Thank you Cortney for posting this. BTW, any teacher that does assign this cares for you and democracy! This is a MUST read for all people in democratic societies. It shows the absolute importance of education in order to keep from being controlled by governments. You need to vote and watch all the time before it's too late and you have no control, ie: the dogs, propaganda, etc. So, you should thank your teachers ;)

Thank goodness for your comment. It was getting depressing reading everyone else's dopey comments, on how they "hate reading" or are bored by this book. This has to be one of the easiest reads (for a political novel), as well as one of the most important books ever written...Scary to think these people are going to be voters one day.

Especially when our country is going through an era of information wars...Orwell's other book, "1984" is all about the masses being dumbed down through vapid TV shows and movies. They are encouraged to consume constant entertainment, so they won't notice the totalitarian government that has taken over. Language is debased, history books are changed to fit a political agenda, and newspapers are infiltrated by gov't agents. Sound familiar? These books are here to warn us.
