I remember the shiver of delight as the fugue launched into its cheeky sinuous dance, with voices of all types & registers joining in or interrupting rudely,to be tossed away for another confidential whisper; the music enjoying itself, chuckling under Cherkassky's fingers. Two of the hands applauding there are mine!
This is a stunning performance, especially given it's live. The Fantasia is a little slow for my taste (but still beautifully played) but the Fugue is astonishing - the way Cherkassky controls the various voices and brings out the melodic lines is absolutely masterful.
