Gary Neville should receive the Gary Neville Award
In recognition for his services to the Gary Neville Podcast
"I didn't think about it at all" - yeah Gary, clearly
Most appearances on the Gary Neville Podcast award
He's certainly earned it this year
I have to agree with you, no one Gary Nevilles to the level that Gary Neville Gary Nevilles.
What Emery has done in 18 months with a very poor Gerrard team in the bottom 6 is a minor miracle
Villa didn’t accept Gerrard from the start
Emery is bottling it slowly

It’s actually criminal how overlooked defensive players are for POTS, Rodri and Saliba are so clear of the entire league but ofc they won’t even be considered
It’s generally far harder to be creative than defensive, to invent than simply stop. So forwards - who generally make and create more goals that win games - deserve more adulation
Far easier to compare attackers as you can watch them solely to understand how good they are. Defensive players have a unit supporting them. You can set up a system like arsenal do to protect the defence but you cant have a system that allows a player to ping perfect passes to create chances.
Well said
@@NawtystepRodri contributes a LOT on the ball too, though

How they havent mentioned Emery for the best coaching performance when Villa absolutely played City off the park is baffling frankly.
instead they say they’ve over performed, absolutely ridiculous.
@@ga1917why is that ridiculous? Did you expect Villa to be in the UCL places? Realistically, come on…
@@christophers4415 No, but I wouldn’t have bet against it. In the last 22 games of last season (the time he was at Villa) they were the third best performing team last year
@@christophers4415 No I didn’t, I thought it was ridiculous how they didn’t mention their success but to mention that they’ve “over performed” with a world class manager. Watkins has been one of the best if not the best player this season, Unai Emery made average players good and they’ll most likely finish in the top 4 after being in the relegation zone before he took over. It’s top 6 clubs bias written all over it.
@@ga1917 after all that you still described over performing… it is what it is, don’t worry about it. If you’re a Villa fan enjoy it while you can
I saw Cole palmer playing for city youth teams a few times and could tell straight away he was ahead of his team mates. He was clinical , direct and intelligent
Neville is spot on about Odegaard. He really does knit everything together. Involved in every single phase of play. Not just creating chances, but also involved in build up play, leading the press and controlling the tempo.
All that for nothing 😂.
He's an incredible player. Every inch of potential is being realized, remember him being signed a decade ago nearly. He's very down to Earth to ride that attention and stay nose-down as he has and made smart decisions in his career. They've been needing a playmaker like this since Cazorla and Ozil left.
It's what sets him apart from Bruno, who is almost useless in the first phase
@@masterchief1520remember they made a documentary called all or nothing and they neither got all nor nothing
It's hard to classify the whole 'got one wrong' debate. Because honestly. Would Palmer had the impact he's had, if he stayed a City? Maybe, Maybe not. It's the same case for De Bruyne, Salah. It's all about timing, and experience. One may not thrive at their current set up, but put them in one that may suit them better, and they'll thrive.
Very true. I don't agree with him being player of the season but fair play to him for wanting to leave City/Pep and get game time elsewhere
Still not convinced Palmer is going to keep up his form but class player
@@joeb6705same I think he’s just having a one off season, pep don’t let players go so easy unless he doesn’t want them
We have to bear in mind FFP, with a home grown player it’s 100% profit. Ridiculous rule but that’s what we’re working with
And also we have to bear in mind that Poch has always been very good with both coaching and managing young players. He needs more credit for that
How has Emery not won best coaching performance? Everyone expected Arsenal to be in a title race no one expected Villa to make top 4.
Was Arteta the best coach last season? No one though Arsenal would be first almost all season also...
Everyone was saying arsenal challenging was a fluke and they will drop out the top 4 so
When Emery was at arsenal, he couldn’t even finish in the champions league positions. Look at what Arteta is doing
It’s a lot easier to coach for 4th than it is to coach for 1st especially if your competition is pep and Klopp. Arsenal have not lost a game to city or Liverpool. Not lost to any of the big 6. Many other reasons. To turn this Arsenal that use to be soft into the best defense … that alone is a top coaching performance.

@@okonkwohushbaby6307 Martin Odegaard - played 47 goals 11 assist 9 all comps Bruno Fernandes - played 45 goals 15 assist 11 all comps nuff said!!!
Idk why people are saying “why Odegaard?” As someone who watches every arsenal game odegaard provides everything for our team. Rice and Gabriel were great this year but our team loses every bit of creativity once odegaard steps off. When our team plays bad he’s the only one that looks decent.
Agreed when it comes to our attacking play he is our most important player he links up everything and it all goes through him most the time. He works hard defensively too and organising our team back into shape. Every time I watch him play he’s so smooth and mesmerising to watch I feel like his numbers this season don’t portray how good he has actually been
Because it's the Arsenal thing
Odegaard is the spark and spine of our team, runs his socks off every game. Always gives everything for the badge and manager and ive not even mentioned the world class abilities he has yet. His dribbling is genuinely the best in the league this season, cant get the ball off him with his tight control, passing whether it be a long ball, curling through pass or driven ground pinged pass he is a master in. Picking up on players around him he positions himself open for a pass and escapes any press with ease, always tracks back and has solid defensive capabilities for a cam/cm. Leads our players and they all clearly look to him, leads the fans and bigs us up and makes sure the fans support the team when we need it. If every single player has their head down he is the one they all look to and he never has his head down, turns games around for us and gets us back in the game when everyone else gives up. Its crazy because his stats arent actually as good as last season, we all know he can shoot but he has much leas goals than last season, now he was immense last season but as gary basically said, he is WORLD CLASS this season and improved even more from last season keeping us ticking and every team we play knows he is the danger man he can run at you and play a crazy pass in an instant. He is still only 25 we are very lucky we have such a player. He deserves more credit genuinely anyone who has watched arsenal all season knows he is just next level.
@@Slim2Flo He was better last season though
It’s a good point Neville said. If you think about it, what more could you want from odegaard, he works harder than anyone I’ve seen, he controls the game, does perfect passes and gets goals too. He’s better than debruyne and that’s because debryne is actually quite lazy, talented but he doesn’t do anything defensively that odegaard does. Odegaard leads a press and sets the standards for the team defensively
Why is Rodri not the best player in the league again?
Defensive Players aren’t rated by the media sadly
Nobody cares about defensive players sadly, Rodri and Saliba are probably the top 2 but ofc they’ll get overlooked
Because he’s the best player in the world
Sadly hes not media darling.
Van dijk is a media darling. Some people r just lucky.

Emery vs City was by far the best individual managerial performance of the season
Chelsea 4 - 3 Man U worth mention too, some crazy games

Poch's Chelsea have been chaotic both for good and bad
Correct answer is Rodri, we saw just how badly City were without him, not even having KDB missing had as big an impact on the team.. They are now going to win the league and this is in huge part to Rodri returning and going on an unbelievable streak since.
That’s cos his the most important they don’t have a replacement

Best player/ young player/ signing all 3 should be Palmer.
Whats the point of giving him a token award.
I mean Saka, Foden, Halaand, Isak etc can also be named in this (young player) category and if Palmer is not selected for best player, just give one of those 4 the young player award too.

Obviously a lot of Palmer but it just so happens that the player I think's been the best this season happens to be a new signing in his first full season. Cant have him as your POTS and then not have him as your YPOTS and signing of the season (like Haaland last year). Loads of other great players too though like Rodri, Foden, Rice, Watkins, Odegaard, the Arsenal CBs etc.
Isak
I think Arsenal got a double boost with Rice - not only is he a great player, and they needed his mentality of not getting too emotional - Xhaka was sending them over the edge imo. Saying it was a mistake to let Palmer go is kinda dumb. City didn't drop off and it's not like he helped Chelsea achieve anything over City.
It's hindsight, and please don't think for a moment Pep wouldn't want Palmer back. Fact is even City are capable of making these decisions because the quality at so many positions. Doesn't mean they can't miss on things, and Palmer has pretty much single handidly kept Chelsea now fighting for Europe.
Well Palmer is one player. Football isn't won via one player unless its Messi or something.
Theres not a single player capable of making their club achieve anything over Man City
Come back in two to three years time and you will have a different response when Palmer helps Chelsea win the league over city.
Bro City are that good that they can let go of almost any player and you will hardly notice a drop off. They let go off Mahrez and Gundogan and they are still on the verge of doing a double. So that's not a knock on Palmer, it's just that Pep is a freak of a manager
Liked the different interpretation of some of the questions, was interesting.
Ollie Watkins for Player of the Year and if course it follows that Unai Emery should be Manager of the Year. 19 goals, 13 assists and general play which is always outstanding, Ollie has been exemplary this year. As for Unai, bottom six to 'almost' Champions League and done with a squad of players that haven't cost the earth. Rest my case.
Jamie is right. Guardiola didn't get Palmer wrong. He wanted him to stay at the club and to eventually ease him into the team. It's not Guardiola's fault that Palmer wanted to leave immediately. Like Jamie said, who would he have played ahead of otherwise?
I think it seems like a mistake when they only got 40 Million, and they still have players like Doku getting time. Surely don't buy Doku and keep Palmer in hindsight?
@@williamdavies5957 Once again, he desperately wanted to keep Palmer. Palmer forced himself out of the club. similar thing happened with Foden. He was eased in despite new players being brought in. Palmer didn't want to be patient like Foden.

He’s been well ahead of Foden. City have fallen apart when he hasn’t played. 16 goal contributions from DM, as well as controlling games and the way City play. Unbeaten in 60 games.
It’s just English bias. Son has the same stats as Watkins but doesn’t get a mention. Salah hasn’t been great but has similar stats as well.

@@applenutsyeah, you maybe right, he's looked average at city, even grealish was compared to Messi at Aston villa only to go to city and score a meager 8 goals in 3 years after scoring 17 goals and 10 assists in his final year at villa
@applenuts I get the logic, but NO chelsea player has stood out the last 4 years like Palmer has. Mount , Havertz etc haven't got close to this output ....
Palmer has been great, but he's benefited from being a big fish in a small pond (in that Chelsea's team have been so poor elsewhere). He's been the main guy, which he would never have been at City, so I think they made the right decision to sell and Chelsea made a good decision to buy (although when you buy about 50 players you're bound to get one right 😂)
Best signing = Callum Hudson-Odoi (£3m)
Best newcomer = Murillo (21yo, £11m & 1st season in Prem after only 13 senior appearances in Brazil)
Forest fan by any chance? 😂
Forest fan lmao
Unai Emery has been the best coach by a mile and Ollie Watkins has been the best player in the league this season
Best player - Foden
Best young player - Palmer
Best signing - Ross Barkley
Best Newcomer - Iraola
Best coaching performance - Gary O'Neil
Biggest overachievers - Liverpool
Biggest underachievers - United
Best game - Chelsea v City
Liverpool overacheivers?
How are liverpool overachievers lol, they are always in the title race look at the last 7 years
Liverpools team is not as good as people think. How many of their team actually gets into Arsenals or City's, and that's before you talk about their injuries and Salah leaving for AFCON and poor form after coming back. For me the fact they lasted so long in the title hunt is a huge achievement
@@XBR4Dano excuse as a traditional top 6 team. Everytime they make so much noise but when they fail they try force us to believe it's expected
Liverpool had 10 of 11 starting players out for a decent period after Christmas, key key players like alisson, Trent, jota and salah missing key chunks of the season. all things considered after the previous season I’d say they did alright
Rice should get no where near player of the season if he wasn’t English and wasn’t shoved in our face from the media literally no one would speak about him
Correct. Rodri is on another planet.
And there are other CMs who have easily matched or bettered Rice. MacAllister, Bruno Guimaraes, Palhinha etc.
The fact Jorginho has had to come in at DM to control games shows how limited Rice is.
Jamie is right. How can Neville say he should have stayed while not saying who he should replace at city.
Crystal palace proper to last 6 games had a shout of being biggest underachievers. Some great players in that team.
Pep wanted to keep Palmer he told him to stay. There was no convincing Palmer. Shocking that these two didn't know that.
this month alone I heard 10 variations of this story... nobody of us really knows what happened
Hate hearing ‘if’ in football arguments. Football isn’t based on ‘ifs, buts, maybes’
So you’re saying Sadio Mane is the greatest footballer in the world?

Villa haven't over achieved imo they deserve it man
Overachieving doesn’t mean it’s undeserved
@@masonknowsball66 no but idk how to explain it. They haven't over achieved, the games they won they deserved the wins, and the points. Most people expected villa to be top 6. They have a good squad, good manager, ended the season well last year. Maybe over achieved from 2 positions but you know
@@masonknowsball66 I'd go for palace I would.
@@XJokermanX Palace? They’re currently in 12th and they finished 11th last season and 12th the season before that. They’ve improved massively the last couple months but to say they’ve overachieved over the entire course of the season is objectively wrong
@@adamclayton6975 yeah but they've suddenly been really good since they sacked Roy. They were near relegation not tooo long ago few months, and they've been pretty solid recently. But half way thru the season you wouldn't say they'd finish as high as they have

7:43 Gary are you alright? 😂
How is Watkins not player of the season?
Not everyone is a Villa fan
No way people saying Watkins over palmer 😂😂
Is Watkins really a 'young' player though? He's 28.
I understand what Carra is saying about Pep letting Palmer go takes balls, people still bring up Salah and De Bruyne over and over when talking about Jose Mourinho failings at Chelsea
Odegaard😂
Cracking player is Odegaard.
Who is your pick?
Odegaard clearly is arsenals most important player.
Their success / rise directly coincides with Odegaards signing and game play.
Odegaard 1000%. Much better footballer than the rest this season, ridiculously good
Odegaard POTS is criminal
So you haven’t watched him at all then this season 😂 easier to just type that
I think that endo should be best newcomer. Hes been absolutley instrumental for liverpool
Chelsea vs city 4-4 is the best game this season by miles. That was proper premier League show🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Odegaard 🤣🤣
I just know you don't understand football properly if you're laughing at that. Best player in the league this season easy
Even as a spurs fan, I rate him
how is that funny
@@hsjh28 idk about easy, he’s definitely up there. I don’t think there will ever be a definitive answer of who the best player is in a season. Depends on how you look at players and what basis you go by. But hey, that’s the fun of havin opinions
Carragher is correct. Cole palmer is unreal but if he didn’t leave he wouldn’t have been in the euros England squad.
Pep gave him the choice and said himself, he couldn’t guarantee him playing time in the near future
On cole palmer i think people forget he could have improved at chelsea under poch, hes had a good season but that doesnt mean he was rhis player last season or he would have been as good had he stayed at chelsea. Sometimes players grow at other clubs case and point KDB wasnt that great at chelsea but he went to germany and became a much better player and now hes one of the best midfielders the prem has ever seen.
Pep said he wanted palmer to stay he even said he had that talk with Cole but Cole said he wanted to leave so hats off to pep for not holding him back
Best coaching performance has to be emery v city at Villa park never seen city be dominated like that ever before
