cool video different perspective on the vstrom, I have found where they really shine is on small bumpy back lanes with gravel etc.. I have firmed up the rebound and taken the compression damping softer in the front and found it great for the UK small country lanes.. I can imagine that on perfect smooth tarmac it is a little boring however as a back to back comparison with other bikes it is interesting, however where the Suzuki really shines is the value for money, nowhere else can you get so much bike for the money! great bike in my opinion! thanks for the video!
Hey man, thanks! Which tires do you have for that preferred riding style/environment? I can imagine that it does the job pretty well on these roads. Rushing through tight corners on small roads really did feel great! Cheers
Gareth Millar i put anakee 3's on mine. super for on road. blows the stock BW away. made it a different bike. have not tested them off road yet but for my riding style im glad i made the switch. +1 on the bang for the buck evaluation. folks on youtube and what not can do all the comparisons they want but when you factor price in, there is NO better machine 😁
thanks for the reply Alan.. I must say that the Anakee 3 have been high on my list.. I want tyres that will still clear dig gravel etc but also give great grip especially in wet conditions... how are they in the wet? I must say that I after a long period of sunny weather the rain came and the roads were incredibly greasy.. the stock BWs were sketchy to say the least. back tyre was hopping about over metal covers etc... I softened the rear rebound as I think I was pushing the rear tyre too much..
V strom all the way. Everything is proven 100% made in Japan quality. Bulletproof motor, supple ride, perfect ergonomics and a reputation for reliability. Honda looks great but big front wheel less good on the road, and tubed tyres massive disadvantage for road riders. The Suzuki is a gem, test ride one and see. This isn't just a "utility" bike, it's a genuine all rounder that can do absolutely anything.
suzuki s v strom are really a blast to ride........everything is fantastic on those bikes......i own three of them and buying a 2019 brand new now......
As a proud owner of a 2002 dl1000 with wide open GPR exhausts and 93 hp on the wheel after 14 years of ownership I can say bulletproof. I bought it for the engine after 13000 klm four times checked the valves and still near to the modern adv bikes. Motor is a diamond. 👌
I believe Africa-Twin more hard core in off road than V-Strom, V-Strom more suitable on Adventure/road (light off road), V-Strom more suitable for daily use bike.
Hey man thanks for the comment. Do you have any first hand experience on both motorcycles? I did not go ofroad with the Africa Twin, I wish I did :) Cheers!
I think these mirrors we see in VStrom are not original. The original mirrors are square and larger. Some people say they are ugly, but they are the best in motorbikes, because they allow a better vision behind the biker. This windshield is not original either. And it may be a problem in rainy days because the vision will be certainly impaired. VStrom is a wonderful bike for long trips. I love it.
The exhaust is an upgrade for sure, but I'd focus on actual performance/size/weight if I was going to do anything to the exhaust. I'd throw away the stock header system, with the powervalve (emissions restriction), pop in an Arrow header, matted with a Two Bros or some other pipe that's smaller diameter without being excessively loud.
It is because the Africa Twin has changed the exhaust (or maybe air filter as well!?), that makes the rev rise faster and looks like he keep using the higher rev on the A Twin
Hey man. Pff... I've already had a lot of discussions about this in other video's. I don't agree. 1: this is a typical strategy from the manufacturers the biggest chance they can, to have no issues within the warranty-period. 2: as long as the engine is hot it's not a big issue
Wow that wind screen is HUGE, i have a 2009 VStrom, with a smaller screen 😏. A friend got an Africa and on long finds it less confortable than his old V.
V-stroms are basic but very reliable riding machines. Trouble-free engine and clutch, comfortable seat, fair handling and stopping power... yes no fancy electronics, riding gizmos etc. But who cares. Own a 2019 vstrom 650 and love it.
Awesome! your riding the exact same bike i have but with Akra exhaust. Now i know how it would sound like. Did they put a euro3 exhaust on this bike, because until now, i didnt find any replacement for euro4. Nice to watch as always!
+Twil Hey! Yes I was thinking about that! What do you think of the akra? Is there a big difference with the stock exhaust you have and the sound in the video of the akra? I dont believe its euro4 :) but i'll check! Is it important for you that it is? Are you considering another exhaust?
It is a huge difference i think. The stock exhaust is way to stuffed and i think all the time i have to free that damn sound. I posted your video in a german VStrom forum and everyone is sure that´s a Euro 3 exhaust. So not that legal, but who cares.
nice Vid! Love the vstrom..I'm thinking about getting that bike because of the torque and tall gearing. I had a Yam FJ 09 and it was too high rpm all the time on highway and too much shifting in town..and a governor at 115mph..
ride a 2007 ninja 250 the 3rd gen also known as classic ninja's since it was for production from 1985-2007 then the new update came about. I like going fast don't get me wrong but I like going off-road even more which is alot safer fun. I mean I took my little ninja into some forest area on a bicycle trail and never had so much fun in my life going slow.
Nice! I want to go for an off-road trip myself one day, seems to be so much fun indeed, but I'm not going to do that on my mt-09 lol. Maybe I'll rent this or another adventure model and go for a off-road weekend-trip somewhere. Did you ever think about something like the 690 enduro? Or is that too much off-road style? :) If I would have the luxury of having multiple motorcycles at the same time, that would be perfect ;)
My dream is to have a sport touring bike and an off road mechine whcih kawasaki has already answered my prayers! I love their concourse 14 and their brand new versys -x300. Sorry for the late reply had to delete alot of replys to get to this one. :(
I own the old 2007 V-Strom 650 ABS. I once tried the AT in the garage changing my tyres, and I found it boring, although it was a nice well paved curvy road along the "Aff" river. I didn't feel the power gain compared to my 67bhp Suz'. And I disliked the DTC, only usable in sports mode. Now I'm sparing money to change my old owl for the DL1000, in standard version.
Hey, thanks for your comment! You are right about the DCT being fun only in the S3 mode. Everything else was a little boring and I would ride it in this mode only. Did you already test-ride the DL1000?
+Leonardo Curci i ride these motorcycles for the first time and to share my first impression. I have no experience riding a v stroom u are right. Nice machine though
+Twil Good idea i've done that in the past but didn't really capture high quality sound of the drive by. Have some ideas now. Will try this Next time! :)
dude... 0 - 60 mph test you are supposed to RED LINE it, which is 9,000 rpms you were barely hitting 7,500 rpms ?? WTF? that's not an honest proper zero to sixty run.
That screen just looks ugly and why do they put on a afthermarked exhaust that is as big as the originale one?! That Vstrom is a very nice bike to ride...
You are right it's fast. I've had plenty of comments already suggesting me to ride it in higher revs. I did take it in higher revs a couple of times (as you can see in this vid) but sure, I wasn't constantly pulling it in the near-red zone. I think it has more to do with the way this motorcycle made ME feel, and then specs are a whole different thing than true riding experience where exhaust sound, engine sound, behavior of suspension etc are all part of the 'speed sensation'. Anyway! Thanks for your comment, cheers man
You don’t know how to ride. You stay in first gear forever at quarter throttle then give a bit more throttle way out of powerband… short shift bad rider. You’re scared to give the bike throttle even with traction control on…..
The Vstrom has a poorly made Clutch basket that wears out ...Suzuki refuses to fix it ... I refuse to buy one. Suzuki has no innovation they just continually play catch up ...and always end up just making a late to the game boring bike. All other manufacturers have better electronics ...Common Zuk you can do better !
When do they wear out?I have a friend with one and he has 30000 mls on it and no problems yet with clutch!can he expect problem soon??my super ten has a rattle basket too but does no harm.
I have remaped my 2005 DL 1000 , black widow silencers, kn filter , velocity stacks and Dyna coils. Its much faster than Africa , bmw GS 1200 ans stock 900 Tracer. 1st gear power wheelie.

I have not had the bike that long so I am on the stock BW tyres still.. have you had any experience with any other tyres?

Gareth Millar they hook up great in the wet. again, a big improvment over the stock BW.

More comfortable, cheeper, more powerful...
Are the looks of the Africa Twin more exciting in your opinion?? 😂😊
Uhmm... Next question?! ;)
I think these mirrors we see in VStrom are not original. The original mirrors are square and larger. Thanks for the comment and insights! Cheers man
One nice feature on the new DL's is the one touch starter button, very convenient addition....
Did not know that until now! Any experience using this, does it work well?
(Akrapovic) Is so overrated though but good video on a good bike!!
Haha, thanks for your comment man. The arrow - two bros combi sounds pretty good to me :P
Would love to have seen some Highway speeds with this 1000 motor
So far as I could see you never ran the V-Strom over half rev's, but used everything the Africa Twin could deliver? How can you compare?
at 8:27 I do hit the 8000 rpm's where the peek of the power is being delivered (i believe). Cheers.
Paul Langford Vstrom power starts at 5-6 rpm
It is because the Africa Twin has changed the exhaust (or maybe air filter as well!?), that makes the rev rise faster and looks like he keep using the higher rev on the A Twin
The bike seems to be new. Only 172 kilometers.
In the first 1000 kilometers you should not drive with more then 4000 rotations per minute.
Hey man. Pff... I've already had a lot of discussions about this in other video's. I don't agree.
1: this is a typical strategy from the manufacturers the biggest chance they can, to have no issues within the warranty-period.
2: as long as the engine is hot it's not a big issue
Especially on new engines, Soon as it is warm, run it hard. This isn't the 80's.
Jow old is Africa Year Produktions ? Thdnks
Those European roads are wild - my sidewalk is wider I swear. ;)
Wow that wind screen is HUGE, i have a 2009 VStrom, with a smaller screen 😏. A friend got an Africa and on long finds it less confortable than his old V.
I really like my 07 vstrom. I like the v twin sound better than the parallel twin. Both are great bikes.
Hi, Is this a Full akra System on the vstrom? Or just the slip on?
Full system!
V-stroms are basic but very reliable riding machines. Trouble-free engine and clutch, comfortable seat, fair handling and stopping power... yes no fancy electronics, riding gizmos etc. But who cares. Own a 2019 vstrom 650 and love it.

Quality control on the Honda Africa Twin is not good. Recalls, stalling and starting problems among many others.

Really agree with the fact that the Honda is more exiting than this.. nice sound though!!
\m/ Ride in peace
+Hellishrider Thanks man! Yes it brought just a little bit more excitement I think!
This has less ground clearance and it's heavier so it's better for long distance but not so much off road which I want.
+Taijean Moodie what do you ride now?
+Taijean Moodie i see, makes sense! Cheers man
ride a 2007 ninja 250 the 3rd gen also known as classic ninja's since it was for production from 1985-2007 then the new update came about. he kerel welke is beter op langstermijn rijden de africa twin of the storm

No, But I'm planning to do so in the next future. I'm also sparing money and negociating hard with my wife to get the budget.
Good luck negotiating! Arguments like ‘i can ride/continue for YEARS with this motorcycle’ and ‘it has a very steady trade-in-value’ worked for me :)
Sorry I don't speak English very well but I have a question:What is better the Honda or the Suzuki?
+András Vrbovszki i liked the Honda better! More Exciting.
TheNiekoss thanks your reply and I also like better the Honda!
AT looks better true, anything else like build quality, wheels etc I prefer Suzuki.
You should learn how to ride this kind of bike, man.
Standard screen is better - you can see over it
Good to know! :)
no experience with a vstrom i can tell you now..... own vstroms for years that vtwin start moving after 5000 rpm
+Leonardo Curci i ride these motorcycles for the first time and to share my first impression. I have no experience riding a v stroom u are right. Nice machine though
Btw
Your videos are known for bikes with great sound
You could do some "drive by" cuts.
+Twil Good idea i've done that in the past but didn't really capture high quality sound of the drive by. Have some ideas now. Will try this Next time! :)

Sorry you lost connection on external mic, great insight and vlog, I'm testing a 2018 (on tarmac) soon and this was most informative.
That screen just looks ugly and why do they put on a afthermarked exhaust that is as big as the originale one?! That Vstrom is a very nice bike to ride...
that screen is fugly
+Jeff Ferguson it did catch some flies though 😂
that windscreen looks ridiculous
The old 2009 vstrom 1000 is the fastest adventure bike 0-100 in 3.ps:learn how to shift the vstrom with the right way.
You are right it's fast.
You don’t know how to ride. You stay in first gear forever at quarter throttle then give a bit more throttle way out of powerband… short shift bad rider. You’re scared to give the bike throttle even with traction control on…..

Front is so ugly.. And again Suzuki, why the dated moped handle bars??
Terrible inexperienced rider. Can’t shift smooth. Get a Honda trail 50 cc.
