Janet Jackson - Come Back to Me (Guitar Cover)

- I love this song and Rhythm Nation is one of my favourite albums of all time. It's always been in the back of my mind to try and learn the intricate chords in the opening and find a way to play them on guitar, but there's some cool underlying guitar parts in there as well so I thought it was worth a cover. The live version features great live variations from David Barry too, and I assume it's him on the record. I was originally wanting to do a 'Landau' style tone to cover this but it wasn't fitting in the mix so I ended up with a more bluesy tone. Hope you enjoy! :)

I use a Charvel DK24, into a Boss Me-50, into a Boss Dimension C, into a Palmer Pdi-09, into a Focusrite Scarlett, into my laptop running Logic Pro X, where I add some stereo delay.

My headphones are purposely like that so the cable stays out the way.
I have a Patreon where I upload my notation notes for all my new covers and I am going through my old ones too. But I also provide custom notation and video lessons content there or at my bwmguitarlessons@gmail.com address. Please get in touch if you want help playing the music you love. / bwm5150

2:42 - 3:07 is cold asf!!! love it!!
Damn… So good. That 80s tone is magic.
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are fantastic artists and producers. Those chords are phenomenal. Well executed.
Thanks! They are the kings of writing songs in Ab/Fm 😁
That is a beautiful song…your touch right to the ending 💥👍
You can always tell that it's a Jam/Lewis production because of those signature Yamaha DX-7 chord progressions.
@@drummingdanny84and the Linn Drum 😊
@@drummingdanny84what’s the progression?
This is probably my second favorite cover off the channel. Idk I struggle picking which cover I love more. And this is also my all time favorite Janet Jackson song. I love everything about this song. The atmospheric dreamy keyboards, Janet’s vocals, and now your beautiful guitar playing and tone that adds to the song. Amazing work.
Always thought this was a very chill song.........now even more great job dude
Amazing! When the 2nd verse started I was smiling and thinking ok, what direction is he going with the chord structures. Like J says at the end. I don’t what else to say.
Brilliant interpretation mate. Sounds Fantastic
That tone is fantastic
Ben...I want to know how it is we appear to be listening to a LOT of the same things recently? Such a great album. Great touch as always good sir.
This is one of the tastiest guitar solos you ever did, my dude. Keep it coming!

Great song. I love those guitar parts. You nailed it!
Always a pleasure listening to you Ben! 😁
Phenomenal. Keep it up brother!
Great rendition Ben you have one the best sounding Charvels ever! Great song choice to do. Thank you for sharing all your great talent.🎸
Whoa had some catching up to do and you drop a Janet RN on me! This one sent me into time warp man...down the late 80s - 90s pop/dance rabbit hole! Nice work! 👍🍻
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Ben, wow. There is another facete of yours I am discovering. It´s so much more than 80 rock, it´s surprisingly also 80´s R&B. You are so versatile in your playing. I don´t like it. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
Sweet & soulful
genius
🤩 Yeeeeeees Ben 🎸🎧 awesome job Ben 👍 cheers🍻 your journey fan always 🎶🎶🎶
Ooooh, this song! Nailed it, as always!!! ❤
You've outdone yourself once again!

I absolutely love coming tonight your page and finding these gems! You have an amazing talent!! I love listening to your covers!! Simply amazing 👍👍👍🤘🤘🤘
Ah pleased to hear John, thank you!
Excellent job!
Just perfect!
I’m t would be good to do another version of this and just solo through it. The think all the kiddies such as myself will enjoy your phrasing and expression in your improv solo. 👍⚡️💯
I prefer servicing the song. Soloing all the way through doesn’t do that.
@@bwm5150 hey man I LOVE your channel, playing and what you do. I wasn’t saying “instead of” I’m just saying I bet your fans such as myself would like to hear you do some solos. There’s a live vid of this song on UA-cam when Janet’s guitarist plays a great acoustic solo and I wanted him to keep going. All the best my friend. Keep up the great work.
@@remingtonsteele3581 Thanks for the kind words! I like the live version where they do that but I'm just not that type of player to play a solo all the way and do nothing but that .
amazing job
Few months ago I asked you to play this song and this was amazing! The ending is chilling! Congrats from Brazil!
Thanks!
Well done 💯
Esses acordes são lindos irmão! Depois dê uma aula desses acordes com notas soltas!
Thanks! I have notation on my Patreon, linked in the pinned comment.
Great tune
✅
I'm trying to sample this I was wondering if you have the stems to this🙏🏾
I’m sorry to say but I do not.
Do you ever work with producers?
@@reelcollins Yeah, I have recorded guitar for many artists online. If you have any queries like that, send me an email at bwmguitarlessons@gmail.com Cheers!
🔥🔥🔥
Crazy idea for a cover that needs Leppardized - Wham! - Freedom
Um...
Good song
Even though i prefer Anderson Tocci's solo version , this cover is pretty awesome!
If you haven't, you should check out his cover, guy is a phenomenal musician.
maaan i love andersons version tooo!!
damn just checked out Andersons version after reading your comment, fkn incredible, can't believe i've never heard of this guy.
@@Chat5654Bot guys definitely a hidden gem
This was sooo good!!
👍😉
Awesome! It's amazing how songs that aren't considered "guitar songs" by many people, actually have some of the coolest and most interesting guitar parts, and this is definitely one of them. Very well done!! 😎
Thanks! Yes, I really love finding guitar in songs where it’s not the focus. 😁
was this Landau on the original recording.....?......anyone.....?
I mention in the description that it’s most likely David Barry. This vid is me attempting to do something that Landau might have done.
Hey Bwm5150 can I ask how you get sustain when you bend the notes with not a lot of distortion because my tone is similar to yours but you get way more sustain when you bend the notes and I have a compressor on but it isn’t helping
Mainly compressor but I guess other factors like playing cleanly, pickup height, nicely balanced bridge all help too.
@@bwm5150 okay I will try those. Thank you
1 of the most beautiful songs of all time, the rest of the album, meh.
