very different sounds. Would use both in different situations based on these displays alone. The Useful Arts for when a more mid heavy sound is needed. the Fearn gives an air on top that is useful for much of todays pop vocals, but less useful in something more mid focussed. It's be too airy for an aggressive rock vocal (with these settings). I record strings a lot, the Fearn would shine there.
I have owned the Fearn. It’s a great mic pre but can’t do what this pre does. I have tracked many many times over 5 years with the Fearn. This FSP - 60, you can dial in how much harmonics you want, can’t do that with the Fearn. Thinks you can do far more with the FSP - 60. Just my humble opinion…
I thought the microphone seemed a little overly sibilant, and it was difficult for me to get beyond that to hear what the rest of the mic pre-'s were doing. Neither preamp sounded bad. It just might not of been the best choice of microphone for that singer. I've heard preamps that I liked as much as these for half or even 25% as much money. These pres sound good, but so do lots of others.
It’s hard to suss things with the OGG psychological compression used on UA-cam. Which other pres do you like? I find it very hard to beat more expensive ones. Be it Fearn, Pendulum, Esoteric Audio, etc. It’s annoying how much they cost lol. If you know some amazing stuff, kindly share!
SFP-60 adds all the stuff you kind of wanna take out of the mix...
haha, i wasnt wild about it either. im about to get a fern though just came to check out some sound examples first
I may have missed something, but why are you showing a Manley VOX Box on the screen?

*sigh* ... where are you based? I can send one for you to check out in your studio to hear it for yourself.

The Fearn laid back not so in your face. Both would have a place in a studio..
Fearn is better. The second one sounds cheeper and colder...
