Even with a Premiership win I still detect quite a bit of disenfranchisement amongst the Illawarra side of the ledger. I have to say I can understand why they feel that way. Commentators crapping on about 2010 being an all Sydney Grand Final and old timers still calling them as St George. (For the record I'm a supporter of neither)
Illawarra football died in 1999, There's no Steelers in those Dragons. It's St. George playing a few games a year at WIN Stadium and it's pathetic. I won't support anyone in the NRL until Illawarra comes back. Might be never but so be it.
Ben Hornby, Mark Gasnier, Dean Young, Jason Nightingale, Kyle Stanley and Morris counts as his Dad played for St.George back in the day. St.George for life
Exactly the Sydney centric mentality at it's best. Like the 2010 Grand Final they kept crapping on about it being an all Sydney Grand Final. Well I wager that the people of the Illawarra like to be regarded as part of Sydney about as much as us Novacastraians do. I'm not a supporter of either (I'm a Knights supporter) so I'm an outsider looking in
Hornby is a Steelers junior (Corrimal) and played for them in under 18's and 16's in the 1990's. Young is also an Illawarra junior (Dapto), though his dad play for St George as the Steelers weren't around in the 70's.
+Peter Kehoe The Steelers always struggled for Money Peter, did you know that some teams have higher salary caps than others based upon their financial viability, the Steelers were always on the lowest level, meaning we couldn't afford to keep our home grown talent.
Bloody glorious, puts a tear in my eye, a lump in the throat. #SteelersForeverDragonsNever Oh, and I forgot the key changes and the guitar solo! I wonder who recorded it?
@aleco1991 awsom i agree got love the memries this brings back go the st george illawarra dragons 2010 is our year this is my new ringtone lol go to vidtommp3 (search into google you will find it) and copy paste adress bar where it says and follow steps hope that helped :)
@easycure007 hahaha a laugh a day keeps the dr away. mate every thing i said are actual facts. if i said somethin dumb please tell me? and i possibly might have drank something but im not drunk now and i still stand by what i said.
You've already got a team "gonetolukins", the St George Illawarra Dragons. God I love the Red V. It's about time you all gave up this juvenile nostalgia with the Steelers. They're long dead and NEVER coming back. Wollongong has embraced the Dragons like a long lost son. I think it's time you guys grew up and did the same.
@TheFK93 the steelers are dead mate please tell me the difference from the 2010 dragons to the 1979 dragons. colours jersey still identicle logo the same the only thing is the have illawarra added to there name im cool with dragons playing 6 games in illawara and representing the ilawarra region but id like to see them carry the st george dragons history then the steelers. and dragons have had illawarra juniors since for ever if u look at the 79 team most r illawarra juniors
To this day I don't get the Steeler die-hards who refuse to accept the Dragons. The merger between our two clubs has been an unbelievable success. By the mid to late 1990s both our clubs were on the verge of financial oblivion. In 2010 we are the Minor Premiers and Premiers, have the largest membership base in Sydney, play out of two fantastic stadiums which are both being upgraded and boast one of the best back offices in the League. We are an economic and footballing success. Unite us please.
......seasons away from financial oblivion by 1998. If they didn't merge and for some reason weren't cut by the NRL they would have bled to death anyway. St George saved League on the south coast. I used to be a St George fan and now I'm a St George Illawarra fan. If the Steelers logo had been used I'd be a Steelers fan. Illawarra provides the juniors, Saints provide the cash. What's wrong with that? It's been a bloody good merge. Follow OUR team or PISS OFF. And please, please, stop making.....
"There are moves taking place to return the Illawarra Steelers back to the Highest level of Rugby League." You dream my friend, you dream. I don't suppose you'd like to share in detail the specific plans to bring back the Steelers that you've alluded to. My reckoning is that no, you can't, because there are no plans. There never have been plans and there never will be plans. Such things are simply a figment of your imagination, a fantasy so desperate that it borders on the pathetic. Get a life.
i think illawarra steelers should throw away there history and let the st george illawarra dragons take the old st george history and scrap any steelers crap because i want the reocrd books to the dragons have 16 premierships. not 1 premiership the steelers have no history. but dragons can still play in wollongong.
10 years since this was posted, the lyrics have been added in the description and in closed captions.
Bring back the song
Bring back the illawarra steelers and get the dragon to piss off as they have no players in the team

it's good to hear the old nrl theme songs
And when you listen to them doesn’t make you think you want them back in the nrl?
new facebook site dedicated to the memory and history to the Illawarra Steelers..search 'illawarra steelers memorabilia'
@mystash1 They never left. In fact they won their first Premiership last year.
That's the 1987 one. The 1998 one is almost impossible to find, i've been looking for one for a while
After a steelers jersey 1998 will pay BIG money for it
Bring the Scarlet T permanently to Wollongong, keep Red V at Jubilee..
That is how Stgi should roll
I'm looking for an illawarra steelers jersey 1998 one do use know where I can get one I've been looking for a long time now
LOL - youse got the socks in St Merge. Up Up
Well there is an Illawarra team in there now
it's sad what they did to all the clubs it really suxs they did that
@aleco1991 awsom i agree got love the memries this brings back
go the st george illawarra dragons 2010 is our year
this is my new ringtone lol
go to vidtommp3 (search into google you will find it) and copy paste adress bar where it says and follow steps hope that helped :)
@deansdoodle yer but they got no players need players b4 anything else.
Couldn't we trade the crap where tired to ,and start again with the Steelers...the st George leagues club must be worth a Bob or two..
I'm from Victoria so i'm a little in the dark here... why did league get rid of all the foundation clubs?
Money.
as a "pom" cant quite understand "you can't go wrong with a ???????? gonna give them the taste of steel"
Lucas aye I can hear it now, cheers
Can't go wrong with men so strong I always thought
It says you can't go wrong a men so strong, gonna give them the taste of steel.
