- Millions of people across the United States witnessed the spectacular total solar eclipse on Monday, but many experts are now warning about potential eye damage.
Eye health was a major concern during the event, with doctors emphasizing the importance of using proper protective glasses and using them correctly.
Global's Katherine Ward explains that people are now being urged to be aware of any vision changes post-eclipse.

These people are holding humanity back
@@jimmypeeps8471That is 💯% incoherent.
Shhhhh take your medicine & let Big Brother tuck you in 😂
I caught it out of the corner of my eye by accident, very briefy. Even just a few seconds of not looking directly at it definitely gave me some concerning 'burn-in' of my peripheral vision for a few days. Any time I would blink, that corner of my eyesight was blank or like I had just looked at a camera flash.
Can't imagine looking directly at it with how incredibly bright it was. I used my hands to create pinhole shadows on the ground to see what stage it was in, then used the face camera on my phone to look at it, since I didn't have eclipse glasses.
My eyes! The goggles do NOTHING!
Why is that doctor in front of a green screen?
They always use Green screens , watch a Trudeau video ...
He probably isn't, it's VERY common with modern graphics cards, even basic ones, to do that effect without a greenscreen now. It's part of Nvidia's RTX lines which have been out for a number of years already. They can edit the background into whatever you want, and tons of people use it all the time. I use it for privacy reasons. Maybe this guy was sitting in his kitchen at home before he left for work, who knows. It's a silly reason to be skeptical these days.
That's not eye damage. the prices you're seeing at the grocery store is real.
How bout the slit lamp test they do at the eye doctor? I just had one done this week and it was the brightest light I've ever seen directly in my eye. I'm pretty sure it damaged seared my eye. I am beyond pissed and upset about these insane doctors doing tests like that without explaining the intensity of it. After dilated eyes they do this. It's disturbing, never take that test unless you are sure something is lodged in your eye, it will hurt your retina. Don't trust what they tell you, my eye may be damaged for life.
I stared at it and now 1980s laser effects shoot out of my eyes when I look through binoculars. Probably coincidence though
You must recreate this for science!
Just wait until your flight ability and bulletproof skin kicks in. It's pretty amazing!
If looking at the sun is something that you are not supposed to do in the 1st place, then why do people think that it is ok to look directly at the sun just once? 😂🤣🤡 So dumb! 🤪
Looking at the sun is fine. It depends on what time of day and for how long you look at it. Its common sense really. If you look at the sun midday and it hurts your eyes then look away. I look at the sun early in the morning or later at night and sometimes I take a peak during the afternoon ..lol. All good
so you never seen a sunset?
Mf do you not know how eclipses work
@@Naturexl😂 Anyone who starts a sentence with mf is my kinda people lol
Don't stare directly at the sun ground breaking I know.
Amazingly, some people don't know/don't believe that UV light can harm the eyes.
Yea I did this grade 7 over 30 years ago in wpg, and got a solar burn for life, like a small hole of tv static, barely noticeable unless I close the good eye and focus on it, kids touch a hot stove only once lol
THEY HAD 1 RULE

In the words of Gene Wilder, "You LOSE! YOU win NOTHING!!"
We need the eclipse vaccine
this......... is just... the start////
uh oh
it's called the diamond ring effect sheepie
Covid showed us how some folks just do whatever they please regardless. I think they like the challenge and if I they do permanent damage they got it doing what they love to do by not following simple instructions. C'est la vie.
safe and effective glasses they said
Who is "they"? It was widely reported that some of those glasses were being sold by scammers. How about do your due diligence and not blame legitimate warnings about faulty products?
@@EVIL-C i was given one of the scammer glasses but didnt use it. I looked at the eclipse when it was in totality eclipse (NASA says its ok to look at it with the naked eye during this phase). My mistake was underestimating the speed at which the totality occurred, i looked down for a few seconds and looked up again and the eclipse was starting to show the sun, so i looked at it for 1-2 seconds.
@@EVIL-C good question , who are "They" 🤔.... glad you agree
How come i can look straight at the sun when it's full. Yes it's bright but i can still see fine but an eclipse somehow damages your eyes.
Your eyes constrict when viewing bright lights to let less light in and preserve the retinal cells. When you are viewing the eclipse, the sun will be considerably dimmer so your eyes will dilate to let more light in. However, UV light is still hitting your eyes so once your eyes dilate, your eyes will let in more UV causing unbelievably large amounts of damage. It's pretty much like staring at 1000 cat lasers at once without you knowing.
when it gets dark outside your pupils expand, making them much more sensitive to light sources especially those as bright as the sun
@@hybridhealthofficial You know what stops you from looking too long at bright objects in that situation? Exactly what you just described, you would look away quicker if it was actually causing any damage. You basically just proved the OP's suspicion. It makes NO SENSE why they would add all these warnings.....
@@hybridhealthofficial You know why people who were stuck in caves for 30 days or more have to have their eyes exposed a little at a time to light? Now combine THAT information with what your claiming. It's contradicting.
Yes........I would like to see the science on that haha........good point.
Sun gazers everywhere are laughing their butts off ....
Chinese glasses
😂😂😂😂.
Nothing compared to psychological damage done by state media.
And yet Faux news, or any far right media is totally fine, safe, and 100% honest, right? Pathetic.
I'd say most of that brain rot these days isn't from mass media, but from blatant misinformation bots and intentional grifters who make millions off of rage baiting gullible idiots with clearly fake bullsh!t due to antagonistic algorithms and negativity fueling the most engagement, but sure. State media. 🤡
If you think Chrystia Freeland looks good today....you just MIGHT have some eye damage.😎
...and I'd check for brain damage while you're at it.🤣
well shes a liberal
You can listen to the news or the doctors but sun gazing is a thing.
A little research is also good for the mind.
Yeah, and sun gazers wear protective eyewear. There's a reason PPE exists, be it helmets, a pair of gloves, a welders mask, to body armour. It WORKS.
1) green screen.
2) Medical office background.
3) green suit from Walmart.
= "Ex$pert"
No one noticed.
So you're implying they're lying? Stare at the sun for 10 minutes and if you don't go blind I'll believe you 😂😂
What a load of rubbish 😂😂😂
You dont believe the sun can cause damage?
@@WishMFWOULD😂😂😂
Fake consumer products are a thing. Think twice the next time you order some phony supplements from Telegram, or anything being hawked by chump. 😉
I couldn’t believe all the parents with small children in Mazatlan Mexico who were Not wearing any glasses and staring at the sun! I felt sad for these children who likely will suffer eye damage along with their naive and possibly” poor” parents ! 🥲
I worry I ruined it a little for my kids because they were quite afraid after the constant warnings I gave them. I can't fathom doing the opposite and just not saying anything at all.
@@justinb2824 you did the right thing! 😁
