Hi Mate, good job, I'm doing a turbo territory up myself, just a tip, make sure you change the inline turbo oil filter just in case you haven't already done it, make the oil presure drop and the oil light on, its a tiny little filter just before the oil pressure sensor.
awesome video man - i used to drive a RWD '06 territory and i love every second of it even though it was knackered. i took it everywhere when i got my P's before i bought a new car. cant wait to see how it continues!
Subbed, good on ya for doing it with your son, don't see enough of father son mechanics and to me as a kid that was some of my best memories of my father. Great video, well done
Aw bro I feel for you! I bought a 2006 Ford Territory GHIA Turbo august last year, the only problem listed was that it has a knock going over bumps in the front end, said that he thought it was the shocks and mounts, was cheap enough for just those so I thought I’d fly down to Sydney and pick it up and drive it home (6hr drive home) when I had it up on a mates hoist it needs 2x tyres, front diff bushes, steering rack, rear diff bushes, turbo (steel factory oil pipe filter clogged and has starved the turbo), had a front main leak, balancer was about to fall off. I’ve fixed all the oil leaks and fitted a new balancer, water pump, radiator hoses, drivebelt, tensioner and idler, front diff bushes I put superpro hybrids in so won’t have to do them again, new rack and rack ends, tie rod ends, put 2x new tyres on and in a couple weeks I’m about to fit SY2 front suspension as the lower ball joints are stuffed. Slowly but surely it’s getting there but it has been an expensive learning curve, I love the car lots it’s a very fun car and all but I wish I inspected it or had it inspected (arrived at 930pm at night so couldn’t see much when looking at it) Once the SY2 suspension is in, I get the rear differential bushes done and replace the turbo it’ll be so good but I love it still.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet but you’ll need to get the car engineered or recompiled if you put 7 seats in a 5 seater car. Same if you take the two extra seats out of a 7 seater to make more room. You can get done for it in most states and territories so just look into it mate.
mate you can buy the territory as a 7 seater or a 5 seater they all have the mount spot for the extra seat and belts because of this you can put the extra seat in the back no engineering needed because it was a factory option i should know as i have had both cheers
@@glennarnold3970might be different for Vic or Qld but you can fit 7 seats in a car in NSW if is stays 5 seater on the vin plate and rego papers thats what the police and mechanic require for to pass a greenslip/rego check. you need to blue slip/engineer it to keep the paperwork up to date with the cars current form or you leave yourself open to defect notice from police or not being able pass 12 month rego checks to rerego your car over here its a headache.

great job of bringing it back to life. Looks like it'll turn into such a cool suv. I hope one day to do projects like this with my boy. Good luck and keep up the good work!
These are so cool. I was lucky enough to buy one for my partner when she was a nanny to four kids. She hated the fuel economy but we loved the 5,500 km road trip from Christchurch to Cape Reinga, coromandel and back to Christchurch last summer. Also, we were camping in the back of it but the double mattress didn't really fit.
Farrrk that was a lot of work, I would have noped out as soon as seeing it in person. I’d be careful with the 7 seat conversion - if you do it without informing VicRoads and you have an accident, insurance likely won’t cover you, even if it’s a factory part. You may or may not need a separate roadworthy cert to get it all legit - best to ask them.
Yeah man 99% of people would have but not here, it’s like that with most of my projects , really didn’t take that long and was a good few weekends learning/ spending time with the boy , the seats are a direct bolt in , similar to the old VNs and EBs that would have a bolt in dickie seat it’s all factory
Buy the nolathane front diff bushes they are a two piece bush (people will hate on them but we have had ours in for 2 years no issues) took me about 4 hours to do, cut the old bush out and the nolathane slip in from the front and rear and the bolt pulls them together, if you can do the rear bushes you can do the front diff bushes
I did see a video of a guy doing that but I think he's put them in the wrong way, to do it property the whole thing has to come out, I had a whole heap of other stuff changed also, including drive shafts, engine mounts, and the syii conversion, thanks for your comment
Best upgrade you did was the SY2 suspension conversion. Super dangerous with the earlier design. You don't want to loose a front wheel on the highway lol
@@georgeauto It was weird, Despite there still being a hose connected to the turbo and wastegate, I was still experiencing what we thought was boost cut, LONG story short, it was oddly fuel cut and the car pulling the absolute timing out of itself to save itself. all sorted and tuned now at least :)
Do you know if it possible to get an ZF 6SP OEM reflash at a tuners shop ? I had my ZF box rebuilt (the box had not failed but I wanted it freshened up) by a Transmission Builder and they flashed it with their tune version and its not good. What a score! Yes I got a BF turbo ZF for 7500 And was wrapped with that , put over 70,000ks on it 280,000 all up and sold it for 13.500 , thanks for the comment
I’m not sure about the SZ version I don’t think I’ve seen it done before but I guess with the right setup I couldn’t see how it wouldn’t work , might be pricey though doing it properly and reliably
The rods on a silvertop Barra will break straight away with any decent boost. Green tops from mid BF onwards have strongers rods - at least as strong as the Turbo Redtop, and better higher compression to boot.
I feel ya man, all these little issues add up and cost time and money, and with Fords going up in prices market prices for parts are starting to go up. Unfortunately the young ones love to own these vehicles but they dont look after them or maintain them due to lack of funds. Bottom line, a message to all young men out there, dont buy a car you cant afford to maintain, you will destroy a legendary vehicle with your brokeness. I am doing up an BF XR6T ZF6 at the moment that was repo'd of a young man who couldn't make payments and it is a total mess, 16k in parts to date, but it will be a one of a kind, all carbon fibre interior trims and updates, yeah boy! Nice to see you looking after these iconic cars. Its kind of addictive the feels you get from restoring a nice FORD too, peace.
A lot off people don’t know if go to ford some parts where recalled & where free to replace & because my mother had 2004 Ford territory TX with duel fuel & had it for 7 years and gave it to a friend recently last year bought a rav4
Funny thing I was going to buy this for my mother seen it though nothing but a death trap I’m my opinion it wasn’t even worth what he was asking for it he was better off selling parting it out good on ya George at least we know this is going to get the love it needs can’t wait to see this finished will be a beautiful car
Wow no way , so the exact car ? Yeah I had no idea how bad it was till we looked closer , everything is fixable with the right amount of effort and money though
Not sure if it's actually a genuine TTG. I say this due to the front seat bolsters looking rather small and I'm 99% sure all TTG came out standard with 7 seats. ICC was also finished in piano black and had silver buttons. I owned one about 6 years ago and it was a great car.
The sticker on the car says engine T , the icc is wrong and the steering wheel too , should have a chunky one but has most of the ghia stuff I’m not 100 either
I think it can be done but not properly ( there is a guy on UA-cam that does it but he puts them in backwards , for what it worth with my family in the car I want it done 100% properly
I was going to buy this, the cluster has been swapped. It originally has well over 360xxx I was speaking to a bloke that brought it new in Victoria. I wasn't paying the 3k wanted.
@@georgeauto it was sold to a bloke on the north side of Brisbane, a sketchy bloke. On the plus side, the bloke that originally had it up, said the motor was rebuilt. Just shady about the cluster swap.
@@georgeauto Sure did mate! I first subscribed to you when you first got the VL, as i was building mine at the same time and needed inspiration from ya 🙌🏽💯👍🏽

Hey mate, which thinners did you use to get the spray paint off? Trying to get pray paint off my rims as well, but haven't found one that works. Seems like it's been on there for years, but has recently chipped off pretty easily driving on dirt roads.
I just used general purpose that I had laying around took off the spray paint but left the OG paint on there , id do a little test patch in a no so visible area first to see how it goes as it might take the OG paint off too
@@georgeauto any chance you have the product name? Tried a few thinners from Bunnings but none of them worked great. Thinking of paint stripper but not sure how it would react with the original powder coating underneath.
400LPH Fuel pump and 1000cc injectors with a front mount will give you round 400 wheel at 18psi on 98RON safe tune from my experience, if you have the ZF trans you can also tune its ecu to make mote torque just dont exceed bout 850NM or the trans will eat itself 😅
@georgeauto it should hold that but I would advise looking at getting a yellow terra flex plate for it as I ripped the flex plate bolts out of my stock one and had to upgrade the stock one is quite thin and just isnt made for all the torque.
I had to go a 7 seater...... I had a 09 VE SS cammed etc about 550hp at engine. It was a tough call, I tried like lots of 4wd's etc.... I did try the majority of territories but not a turbo one as they were too old......... ended up with a 2017 toyota kluger.... similar power to the v6 commodores etc. I'd seen them around the place and knew they weren't too bad speed wise around town. Don't reget my choice, I mean 7 seats and alot of power...... seems a lil dangerous, fine in a straight line but anything other then that....
sad to hear about the SS though its amazing the you made the sacrifice for the family first. im not gonna be going stupid with this thing its a brick though the air weighing nearly 2t its not that fast
@@georgeauto hows this I just had a B of a time pulling apart my kluger to change a rear wheel bearing (did some offroading over Christmas), the axle nut sucked balls to get off....... finally get it off etc. Take out the bearing (hub assembly).. and boom the new ones splines too big for the CV.... I got it off ebay was listed as the right part for my model and year..... FARK lol. Now I gotta put it back together for nothing. SUCKS SO BAD lol
Does a 7seat conversion need engineering. If so please do it. If you or your family are in an accident and something happens or if insurance don’t cover you that would be devastating
The seat and seat belts all bolt in , every territory has the mounting points , it’s very similar to the old dickie seats people would put in the back of their Holden and ford wagons , (my mum had a VN with one) I would 100% make sure it’s safe and I don’t see how it would needs engineers, all the engineer would do it make sure the bolts are done up properly , thanks for your concern though
Could you renovate one house to make bigger while living in the other, then rent out the other which csn give you better tax write offs and more future investments?
Haha i reckon i would have been shopping around the same time 😂 the ghia turbo market is fucked i ended up going a new Hyundai family car due to the over priced market. Even the over priced territorys were pretty average
@@georgeauto i didnt see it in person but i did inquire about it. Im in brisbane but that white one from the gold coast the sy2 i went and looked at there were a lot of unknowns with it for the price missing logbooks but they had a heap of receipts for random work done on the head suspect it might of been over heated at some point but was really clean. Also checked 2 black ones out in Melbourne
Just be careful with converting to a 7 seater. Your insurance may have issues with it being complied as a 5 seat in the event of an accident. Might be worth getting an engineer to look at it. Should be easy since it’s factory parts

And was wrapped with that , put over 70,000ks on it 280,000 all up and sold it for 13.500 , thanks for the comment
Love it I just bought a 2014 sz Barra 2wd do u think it would be hard to turbo like maybe a gf turbo set up on it
Fg
I’m not sure about the SZ version I don’t think I’ve seen it done before but I guess with the right setup I couldn’t see how it wouldn’t work , might be pricey though doing it properly and reliably
@@georgeauto yeah I was thinking that cheers bud love the channel
The rods on a silvertop Barra will break straight away with any decent boost. Green tops from mid BF onwards have strongers rods - at least as strong as the Turbo Redtop, and better higher compression to boot.
Fantastic video George, as always 👊🏻
Glad you enjoyed it thank you sir
Amazing mate thankyou when’s the car due to be finished
@@georgeauto finishing it when I get back to Perth in December this year.
Oh sweet a territory. There much to look out for on buying one? Been thinking of getting one to replace my au wagon.
Yeah there is a few things , diff bushes for sure, I’d say gearbox , I’m not a pro on these but check out the territory owners group on FB
5:07 this thing was neglected 😂
Yeah bad
you and your son saved that car mate and that's a good thing
Thank you ! Still a little bit of work to go but hopefully home stretch now
Well done. It went from unbelievably bad to a gem.
The front part you showed that part was replaced bye ford because it never had the recall parts put on it
ok thanks for that are you talking about the SYii upgrade I did ?
Yes baby, I can’t wait to drive it😌✌️
Love it mate can't wait for more eps !
More to come! Thanks for your comment
A lot off people don’t know if go to ford some parts where recalled & where free to replace & because my mother had 2004 Ford territory TX with duel fuel & had it for 7 years and gave it to a friend recently last year bought a rav4
thank you for that
Gonna be a clean family rig brother! Nothing makes me smile like this stuff
I hope so mate, thanks for your comment made me smile also
Love the content man, keep it up!
Thanks, will do! appreciate your comment
Spot on mate love you guys are bringing it back from the dead perfect family cruiser 😀👌
Thanks Jason ! Appreciate a positive comment
Great video mate
Thanks mate, appreciate the comment
Not sure if it's actually a genuine TTG. I say this due to the front seat bolsters looking rather small and I'm 99% sure all TTG came out standard with 7 seats. ICC was also finished in piano black and had silver buttons.
I owned one about 6 years ago and it was a great car.
The sticker on the car says engine T , the icc is wrong and the steering wheel too , should have a chunky one but has most of the ghia stuff I’m not 100 either
@@georgeauto 38589 is ttg model number
Awesome ! Good work mate congratulations on the baby to
Thank you so much 😀
Awesome video mate! Enjoy all your content. Should be a great car once completed. Good family car the Territory…. 👍🏽
Thanks Craig ! Hopefully we can enjoy some days out in this thing
Good effort mate , 1st time viewer but I'll be back. Also I think you're local to me as the places you went are right around me ha ha
Oh really amazing ! We have two houses at the moment on both sides of Melbourne
Great job bringing it back to life keep up the great work
Thanks for the comment D Rob! hopefully on the home stretch now
Front diff bushes are easy as can do it with diff in car just got to move it round
I think it can be done but not properly ( there is a guy on UA-cam that does it but he puts them in backwards , for what it worth with my family in the car I want it done 100% properly
KIa Carnival for $70k v Territory Ghia Turbo on the road for maybe $12k (assuming future work). That's a big saving
yeah completely different cars though, kia obviously brand new etc, 7 year warranty. Territory fuel guzzler, problems lol
I be worried about insurance with the extra seats you might not be covered
Yeah that could be an issue
I was going to buy this, the cluster has been swapped. It originally has well over 360xxx I was speaking to a bloke that brought it new in Victoria. I wasn't paying the 3k wanted.
oh shit haha , that's not good
@@georgeauto it was sold to a bloke on the north side of Brisbane, a sketchy bloke. On the plus side, the bloke that originally had it up, said the motor was rebuilt. Just shady about the cluster swap.
Reminds me of my VL when i first got it, lot of work but worth it
It is! and the quality time with the son is good too! did you check out my VL videos ?
@@georgeauto Sure did mate! I first subscribed to you when you first got the VL, as i was building mine at the same time and needed inspiration from ya 🙌🏽💯👍🏽
Bro I did exactly the same thing as you and even used Travis (One Stop) to sort all my RWC items. Mine is one the road but a work in progress just like yours.
awesome man ! Trav did a really good job super happy with it
Hey mate, which thinners did you use to get the spray paint off? Trying to get pray paint off my rims as well, but haven't found one that works. Seems like it's been on there for years, but has recently chipped off pretty easily driving on dirt roads.
I just used general purpose that I had laying around took off the spray paint but left the OG paint on there , id do a little test patch in a no so visible area first to see how it goes as it might take the OG paint off too
@@georgeauto any chance you have the product name? Tried a few thinners from Bunnings but none of them worked great. Thinking of paint stripper but not sure how it would react with the original powder coating underneath.
@@henrysevtsenko1601 pretty sure the one I used was "concept paint" brand from autObarn
@@georgeauto cheers George! I'll give it a go
400LPH Fuel pump and 1000cc injectors with a front mount will give you round 400 wheel at 18psi on 98RON safe tune from my experience, if you have the ZF trans you can also tune its ecu to make mote torque just dont exceed bout 850NM or the trans will eat itself 😅
amazing man that sounds sick, im pushing 500rwkw in my FG stock box still holding up touch wood
@georgeauto it should hold that but I would advise looking at getting a yellow terra flex plate for it as I ripped the flex plate bolts out of my stock one and had to upgrade the stock one is quite thin and just isnt made for all the torque.
Lucky the engine and trans seem to be ok, all the other stuff is just noise at the end of the day, no car is ever perfect like you said.
Yes seem ok so far ? I’ve driven it on road maybe 2 hours and feels good to drive
I’ve always low key wanted one of these things, awesome video mate as always 💪💪
Thanks mate, maybe one day get one to thrash around, maybe LS swap haha
Does a 7seat conversion need engineering. If so please do it. If you or your family are in an accident and something happens or if insurance don’t cover you that would be devastating
The seat and seat belts all bolt in , every territory has the mounting points , it’s very similar to the old dickie seats people would put in the back of their Holden and ford wagons , (my mum had a VN with one) I would 100% make sure it’s safe and I don’t see how it would needs engineers, all the engineer would do it make sure the bolts are done up properly , thanks for your concern though
Congrats on everything mate, amazing video btw, insane efforts! keep it up!
Thank you so much mate, I really appreciate it
My dad owned that fg you bought from new, till selling it in 2017. Can’t believe it’s in your hands haha
Oh no way be the silver one or the blue one ?
@@georgeauto silver man
Could you renovate one house to make bigger while living in the other, then rent out the other which csn give you better tax write offs and more future investments?
Yes great idea , I’m playing with the idea of maybe extending my place and putting a nice shed up as my backyard is huge
Great to watch, inspiring 🤙🏼
Thanks Jason
grate video George
Thank you so much
Haha i reckon i would have been shopping around the same time 😂 the ghia turbo market is fucked i ended up going a new Hyundai family car due to the over priced market. Even the over priced territorys were pretty average
Oh really did you see this one go up ? Guessing you’re one of the people that saved it ?
@@georgeauto i didnt see it in person but i did inquire about it. Im in brisbane but that white one from the gold coast the sy2 i went and looked at there were a lot of unknowns with it for the price missing logbooks but they had a heap of receipts for random work done on the head suspect it might of been over heated at some point but was really clean. Also checked 2 black ones out in Melbourne
Congratulations on the "baby" bro good luck with the project
Thank you so much mate !
Iv got a BA RTV tray for sale if your son is looking for a project that he can hold on to till he gets his license
Thankyou , I have another video where I bought him an XG ute for his 13th so he got a project already , thanks for the thought though
I am surprised the seller asked for a deposit for a cheap car like this. Good luck with the rebuild, mate!
with the amount of interest in it yes I had to
insane how they could try and sell such a dangerous vehicle with so many essentual things missing
Yeah I know man.. pretty sure the dude had no choice, a bit more honesty would have been good
Sad to see there are so many who Hate people to take advantage of them!
Not sure what that means
THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO
DID GREAT JOB OF REBUILD WAGON BACK TRUE BEAUTY
GOOD LUCK FURTHER IDEAL WITH WAGON
Thanks Robert, appreciate your comment mate
Just be careful with converting to a 7 seater. Your insurance may have issues with it being complied as a 5 seat in the event of an accident. Might be worth getting an engineer to look at it. Should be easy since it’s factory parts
Ok will keep that in mind thanks for that info
Awesome father and son project! It’s going to be a great family car
Thankyou yes exactly !
Great vid mate
Glad you enjoyed, thank you for your comment
thanks for the video man
No problem! thanks for your comment
Do the transmission cooler they break the gearbox
Ok thanks yes I’ll look into it
is jimmys middle name Recard?
Not sure what you mean by that no
You are a braver man than me buying that thing. Good luck with it.
