Oh my god at 5:35 what he did with the volume knob was insane I've never seen someone play that clean and fast and still maintain such an even swell. This guy is one hell of a player
Honestly, it's so redundant to rearrange your picking hand technique so much for volume swells. Just get a volume pedal. Mark Knopfler is a good example of how the volume pedal is so versatile. Just listen to 'Brothers In Arms' or 'Lions' from his time in Dire Straits.
On fast settings you get really close. On the slow setting no pedal can compete studio or room. It also does not sound like a normal Leslie due to the crossover and the amp that is driving it
Three Dog Night lead guitar player Michael Allsup used the huge "Organ" Leslie during his shows with them, and there are so many sounds and combinations of sounds he got from it. Joe Walsh is another who used it for many "acoustic" songs. Incredible demo. Thank you!
I've never driven in a Yugo or a Rolls either but I DO have Vibratone and several really good Leslie simulators...none can capture what really happens when a speaker is spinning in front of you. A Yugo will get you from Point A to B, but when you arrive in a Rolls Royce, you're smiling because that ride was spectacular.
lol..a fart would sound magical through a Leslie, it makes no difference what guitar is used. I prefer something with a humbucker myself but it just doesn't matter
Those tempted by this video should note that many of the two-keyboard console organs you often see offered for sale cheap or even "free to a good home" ("Must pick up") come with a rotating speaker baffle virtually identical to a Vibratone. I'm on my second one. They sound wonderful. The caveats: - you'll have to make your own cabinet and speed-changing footswitch - unlike an actual Leslie, they have no associated amplifier; you'll need to power them like an extension speaker - although they can be made to operate on the horizontal plane, they are designed to rotate vertically, and perform better that way (faster ramp-up/down) - the units coming in console organs generally have a 20W 8" full range speaker; if you want more power, you'll need to make a different cab/assembly to accommodate a larger speaker - you'll have to extricate the rotating baffle assembly from the organ and figure out what to do with "the carcass" But within those considerations, you'll still be glad you put in the extra effort.
Console organs have the two 61 note keyboards and 25 note pedalboard. Many spinet organs also have Leslies in them. A spinet organ has the smaller 44 or 49 note keyboards. Some are single speed but many are two speed that is have the two motors to achieve the different speed. The spinets are easier to move as they are much lighter than a console organ. Console organs are very heavy around 200kg and bulky.
What you find in an organ is a compromise on space, so they set them up on a horizontal axis. It is worth the effort to set them spinning on a vertical axis.
Sounds amazing, excellent playing as well. This is THE effect of kings. The best leslie em I have heard is the scan of a 145 built into the Kemper amp. I tell people to get a Kemper just for that. Cant carry a normal cab anymore according to my old back and shoulder so my gear all has to be ultralight.
I'm about to build an amp and stick and old Leslie in it, along with a 12" in the front of the cab. It'll be powered by a Bogen CHB-35. I've had all the components for years, and now finally have the time.
I have many brothers Leslie 18 after his passing. He never taught me to connect it. Please do a video on connecting. Mine is all original. Thank you. I too am a Gilmore big fan.
Personally I'm a 147 guy, but this gent is a Master Stratocaster Blaster. He's got the mikes right, for the swirly he's using, and my oh my, he's got great fingers too! Thanks!! REally!
It's like standing on a sound highway. The vehicles are the sounds. It's like in a matrix of sound. I got the key of the Lamborghini, it's in my head anyways. Thank you for the journey. ✊🏽
Love the hat as I’m a Farmall 140 guy. I was given a Leslie 18 mint condition with everything original, cables, footswitch and other cable that goes with it. I powered it up on for a second to see if the motor ran, it did. I then wanted to hook it up, since I’d never seen one before I was at a lost. I searched the internet and couldn’t find a thing. If you have the time please describe to me how to connect this beast. Thank you and great playing.
I drove a yugo for awhile that little piece of junk was kind of a horse . I never had any problems but the parts are fiat and in the 90s cheep. Will a Leslie 120c work well with a guitar. I found one for 300 bucks the guy said it's already capable of plugging a guitar in but he said I'd need a preamp or an EQ pedal. Should I pass or pick it up?
Leslie 16 is a 10" Leslie 18 is a 12" Vibratone is a 10" a unique effect very musical. They sound different from a Organ Lesie with the horn setup. All you need to know. www.nmia.com/~vrbass/vibratone/
I live in Austin where he lives and plays a lot. He is very much influenced by SRV. Having seen him several times he seems to be influenced by Freddie King and Albert King as well. While I say influenced He definitely still has his own style. He is a phenomenal guitarist. He used to play weekly at a bar here on 6th street but he's been gaining more popularity so he's been on the road more. Happy for him but we don't see him as much lol.

Yngwie Malmsteen does it a lot to sound like a violin.
The king of that is Phil Keaggy. Malmsteem and the late Danny Gatton are two big users of the technique.
See Andy Latimer

Headphones a must for this one!
I owned a Vibratone for a bit. What an incredible sound it was, especially with an EP-3 Echoplex in front
Amazing! Time for a reissue from Fender.
smurfpiss neo ventilator is way cheaper and just as good as any reissue fender could put out.
Justin L in a room? I agree. In a recording? Bet you cant tell the difference.

Yes please
@@anthonycampbell7187 there is NO substitute for moving air. None whatsoever.
For recording only sure, but where's the fun in recording only.
One of my favorite Leslie Speaker tones is the Let it Be guitar solo, particularly the single version
Three Dog Night lead guitar player Michael Allsup used the huge "Organ" Leslie during his shows with them, and there are so many sounds and combinations of sounds he got from it. Joe Walsh is another who used it for many "acoustic" songs. Incredible demo. Thank you!
I think Badfinger used one on No Matter What, at the 1:15 mark, you can really hear it.
Saw this guy open up for Gary Clark Jr at the cotillion! So cool to see him wearing a shirt from the coolest venue in my hometown.

Strat is correct choice of guitar for playing a Leslie.......fantastic
Terry O'Malley there isn’t a correct or wrong guitar for this... 🤦♂️
lol..a fart would sound magical through a Leslie, it makes no difference what guitar is used. I prefer something with a humbucker myself but it just doesn't matter
anything works.... I use it on anything from baritone to pedal steel at pretty much every gig.
SRV's 'Cold Shot'
So THAT’S how Jimi gave us Little Wing
Fantastic playing and beautiful sounds!
Just in awe of your technique 👍👏

I'm a proud owner! Greatest sound that no emulation could ever reproduce
Finally I know how my favorite guitar sounds are made
I have many brothers Leslie 18 after his passing. He never taught me to connect it. Please do a video on connecting. Mine is all original. Thank you. I too am a Gilmore big fan.
wow!!!! This right here is the reason rock ‘n’ roll was so fucking good 40-50 years ago
I have to agree with his last statement. I have a strymon lex, but after hearing this, the real thing just stands on it's own.
Excellent right hand technique

didn't play the 4 notes
hi, sam
Only the phase 90 is suitable for that.
That’s a phaser not leslie
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
@@walkerharris2844 pretty damn sure its a leslie
THANKYOU to tell this to people
Fantastic video. I'm a layman just want to learn more about the Leslie. Oh, and Gilmour is my favorite guitarist!
Man - great video - just discovered that amazing player...thnks
5:32 this guy is insane !!!!! what the hell ! Not even Jeff Beck is that fast...
That strat sounded great....wouldve liked to hear that old dano/silvertone too

This sounds amazing over wifi through an iPhone 5s on a busy subway platform...
What a premium listening experience
I'm kind of surprised that the Leslie is such a subtle effect on its own.
I’m wondering if the vibratone in blonde has been re-tolxed? as I can’t find any info about fender building them in blonde. Looks and sounds amazing
argh beautiful guitar... i could listen to this guy all week
who else is here because tomorrow never knows?
Seems nobody gives a shit.
That sounds freakin' awesome.
I’d love to get a Lesley, no pedal comes even close to the feel, sound and almighty power the Lesley holds

did you get it hooked up? wondering if vibratone is in the ball park as good as the heavier lieslies?
@@barneyrubble8255 I did. Sounds amazing, as for the sound I think the Leslie is a bit better but either are great.
This got S R V written all over it amazing
I NEED ONE
Jerry Morgan JR I have one that I will sell.
Great! finally! go Man!!!!!!
Love the Cotillion shirt!
6:23 so that's how you get the splash sound on guitars.
Cool shirt! I saw Joe Walsh play there many years ago.
What is the riff at 3:38?
The Cotillion, yeah dude wichita, ks!
you have ninja skills running that volume knob!
3:40 is the classic Peter Frampton tone
Listen to Jan Akkerman with Focus !
Never noticed! Which songs?
Anyone know if he got any songs like at 3:30 shit is fire Shazam don't know

Bring Oren Ambarchi on! He can show so many cool things playing a guitar through a Leslie cab.
You might be a SRV fan if.....
Sounds like he's more of a Gilmour fan...

3:46 yes
cagethefoxtrick what’s that?
Organ in a cave sound today? Beautiful sound!🌚
i liked seeing this movie. keep going 👍
The reason they don't make these any more is because the Roland JC-120 kinda made it easier to get these sounds.
JC-120? What?
Anyone making these today?
Are you using the crossover or is it modded for straight in?
Shout out to the Cotillion Ballroom in Wichita Kansas
I was expecting him to say he was a huge fan of SRV.
Lesley’s a rear loader eh? 😜 0:45
Just sitting here waiting on my Leslie G37 to show up..
so it's basically a very elaborate and analog way of achieving the Tremolo effect?
Doppler effect. Think helicopter, think train whistle.
I could do that I just don’t wanna
Oh you know it
Pauly Shore shreds
Eargasm!
not a guitarist but lovely stuff
this guy is like Paul Banks's (from interpol) brother or something
Can almost smell the oil and feel the air moving
👍💯💙
Hearing this with headphones makes me feel sick
The Real Thing.
Groovy lava lamp.
The word “Leslie” and “guitar” doesn’t go well together lol. If you know it you know it, guitar goes brrrr.
Excuse me but a blonde one????
I’ve never seen one before either…
I wish you could hear my real rotary speakers check it out at rotarysound.com
Wish I could hear it, too. Went to the website and there's one page with no links to demos or pricing.
I built one! Get creative, leslie parts
Mine is better! rotarysound.com real spinning speaker no styrofoam!
Srv wannabe
Dude uses man strings on that thing
The vibe is a cool effect but that strat sounds so awful on its own. Who likes that terrible sound?
