戯作者の滝沢馬琴は、二百年ほど前に夏の京都を訪れた。その京の見聞記が『羈旅漫録』だけれど、その中で馬琴は京師の評として「京のよきもの三つ、女子、加茂川の水、寺社」を挙げている。はんなりとした情緒の京美人は、江戸っ子の馬琴には奥ゆかしく見えたのかも知れない。
馬琴の挙げた寺社は大伽藍の神社仏閣だけでなく、それと連続した京の街並みをも示しているように思われる。翻って考えれば、もし京都の街並みがすべてビル化してしまったら、もはや京都を訪れる人はいなくなるのではないだろうか。黒い瓦の波と、鰻の寝床と称される奥行きの深い町屋造り、紅殻格子の並んだ路地、嵯峨野や竹林の持つふしぎな明るさ、白川のせせらぎと古格な石畳、夏の強い照り付けに生ずる陰の持つ静けさ、それらが京の美の諧調を構成しているように思える。そして、それらをみごとに捉えた映像のようにも思われる。UP主さんに感謝。
