heave listened to this song 100's of times. NEVER sick of it, still loving and basking in every glorious note. Saw him perform it a dozen times - NO DRUMMER ever punctuated of addressed the subtleties of a horn arrangement the way this man did. He elevated the artform of Jazz drumming like no other. He understood the intricacies of supporting an arrangement like no other. THE ABSOLUTE KING OF KINGS!!! AMERICAN ROYALTY!!! AN ARTISTS ARTIST!!! (and I saw him smoking weed in his underwear in the lotus position in the dressing room of a club when I was a kid at a matinee - he drove off in a brand new Jaguar XKE with no license plates after the show :-) )
This is probably the best big band arrangement ever. Buddy's band in the late 60's and early 70's was at the top of his game. I also think he was one of the best to ever play the drums. All of his recordings are outstanding.
It Kicks into gear with adrenaline at 3:40 haha! Absolutely One of the Greatest jazz arrangements ever!!! I can listen to this album everyday!!! The Greatest Album I Love!
The single stroke roll at 3:54 is ridiculous!!!. I saw Buddy play this classic numerous times live and it was always a high point of a Rich Concert. On occasion he would kick it off quicker than usual and myself plus most of the audience would all have the same thing on our minds....Will Buddy make the roll!! I hardly need to confirm that he did.
The band is in the pocket and then POW! At 3:23, they head for the stratosphere! After Rich's snare drum fill at 3:54, the audience goes wild! Amazing performance by all!
I was lucky to see the Buddy Rich Big Band on quite a few occasions here in the UK, he came over around February/ March each year for many years, Both he, and the band were always wonderful, it was a real privilege to see him play.
jeez, am I nuts, I have to come back from time to time to hear this...it's my favorite Buddy tune and I believe he played it best on this cut. He's the Master...
Arranged by Pete Meyers, this track was recorded live in 1967. Love the sax entry at 2:47! At around 3:23, the band takes off like a rocket, everything's in sync and cooking white hot. Amazing! You can hear the astonished reaction from the audience.
Rich and his band played this Pete Myers chart on Porter's " Love For Sale " for years, but this performance was electrifying! At 3:06, the entire ensemble seems to pulsate towards a stunning finish. Tight as tight can be! Rich even seems to be applauding with his bass drum at 4:36!
It was the sound engineers job to control that and if you listen to the sax intro you can hear the sound guy pulling the volume up in the 2nd or 3rd bar. I saw Buddy with his big band once and there was an issue with feedback through the monitors and he did not hold back during the performance getting all over the guy doing sound. It happened like 2 or 3 times and at once point Buddy threatened to walk out on the show.

Last year my highschool jazz band played this we added in the drummer counting off and everything we had it sounding so good I was second bone on it
Great story! Thanks for sharing.
He died of 2 brain tumors they say was induced by illegal drugs😢
We just won a jazz competition with this song :)
Same actually 😂😂

Thumbs up well done 👍
This is one of the greatest big-band cuts of all time. And from 3:40 to the end is interplanetary.

Saw Buddy at Lennie's on The Turnpike back in 1960. What an arrangement - what a drummer - the greatest!!!!
This is one of the best versions out there! always loved this tune by Buddy...

That’s so cool you were able to see him live!
It's a seven stroke roll.
I'm playing this in jazz bad (high school) it's so much fun but it's hard lol

I have large testicles.
The first album I bought as a h/s tenor man the cut "LOVE FOR SALE " is so tight the band is one unit shame we don't hear music like this anymore
Been listening to this since the 70s. NEVER gets old 😊

I envy you 👍
The drums were born to be played by Buddy!
jeez, am I nuts, I have to come back from time to time to hear this...it's my favorite Buddy tune and I believe he played it best on this cut. He's the Master...
Spot on- this is the best. It totally swings top to bottom !
We're playing this for our high school Jazz band! And I play bari!
Same im a trombone the intro will be fun i think
Gone for 30 years.how lucky are we like to see him live and up close. Life-changing
Me emociona esta orquesta este tema el arreglo y lo que toca el inconmensurable Buddy Rich único e insustituible!!!
El mejor arreglo de Love For Sale en este caso para la big band del inconmensurable Buddy Rich!!
The best big band recording ever. And whilst I am not always right, on this I am never wrong.
oh yes. memories of being a freshman, playing lead trombone in the college big band. this was one of the first tunes i had to get under my slide.
Best BRBB album of all!!
Best BRBB crew of all of them!!

Perfectly said ❤
Only TIME CHECK, is better. It's utter perfection ❤

Too good!
Please listen to the album version of away we go if you havn,t already, it's just colossal.
Cracking version!
Yeah...gotta be Findley
Genio total
3:47 that roll quality .........signature machine gun
a machine gun could only wish.
Our band it was a guitar solo instead of a saxophone
I’ve heard that before
Rich did an arrangement of Mercy, Mercy that featured a great guitar solo by Walter Namuth.
Definitely one of BRs best known charts.
Along with West Side Story and Channel One Suite.
Lindas Lindas ....Good....Jose....Anjos....
Who put thumbs down ?
Donald Trump probably....he doesn't know a violin from a double bass.. probably couldn't spell Jazz if he had three goes at it.
Neil Peart.
Nice Video bro
Ça c est du big band
😮🌸💛🍎
Who gives a thumbs down to Buddy Rich? Well, maybe no talents, or wanna be's
Well, it's not for everybody.
Neil Peart.

Best part!
It's Love For Sale, but without the suggestive and now questionable lyrics. Great chart, I played it during my time with a professional orchestra.
Lyrics not pristine like, say, most rock songs...
These Trumpet and Sax lines are very similar to those played by Miles Davis and John Coltrane
I wonder who did their recordings first
1:26 - m69
I wonder how things were on the bus after the gig…that sax was playing kinda loud.

The sound engineer is to control volume of the brass section. The band leader was complaining at the wrong people.
