    RJ, I've been trying to set this thing up for a day and a half, and yours is the first video I've run across that said anything about checking the RTSP box. That solved my problem entirely. Thank you so much!

    Thank you for the installation walk through, it was helpful, and the doorbell now works fine with Synology. I haven't been able to make the talk-back function work though. Synology now recognizes this feature, and allows me to talk back, but the sound doesn't appear on the doorbell. It would be great if you could cover that functionality and configuration too. As a newbie with video doorbells, I also wonder how you actually use the doorbell in real life, what apps and settings you use.

    Thanks so much for the video. About to buy this and setup with my synology nas. Question for you. It sounds like the answer is yes but want to confirm. Can I set this all up (over wifi) and have the SSS simply be the storage for all the footage while the reolink app/chime takes care of all the notifications (like notified when a person is there or if doorbell is rung like the ring system). Im hoping yes

    Now that it is fully supported, according to synology compatibility list, can you confirm whether phone notifications work?

    The web interface you are showing in the video, is that a Reolink software we can download or is that the Reolink NVR's interface?

    Can someone please, PLEASE explain which Reolink camera works with the synology NAS?? There are two versions available.

    Has anyone managed it with the DS Cam app and the 2-way audio function?

    Dual recording allows you to record in real time to a second NAS on the network. I'm told edge recording is under the edge recording app in the application centre (and Reolink cameras aren't supported, which is annoying).

      Out of 8,300+ supported cameras, only 597 allow Edge Recording (ability of the NVR to download footage from the SD card after a network outage) from only 6 different camera brands.

    WOW .. thanks very much. the Doorbell just came out and that was the first question I had .. thx. for uploading so fast ;) .. so did I understand you right, that even if the wifi wasn't working well .. the recorded videos from the SD Card will be send after reconnection?

    • @RJ_Cormac
      @RJ_Cormac  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, you have to set up the Edge Recording on Surveillance Station, it's not a default. Synology Edge Recording will download missing footage back into the timeline from the SD card if you have problems with network stability. Surveillance Station is not designed to constantly download chunks of time occasionally throughout the day, everyday. It will likely fail to upload those large data files continually. Edge Recording is a back-up system to fill in if you do have the occasional network outage. You should ensure your network is strong and stable to reduce the need for Edge Recording backfilling the timeline.

      @@RJ_Cormac thank you very much. okay I got that .. I bet the wifi is strong enough, so I try it without the edge recording 👍🏻 is it also possible to make the cam work in apple home? (with homebridge maybe?)

    What I don't like is that I have my push notifications off with my nvr...and there is no way to enable it for one device...I had it working as a separate device and with my nvr but my nvr forced notifications off so all I have is the plug in chime....anyways that was the last ring device I replaced.

    • @RJ_Cormac
      @RJ_Cormac  Рік тому

      I don't recommend plugging the cameras into the Reolink NVR, you'll gain more features if you use a PoE switch and run a single network cable to the NVR. Firmware updates are easier, notifications faster, redundant SD card recording, compatibility with Smart displays in your home, etc.

    thanks for the video, however I have the wifi version, and it does not do more than 20fps.
    also dual recording is not edge as far as I know, its to allow multiple streams recording at the same time from the same camera, e.g. one high quality. another lower

    I can add my Reolink Doorbell camera to Surveillance station using your guide but if I try to change the Brand to 'Reolink' and the Model to 'Video Doorbell WiFi' (it's now available as an option) it no longer works? Any ideas? I suspect when you specify the brand and model you get additional features. I can see Intercom, Two Way Audio and Live View stats show up in Surveillance Station as Apps for this camera.

      UPDATE: I got it working. After selecting the specific brand and model, I needed to also enable HTTPS in the Server settings of the Reolink Desktop App. You can also disable ONVIF if you go this route.

    The network settings etc are not available in the app. You can use the desktop client or my preference is to navigate to the IP adress of the camera in your browser.

    • @RJ_Cormac
      @RJ_Cormac  Рік тому +1

      It's best to use the included cable and plug it into your PoE switch or NVR in the beginning, test it's functionality, and make all the adjustment and network settings necessary before deploying a camera out to it's final location. That involves a PC with the desktop client. The Reolink cellphone app does the bare minimum settings for it to function, likely to keep the app simple for users. Reolink should offer a professional app, or setting to turn on advanced settings in the app for installers who are not scared by the additional options.

    Are you using Surveillance Station for doorbell notifications? If so, how well does that work?

    • @RJ_Cormac

      No advanced features in Surveillance Station (yet). EVERYONE needs to fill out this request form for Synology to add full support, then it should be a drop-down menu with all features supported. www.synology.com/en-us/form/suggest_device#camera (Ask for "Intercom" support in the comments)

      So, until that works, I assume that you could (also) run a ReoLink app on your phone so that you get doorbell notifications? Thanks for the video, it was helpful.

  • @MatTeague
    @MatTeague Рік тому

    Thanks for the video. It was really informative. With Reolink’s own NVRs you apparently can enable constant recording. Can you do the same with Synology for the doorbell,

    • @RJ_Cormac
      @RJ_Cormac  Рік тому +1

      Yes Synology Surveillance Station records 24/7 with footage retention as long as you need. Much better than the Reolink NVR's that come with an embarrassingly small 2TB hard drive. If you're going to get a Reolink NVR choose the RLN36, it can hold more HDD storage and doesn't have all the unnecessary camera ports. Reolink cameras gain additional features with a PoE switch instead of their NVR, then run a single network cable from the NVR to your network equipment PoE switch.

    Doest the continuous recording on SS not affect the working of the reolink app's live stream when visitors and notifications?

    • @RJ_Cormac
      @RJ_Cormac  Рік тому +1

      No effect, Synology Surveillance Station is pulling the stream from the network bandwidth. The notifications to the Reolink app are still sent simultaneously, while the chime is from a 433Mhz frequency module. There is no interface or delays recording 24/7 and other issues. The Reolink Doorbell has several advanced chips running AI detection and other image processing tasks before the SOC/CPU does the final processing and data transfer to the network (WiFi or RJ45).
      Many people (myself included) think Reolink should remove the button, make a white mold, and manufacture an indoor camera in this size, it's a great 5MP camera in a tiny package. Lots of potential with this in the future IMO.

    Thanks for the video and the review, If someone rings the doorbell,
    does surveillance station send a notification (also via the mobile app surveillance stations syno)?

    • @RJ_Cormac
      @RJ_Cormac  Рік тому

      Not yet, keep sending in requests to Synology for the Doorbell to have Intercom abilities.
      After doing different testing over the months, it's easier to setup the Reolink Doorbell and pretend it's a RLC-510A, don't use ONVIF anymore manually. You'll get all the AI features, but the button will only be available in the next Synology Device Pack if enough customers request them to do it.

      And in the reolink app as well ?

      @@greggv12345 turn regular motion sensitivity down to 1, you want that off, or you'll always get lots of useless notifications. Smart person detection at ~60. Make sure you have the Alarm Delay at 2 seconds, anything moving faster than that isn't a person at your door. Then you can set a minimum object size and mask off the detection zone far away on a public road.
