So beautiful and subtle. Thank you team for bringing out to us these wonderfully woven pieces... Wish you guys success and much triumph over any monetary obstacles...
Beautiful Performance Hanneke! I think she should be the Soloist and perform the Handel Organ Concerto No. 6 op. 4! Can she please do that? You can find the Concerto on IMSLP!
That harpsichord sounds really really good. I dont know whether its the recording or the instrument itself though. Is there any chance we can get some Information on the instrument itself?
Normally i hate harpsichord specially because cds or digital recordings make it sound too harsh or metallic and thin timbre. But this is amazingly fat sounded and obviously well played. Im George. Not Nelida wich is my mom. I play the flute and i always blame to digital for leaving a poor performance of this instrument. You can imagine how many works from Barroco period contains a lot of flute/harpsichord ensamble. I take this recording of you as an example of how a harpischord has to be recorded. Congratulations
the title means "Variations on the song of the gentleman". This song, a Villancico, had the following text: Dezilde al cavallero que non se quexe, que yo le doy mi fe que non le dexe. Dezilde al cavallero, cuerpo garrido, que non se quexe en ascondido, que yo le doy mi fe que non le dexe. the melody has been preserved in four music settings: besides Cabezon, Pisador set it to solo vihuela and Gombert made a five part version, and the fourth one is a Mass setting by Morales

aki Kafuu It's a harpsichord, not a piano. They look similar, but they've got different mechanisms. The strings are plucked on the harpsichord, but struck on the piano. The former is somehow related to the harp while the latter derives from the clavichord. 🙂
You will occasionally (rarely) find the the term mesotonic used instead of meantone, but meantone is the standard term. So, for example, you won't find the word mesotonic in the Wikipedia article on meantone, or in a standard music dictionary. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meantone_temperament
The correct title is "diferencias," you can look it up in any online source such as IMSLP. Diferencias is not a translation; it is the name the composer gave the piece.
'diferencias', a term used in the past, means exactly the same as 'variaciones'. In German the term 'Veränderungen' was sometimes adopted instead of 'Variationen'. Cheers, Willem
Muchos músicos españoles contemporaneos compusieron"diferencias", que es el nombre que se daba en España a las variaciones . Las pueden our en obras de Valderrabano, Narváez, Fuenllana,Mudarra, y otros.@@VoicesofMusic
Besides the masterful playing, that is an amazing sounding instrument.
That last F Major chord sounds so nice in meantone temperament.
This music is good for my soul. Such a beautiful instrument, played with flawless sensitivity and grace. Thank you!
Welcome!
The way the motif is emphasized at 2:10 gives the section a whole new dimension...almost like a rediscovery. Thanks!
you're welcome, happy new year

Love the meantone. It's so spicy! Beautiful perfomance.
So beautiful. The perfect tuning and instrument for this kind of repertoire.
Thank you.
Excellent performance ! Thank so much.

The Klinkhamer is wonderful.
:)
Sounds like organ music. Great performance and recording btw
Cabezón was a well known composer of music for organ.
Bravo
This is rare. 👍
Beautiful.
Terrific instrument.

Gorgeous

Italian harpsichord by Johannes Klinkhamer, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 2000 (after Bartolomeo Cristofori, Florence, Italy, 1725).
Both. This ensemble uses only the best instruments and recording techniques
Tuning Tuning Tuning. It's all in the tuning.

Can we learn more about this song? What does the Spanish title mean? Where did the melody come from?
the title means "Variations on the song of the gentleman". This song, a Villancico, had the following text:
Dezilde al cavallero
que non se quexe,
que yo le doy mi fe
que non le dexe.
Dezilde al cavallero,

the melody has been preserved in four music settings: besides Cabezon, Pisador set it to solo vihuela and Gombert made a five part version, and the fourth one is a Mass setting by Morales
Very interesting, does that mean Cabezon would have intended to have the melody sung while the keyboard was playing?
There are versions where the top part may be sung, but this version has the tune appear in different registers.

Why the piano sounds that?

Voices of Music Thanks, so it's actually a meantone temperament.
Quarter comma meantone, adjusted by ear for the final tuning.
