When Moses came down from the mountain with the ten commandments and saw they had made a golden calf to worship, the punishment was for the tribe of Levi to go into each of the tents and kill a brother or a friend and they killed 3,000 of their own tribe that day. Talk about honoring the command to not kill, and then ask them to kill, so crazy.

Teaching religion to children should certainly be considered as child abuse. Teaching them to pray to or worship a non-existent whatever must be a serious crime, a felony. As children, they should be taught only science. Once they become adults, they can study a religion or many religions if they want to and can also decide to follow one or many, whatever it may mean, if they want to.

The so-called 8th commandment is qualified by what ‘property’ is, but there are verses allowing the poor to ‘steal’ so they don’t starve. Leviticus 19:9/10 “ And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. And you shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather every grape of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and stranger; I am the Lord your God.”
My faith started to fade away when I saw the film Stoning Soraya M. The graphic and cruel nature of this made me rally consider this act of violence and to think that if god is real and sanctioned this, then I would not wish to have anything to do with him or his commands.
Of course! As Dan Barker has repeatedly pointed out, the primitive minds of humans thousands of years ago, created gods in their own image. This included not just a 'physical' image but also reflecting a magnified and exaggerated assemblage of such childish needs and traits, egoism, sexism, inflexibility and the moral inadequacies of the prevalent human mind ... in spades!
This will take some practice, but I see the potential for a good thing here. It's important for the side of reason and law to do public outreach. I subscribed.
I just saw the lady's discussion with Oprah in a tv show way back in the 80s I guess. Although the audience tried to block her responses to what the bible really says, she still made really good points... ❤ Good points in this video too 👍👍👍
I maintain that is still possible that there is some form of creator whether it's conscious and aware or not. It would seem that this entity is both good and evil and doesn't care about life here on earth. It's also apparent to me that the existence or non-existence of a creator has no bearing on whether or not we will be aware of an afterlife of any sort if an afterlife is possible or exists.
At 5:50, they raise a good point. I recall speaking with someone about how when God is very annoyed with someone he tells his Earthly follower to go stone that bad person. Strange as if God is pissed with me, why does he not just send down a bolt of lighting and do me him self.
FFRF -- please consider producing a feature-length dramatic film based on the incidents in the life of Vashti McCollum, subject of the Peabody Award-winning documentary The Lord is Not on Trial Here Today. her courageous efforts led to such an important SCOTUS decision, and she persevered in the face of a torrent of hatred, threats and ostracism, along with her supportive husband and three sons. it is an inspiring story and would make "good copy," besides. according to TopDocumentaryFilms.com: "The case is little-known by the contemporary American public, yet the McCollum decision continues to have important ramifications for current conflicts over the role of religion in public institutions - from displays of the Ten Commandments in government buildings to student-led prayers at public school graduation ceremonies." i can't think of anything that would be more timely. besides, we atheists need a film worth watching, in addition to The Man From Earth, e.g.

So they caught someone picking up sticks (working) on the sabbath and after speaking with Moses (and god?) determined he had to die so they stoned him to death. At which point god said, "Ah ha! I tricked you. It's still the sabbath and stoning someone to death is considered work, so now you all shall die as well. Hahahahahaha!". Does anyone else feel that the bible was written by people who were not even remotely smart?

Curious, would you make a distinction between Public Property like a City or County Park vs Government Property like Court Houses and other Govt Building. One could argue that Parks (as an example) represent the people's space, where are govt property represents the Govt. If Public Parks are consider a reflection of the people distinct from the Govt, then religion should be allow on Public Property. However, it would have to reflect all of the Public. Within reason, Hindu and Buddhist should also be allowed to erect public monuments as well as Atheist ed monuments.
But Jason, who doesn't? The prevalence of fear, superstition, and denial of one's own mortality (fear of death) are almost universal to most humans at some point in their 'development' .

Shows like this contribute to keeping one's critical thinking and reasoning skills ever sharp and are part of the resistance to the scourge of religion and its deleterious effects on society, so keep up the good work folks!
I have always admired dan barker, and thank him for exposing religious frauds, the old saying, 'it takes one to know one is paramount here because dan used to be a fraud preacher..
And did you know that the Ten Commandments was given twice Moses gets pissed off the first time according to the story he takes his tablet and he throws them on the ground the ground splits up and swallow those who will not stand with it he goes back up for another 40 Days comes back and if you notice 6 of those Commandments are not the same. This is why I became an agnostic
I love number 10. Translated into basic English, it says "Keep yer cottin pickin hands off your neighbors wife, and don't touch his ass either"! PERFECT!!
Zeus is gonna be so pissed off when he hears about this video ... :) lol
lol
When I listen to this podcast, I actually have more faith in mankind. You can be an atheist, agnostic or a believer and still glean spiritual, ethical and educational information from these podcasts.
I can remember seeing these guys on the oprah winfrey show. They did well giving the crowd was full of religious people.
Yeah, we (the Netherlands) have no blasphemy laws anymore either. And before that, they weren't practiced anymore.
Thank you, really enjoying this, Keep up the good work!
Finally a good and decent channel on UA-cam. This kind of program really shows and depicts the foolish and childish forgeries, fakes and nonsensical stupid things written in that awful book.
The so-called 8th commandment is qualified by what ‘property’ is, but there are verses allowing the poor to ‘steal’ so they don’t starve.
Leviticus 19:9/10
“ And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest.
Good points in this video too 👍👍👍
How do I find the title of the video?
Wish we had something like this in the uk ! I too are a born again atheist seen the logic, reason and the science!
Eva Lution 😁 Welcome! You could consider joining the National Secular Society. Continue to think for yourself and enjoy life😆
There are enough fools already in the UK now!
Apologies, but listening to Annie saying"Jesus Christ!" in that sweet, prim voice just cracks me up!
me too😊😊
I maintain that is still possible that there is some form of creator whether it's conscious and aware or not. It would seem that this entity is both good and evil and doesn't care about life here on earth. It's also apparent to me that the existence or non-existence of a creator has no bearing on whether or not we will be aware of an afterlife of any sort if an afterlife is possible or exists.
Thanks so much for all your work. Hope to meet you good folks soon. You know. Before the end of times.
Wouldn’t stoning someone to death for picking up sticks on the Sabbath, be considered doing work?
At 5:50, they raise a good point. I recall speaking with someone about how when God is very annoyed with someone he tells his Earthly follower to go stone that bad person. Strange as if God is pissed with me, why does he not just send down a bolt of lighting and do me him self.
excellent and logical video. Thank you.
Blasphemy is one of my fave past times, too!
FFRF -- please consider producing a feature-length dramatic film based on the incidents in the life of Vashti McCollum, subject of the Peabody Award-winning documentary The Lord is Not on Trial Here Today. her courageous efforts led to such an important SCOTUS decision, and she persevered in the face of a torrent of hatred, threats and ostracism, along with her supportive husband and three sons. it is an inspiring story and would make "good copy," besides.
according to TopDocumentaryFilms.com: "The case is little-known by the contemporary American public, yet the McCollum decision continues to have important ramifications for current conflicts over the role of religion in public institutions - from displays of the Ten Commandments in government buildings to student-led prayers at public school graduation ceremonies."
i can't think of anything that would be more timely. besides, we atheists need a film worth watching, in addition to The Man From Earth, e.g.
My problem with the Commandments is the fact that only 3 deal with actual people. The rest are just ego stroking of a tyrant with super powers😂
No one can wander in the desert for 40 days without food or water and live to tell the tale.
... except in fantasy tales, ... i.e. the medium by which religions elicit their 'believers'.
Depends how many cartons of beer you take with you.
Im rolling the thought over of suing the church for years of mental tourment and stress. It has more than likely caused me physical harm to my body and mind do to increaed stress levels .
George Carlin does a great ten commandments skit.
You're god damn right he does.😁
Yes he did!
@@mareowainaina9168 People, you got to see Carlin's take on the 10 commandments. Absolutely stellar.
What I like love about ffrf ... they’re after justice, peace ✌🏻
The Bible has more holes than Swiss cheese.
well for one thing incest is not forbidden
The Barkers have to be the cutest couple I have ever seen. Fuck Brangelina, (I mean not really, they are fine ppl) but seriously, CUTEST couple ever.
Lets make 21st century smart guidelines for the freethinkers, superior to the 10 commandments.
"Born Again Atheist." I like that.
Great organization doing great work however I would like to see more minority involved in your program, I hope to join your organization soon thanks 🙏🏿 👏🏾👏🏾
How does one account for and deal with guilt?
Although I didn't grow up going to church, I do have family members who are members of a church.
But Jason, who doesn't? The prevalence of fear, superstition, and denial of one's own mortality (fear of death) are almost universal to most humans at some point in their 'development' .
Good to see you doing this.
I would like to recommend everyone support FFRF using "Amazon Smile" with almost every Amazon purchase some goes directly to FFRF, easy to set up and it happens Automatically.
45von Yes! My Amazon Smile donations have been going to FFRF for a couple of years I think.
Reading the bible(in particular, the old testament) will turn you into an atheist or at least an agnostic😊trust me.
Love the line 'I found the light'...😃
Christopher Hitchens is smiling... carry on....
Excellent show
I'm a believer....that will never change....separation of church and state is fine with me....im separate from the state. I don't recognize the government as having any authority over me.
This is Sooo refreshing, and entertaining.
Those were "condements", by the way.
This God is a megalomaniac. The first 3 commandments are all about ME, ME, ME. This has got to be the most self-centered control freak deity that was ever dreamed up.
May the Lord of truth and wisdom protect you
Thou shalt not rape anyone.
Thou shalt not own another human being--for any amount of time.
Thou shalt not not impinge on the right to the freedom of religion and thought.
Thou shalt not treat women as unequal to men.
I`m proud to belong to FFRF.
Me too!
Lets also take into account there are more than ten commands from god in the exodus passage. Also the fact that the commandments differ in the Catholic and Protestant traditions.
