less. I got my provider to order an NMR and none of the individual particle counts came back throwing flags but my provider was still freaking out.
I'm still on a low carb, basically ketovore diet and my BMI is now 23. I'll ask for a new CAC next month and go from there. I'm interested to see what happens with those lipid numbers now that my weight has been fairly static for a bit.
Keep the great content coming, Dr. Baker.

Yes, I have a similar situation. High Total Cholesterol, HDL & LDL. But a rockstar ratio. Arterial plaque scan revealed zero plaque. All other biomarkers are on point. My doc is dialed in enough to my lifestyle to not push statins or other SOC protocols on me. Thanks for sharing this study, Shawn!

It's been 6 1/2 years for me being on a very low carb elimination diet, mostly animal products with a cup of coffee or tea I put my collagen in for the day. I just went to a new primary care physician & he knows I'm a nutritionist. I've run the usual battery of tests... cholesterol is "high" for the arbitrary pressed current numbers 222. Triglycerides are low, HDL is good, LDL is just over their normal arbitrary numbers. Basically Doc said my tests all look good but sent me for a CT scan for a coronary calcification score. Between us, I really hope it comes back with nothing, because I feel like I'm N1 to him & I want to be a shining example of what we're SUPPOSED to be doing for optimal health. My sister is a nurse & surgeon's assistant ... she is even confused why he wanted the test. I believe he wanted it because my grandparent had heart issues, but why then did he not care about the rest of their health & only focus on my bio parents (neither of them have any cardiac issues)? I should find out soon what the scan results are.

SAD diet until 7 months ago, then ketovore. By definition I’m a LMHR for a few months now. Recent CAC 175 (likely not from new diet). I am hoping to find some results from the handful of study participants that started with elevated CAC to see how they did. So many things to consider, but overall good news. My wife has a zero CAC and is LMHR carnivore.

From what I’ve read , serum chloresterol levels are a fairly poor predictor of CAD risk. ApoB seems to be a much more reliable marker. So what did this study find in relation to LDL and ApoB?

I have had high l d l cholesterol exactly as the video says. I did have a CAC test in Bellevue Wa. My arteries were average. The Dr. that did my test wasn’t surprised. She did recommend continuing on statins. What she didn’t know is that I had not been on any statins. I think big pharmaceutical companies profit big time by way over proscribing statins. I do take red rice yeast from the health food store.

What I've known forever because I was blessed with common sense. I'm 63 have about 10 percent body fat, can run forever, I get out 3-4 times a week (4-10 miles;plus I run shuttle sprints here and there) I also do plenty of strength and striking training too. I've always followed a "see" food diet. I literally eat anything and everything, don't worry about carbs, sugar or fat. I just train, do some intermittent fasting 3-4 days a week (have done a couple 3 day fasts) and watch my portions. Also, my blood work the last couple of times my Drs looked at it was perfect! I mean perfect!

Yes, good news indeed. My total cholesterol in mmol/L is 14, which in American units translates to 541. Triglycerides 0.7, which in US measurements is 62. HDL 2.6, which translates to 100.5. My total cholesterol when on the SAD diet had been "normal". It shot up when I went keto and then leapt even higher when I went carnivore. A little over a year ago my doctor, worried that my arteries would be clogging up, sent me for a CAC score. When it came back zero she said that maybe the clogging was happening in my carotid and renal arteries instead. She sent me to have these scanned using ultrasound and these also came back clear. She no longer urges me to go on a statin.

The statement that LDL cholesterol is causal to plaque buildup should always be clarified as causal when associated with other "not well understood" factors. My personal favorite is insulin resistance but I don't believe that has been proven yet. IR is associated with a whole host of the other CVD risk factors like BMI, hypertension, etc, so it only makes sense that these are all related. High LDL without the other risk factors may be a red herring.

  • @garyloss2878

LDL and triglycerides are sometimes markers, but never causes, of CVD. The real question is "what's going on with the insulin response and glucose?" When we develope insulin resistance due to ex excessive carbohydrate consumption, we cause inflammation of the blood vessels, which leads to scaring, which causes plaquing of the vessel walls, ie. atherosclerosis.
